Amos 9:5-9 The Lord, the LORD Almighty, he who touches the earth and it
melts, and all who live in it mourn the whole land rises like the Nile, then
sinks likke the river of Egypt he who builds his lofty palace in the heavens and
sets its foundation on the earth, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours
them out over the face of the land the LORD is his name.
7 'Are not you Israelites the same to me as the Cushites?' declares the LORD.
'Did I not bring Israel up from Egypt, the Philistines from Caphtor and the
Arameans from Kir?
8 'Surely the eyes of the Sovereign LORD are on the sinful kingdom. I will
destroy it from the face of the earth yet I will not totally destroy the house
of Jacob,' declares the LORD.
(When the Lord declares who he is, most likely it also introduces the subject he
is going to deal with. I see him trying to identify who his people are. In his
eyes there are only two kingdoms, the sinful one and the one that is his. my
comment)
[bold] 9 'For I will give the command, and I will shake the house of Israel
among all the nations as grain is shaken in a sieve, and not a pebble will reach
the ground. [/bold] (As one shakes sand in a sieve, And not a pebble falls
to the ground.) JPS
Ezek. 11:16 'Therefore say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Although I
sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet
for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries where they
have gone.'
17 'Therefore say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will gather you from
the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered,
and I will give you back the land of Israel again.'
Dear Yair and Brit-am readers,
When I read what John Salverda had written about Joshua conquering the land and
especially his last item,
"Bellerophon and Joshua; the Conquest Left Incomplete" by John R. Salverda
http://www.britam.org/salverda/belerophoncaria.html
it brought again to my mind the verses I printed just above and especially the
one in bold [Amos 9:8]. For a long time I wondered what it meant that God's
nation would be shaken and not a grain/pebble would reach the ground. Gradually
over time it has come to me this way. When Elijah thought he was the only
righteous person left in the land, God told him, 'No there are 7000 who have not
bent their knee to Baal.'
If it was like that when Elijah lived then when the Lord decided to scatter the
northern kingdom would not there have been also at least 7000 that had not bent
their knee to Baal, but they were taken out with the rest. Of course we know the
same happened to Judah and a remnant of them returned to the land after 70
years.
Therefore, God can say in verse 8 that he will not totally destroy Jacob. The
pebble not reaching the ground can't mean that these pebbles were not among the
nations, it is just that in God's eyes he sees the heart that still is connected
to him and that he will keep watch over that person and at the proper time he
will gather them or their descendants as Ezekiel stated .
Gathering them into one nation again is the purpose and goal that God has. So I
am inclined to agree that by blood line we cannot sort this thing out entirely.
There may be a little correlation in that God promises to being the descendants
of those people back to his land per the Ezekiel verses.
What would interest me a lot would be to see an analysis of the DNA or mtDNA of
all those who have some premonition that they may be a descendant of one or some
of those ancient people from Israel and they love the land and the people and
they love God and want to see him have his land back and his people back. Would
we see some kind of pattern' Or would there be diversity as the rest of the
world with equal percentages'
If we found that a bulk of the DNA were of several haplo-groups with a smaller
amount of other varieties, it would appear that we have a similar pattern of
what came out of Egypt and was picked up along the way and also when they came
into the land. It would be interesting.

2. DNA Again
Disproven'
Don't it make my blue eyes green'
The article below from which we reproduce extracts claims that everyone with
blue eyes descended from a common ancestor. They base this deduction on a DNA
marker. We thing this is wrong and that the phenomena of blue eyes sprang up in
several areas and that there is no ancestral connection (other than that of Adam
the First man) between the parties.
Nevertheless if the DNA marker exists and if it really does determine blue-eyes
then this would mean that the DNA marker also spontaneously issued forth in
different areas without the intermediary of hereditary factors.
One Common Ancestor Behind Blue Eyes

People with blue eyes have a single, common ancestor, according to new research.
A team of scientists has tracked down a genetic mutation that leads to blue
eyes. The mutation occurred between 6,000 and 10,000 years ago. Before then,
there were no blue eyes.
"Originally, we all had brown eyes," said Hans Eiberg from the Department of
Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Copenhagen.
The mutation affected the so-called OCA2 gene, which is involved in the
production of melanin, the pigment that gives color to our hair, eyes and skin.
"A genetic mutation affecting the OCA2 gene in our chromosomes resulted in the
creation of a 'switch,' which literally 'turned off' the ability to produce
brown eyes," Eiberg said.
The genetic switch is located in the gene adjacent to OCA2 and rather than
completely turning off the gene, the switch limits its action, which reduces the
production of melanin in the iris. In effect, the turned-down switch diluted
brown eyes to blue.
If the OCA2 gene had been completely shut down, our hair, eyes and skin would be
melanin-less, a condition known as albinism.
Eiberg and his team examined DNA from mitochondria, the cells' energy-making
structures, of blue-eyed individuals in countries including Jordan, Denmark and
Turkey. This genetic material comes from females, so it can trace maternal
lineages.
They specifically looked at sequences of DNA on the OCA2 gene and the genetic
mutation associated with turning down melanin production.
"What they were able to show is that the people who have blue eyes in Denmark,
as far as Jordan, these people all have this same haplotype, they all have
exactly the same gene changes that are all linked to this one mutation that
makes eyes blue," Hawks said in a telephone interview.
Melanin switch
The mutation is what regulates the OCA2 switch for melanin production. And
depending on the amount of melanin in the iris, a person can end up with eye
color ranging from brown to green. Brown-eyed individuals have considerable
individual variation in the area of their DNA that controls melanin production.
But they found that blue-eyed individuals only have a small degree of variation
in the amount of melanin in their eyes.
"Out of 800 persons we have only found one person which didn't fit ' but his eye
color was blue with a single brown spot," Eiberg told LiveScience, referring to
the finding that blue-eyed individuals all had the same sequence of DNA linked
with melanin production.
That genetic switch somehow spread throughout Europe and now other parts of the
world.
"The question really is, 'Why did we go from having nobody on Earth with blue
eyes 10,000 years ago to having 20 or 40 percent of Europeans having blue eyes
now'" Hawks said. "This gene does something good for people. It makes them have
more kids."

AN American man locked up for 30 years for the rape of an 11-year-old girl got
his first taste of freedom yesterday as DNA evidence proved his innocence.
An Ohio judge threw out his conviction because tests showed he did not rape the
child.
"It finally happened, I've been waiting," Raymond Towler (52), said as he hugged
sobbing family members in the courtroom.
He walked from the courthouse, arms around relatives, amid the smell of freshly
cut grass, blooming trees and a brisk wind off Lake Erie. He was headed to an
"everything on it" pizza party.
Emotional
Asked how he would adjust, Mr Towler responded: "Just take a deep breath and
just enjoy life right now."
Mr Towler had been serving a life sentence for the rape of a girl in a Cleveland
park in 1981. Prosecutors received the test results on Monday and immediately
asked the court to free him. Mr Towler deflected a question about demanding an
apology.
"I think it was just a process, you know, the DNA," he said. "It just took a
couple of years to get to it. We finally got to it and the job was done."
In a brief, emotionally charged session, Judge Eileen Gallagher recapped the
case, discussed the recently processed DNA evidence and threw out his
conviction. She also told him that he can sue over his ordeal.
"You're free," the judge said, leaving the bench to shake Mr Towler's hand.
The Ohio Innocence Project, an organisation that uses DNA evidence to clear
people wrongfully convicted, said Mr Towler was among the longest incarcerated
people to be exonerated in US history. The longest was a man freed in Florida in
December after serving 35 years.
Mr Towler was arrested three weeks after the crime. The victim and witnesses
identified him from a photo, police said.
Carrie Wood, a staff attorney with the project, said the identifications were
questionable.
The latest technology allowed separate DNA testing of a semen sample and other
genetic material, possibly skin cells, she said.
Attorneys with the project have been working on the case since 2004, and Mr
Towler said that and his faith had given him hope.
