#1. Charlotte Mecklenburg: Creationism and Evolution
Dear Yair;
I read through Charlotte Mecklenburg's comments on Genesis 1: 1 - 2. My
translation of the Hebrew is, In the beginning, out of nothing, created he, the
Elohim, heaven and earth. And the earth became void and formless. As for how
long it took, a yom can be a 24 hour day, or it can be a long period of time.
Consult Dr. Strong and you will find a definition which takes up most of a
column, the length of a page.

#1. Charlotte Mecklenburg: Creationism and Evolution
In response to Charlotte Mecklenburg's questions on timing conflicts and
translations in the first chapter of Genesis, may I suggest that she (and
others) secure a copy of Gerald L. Schroeder's 1990 seminal book: "Genesis and
the Big Bang. The Discovery of Harmony Between Modern Science and the Bible."
This 200-page paperback can be purchased on Amazon for about $11.00, or checked
out from larger library?s. I?ve read the book and appreciate the excellent
physical and metaphysical insights that Dr. Schroeder, a physicist and Hebrew
scholar, brings to this important subject. Schroeder lives and teaches in
Jerusalem at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Following is a summary of the
book I copied from one of the Internet sites.
In this groundbreaking book, physicist Gerald Schroeder takes on skeptics from
both sides of the cosmological / theological debate, arguing that science and
the Bible are not at odds concerning the origin of the universe and of life.
They are two views of one reality from two vastly different perspectives.
The culmination of a physicist's thirty-five-year journey from MIT to Jerusalem,
Genesis and the Big Bang presents a compelling argument that the events of the
billions of years that cosmologists say followed the Big Bang and those of the
first six days described in Genesis are, in fact, one in the same - identical
realities described in vastly different terms. In engaging, accessible language,
Dr. Schroeder reconciles the observable facts of science with the very essence
of Western Religion: the biblical account of Creation.
Carefully reviewing and interpreting accepted scientific principles, analogous
passages of Scripture, and biblical scholarship, Dr. Schroeder arrives at a
conclusion so lucid that one wonders why it has taken this long in coming. The
result for the reader - whether believer or skeptic, Jewish or Christian - is a
totally fresh understanding of the key events in the life of the universe.

#1. Charlotte Mecklenburg: Creationism and Evolution
Dear Yair,
I noticed that you put in the title: Creationism and Evolution. That is a
mistake, as both are "isms", that is, philosophical beliefs. You should state
"Creationism and Evolutionism".
There is one Bible verse that eliminates this option of long ages of creation
before making the earth fit for life: Exodux 20:11, which states that
everything in heaven and earth was made in 6 days.
The claimed ages such as radioactive dating supposedly give are a farce, perhaps
a test to see if we will really believe the Bible. Just so you know I am not
lightly speaking from ignorance, I studied for 6 years in secular universities
where my coursework included undergraduate and post-graduate geology courses.
Thomas Gray.
