3. Ancient Huns in East Germany were Germanic and Sarmatian?
Extracts from Recent Letters on Germanic-L

The latest issue of Arch olgie in Deutschland has an interesting face reconstruction of an artificially elongated skull found at Ketzin in Brandenburg (near Berlin). The artificially deformed skull of Ketzin is the only example from Brandenburg and the northern-most example of all skull deformations.
Interestingly, older literature state that the skull was probably that of a 'mongolic' women, i.e. of somebody belonging originally to the Hunnic tribes. However, the new face reconstruction revealed that she was of European appearance. In other words, she was in all likelihood Germanic.
The woman of Ketzin was buried with East Germanic/Danubian grave goods. Grave goods of a distinct Eastern origin have also come to light in neighboring sites like Waltersdorf (Dahme-Spreewald) , Gross Machnow (Teltow) and Kiekebusch (Spreewald).
It is not known who these people were, but they seemed to disappear in the middle of the 6th century, when the Franks resettled many of them west of the Elbe.
 Dirk

The Hunnic skulls shows that only about 5% of them have obvious marks of East Asian origins. Most of them are European. So if there is a deformed skull with European appearance, it can easily be Hunnish.
The Sarmatian (Alanic) tribes became vassals of the Huns and captured northern territories. Sulimirski have shown as early as the 70's that Sarmatian place names are present as far as the Elbe. And indeed, the newest theories state that some Slavic nations formed under Sarmatian (Alanian) leadership, namely the Croatians, Serbs and probably the Polish. Thus, the Sorbs at the Elbe (the "northern Serbs") are an obvious proof, that Sarmatians were present in the area in the early Middle Ages.
And they did practice skull deformation as well.
