Returning to the Land of Israel
This present feature is still under construction.
Its purpose is mainly to provide a forum for alternate opinions on the subject of Return as well as a further clarification of the position of Brit-Am.
Views posted here are not necessarily those of Brit-Am.
Using Brit-Am as "token" Jews.
In the article below by John Hulley and the proposed meeting that did take place Rabbi Avraham Feld and Yair Davidiy were evidently selected as "token" Jews though several other members and guests of Brit-Am were present.
This may or may not have been fair enough but it is not strictly correct.
The meeting was co-ordinated with us by telephone. The document below or something like it may have been sent to us in an attached file but we evidently lost it. For whatever the reason we did not see the document until after the meeting when we requested it be sent to us again.
As far as we are concerned We attended the meeting as REPRESENTATIVES OF BRIT-AM and so did most of the others not all of whom are Jewish.
Brit-Am sees itself as representing BOTH Judah and Joseph in their mutual need to recognize the ancestral identity of Joseph and to work for the fraternal common good of each party culminating with an eventual re-unification.
We consider attempts to restrict the outreach of Brit-Am to Judah as antagonistic to us. Reaching Judah is VERY important. Neverthless the basic aim of Brit-Am is to impart our message to Joseph and that is what we do. In this matter Brit-Am represents both Judah and Joseph.
Not only that but we consider ourselves (at least in potential) the valid representatives of Joseph.
Brit-Am has the potential to become the central address for all serious Ephraimite issues. That is what Brit-Am exists for.
PROPOSED MEETING BETWEEN SOME JEWS AND EPHRAIMITES
As noted above this heading may be misleading since the attendants came as representatives or guests of Brit-Am. Brit-Am has both Jews and non-Jews within its ranks and considers itself as representative of both. The described discussion was therefore one between Brit-Am members in which John Hulley and his guests participated.

The conversation would be based primarily on prophecy in the
Tanach/OT, since this is the only book which both sides regard as
authoritative (even though Christians do not put it in first place, and
though Orthodox Jews regard the Prophets and Writings as less reliable than
the Torah).
It is agreed that the discussion would go best if each side
refrained from proselytizing the other.
The Ephraimite side might make a presentation along the following
lines...
WHY THE IMPASSE?
Progress is stalemated while each side waits for one of two things
to happen: either the other side converts, or the messiah appears and
straightens everything out. On the one hand the Israelis only allow
converts to Judaism to immigrate. On the other hand Christians overseas are
supporting missionaries in Israel seeking to convert Jews to Christianity.
According to prophecy however both of these events -- spiritual
reconciliation and the coming of the messiah -- occur only after the two
houses have returned to the land, not before. Specifically the following
sequence of events is prophesied...
reconquest of the land by both houses
resettlement by both houses
divine purification of all from spiritual filth and idolatry
elevation to a new level of understanding
spiritual reconciliation of the two houses
coming of the Davidic king or messiah (not mentioned in preceding
stages)
assisting him in straightening out the world
If this interpretation is correct, the first step is the return.
The two houses settle in the land unreconciled and in a condition of
spiritual imperfection. We should get on with this process without waiting
either for the messiah or for the conversion of one house to the faith of
the other. For according to prophecy nothing much is going to happen until
both houses are back. And if we don't do it, HaShem may use some other (not
necessarily agreeable) way to bring it about.
This would mean that the return of Ephraim involves the same kind of
problems as has the return of Judah. It will be carried out on the basis of
decisions by human beings on both sides without intervention by the messiah.
There will be blood, sweat and tears, as well as mistakes. Just as some of
the supposed Jewish immigrants are not really Jewish, so some of the
supposed Ephraimite immigrants will not really be Ephraimite. Conversely
some who really are Ephraimite will be rejected. We must get on with the
job anyway, trusting that our mistakes will be corrected when greater
spiritual clarity and the messiah come.
WHO ARE THE MOST OBVIOUS EPHRAIMITES?
So as to minimize error we should begin with the most obvious
Ephraimites. These are from among the two Josephite tribes of Ephraim and
Manasseh; for the number of nations that have reached the characteristic of
being world powers, as prophesied for these two (Deut 33:13-17), is small
and distinctive. If we understand the prophecy about "ends of the earth" to
mean nations that have been able to apply their power on the opposite side
of the world, it includes only seven -- Spain, Portugal, Britain, Holland,
France, Germany and the U.S. And the number is narrowed still further by
the prophecies (Isaiah 11:11-14; Obadiah 17-21; Zechariah 10:3-10) that they
will take part in the military restoration of Israel. Among the seven only
the English-speaking nations and France qualify.
The number should probably also be further narrowed to those whose
ancestors have been living in those nations during the last century - the
period during which they have been fulfilling the prophecy of participating
in the military restoration of Israel. And their earlier ancestry should
be traceable to those parts of western and central Europe which have been
identified as areas settled by a large part of the lost tribes.
Among them the number would be further narrowed to Bible-believing
persons/families who feel spiritually led to return to the land.
Accordingly these would be primarily the evangelicals with an Israelite
orientation - proportionately largest in the U.S., smallest in France.
Their path here might be smoothed politically by the fact that they are the
people two non-believing prime ministers - Netanyahu and Sharon - have
characterized as the only friends Israel has in the world.
Finally the number will in any case be narrowed still further by the
well-known difficulty for income-earners to move from a higher to a
lower-income area.
Ways would be worked out to minimize unnecessary friction between
the two houses so long as they are not reconciled. For example there might
be separate Ephraimite settlements. If their numbers threaten to become
overwhelming, there might be solutions in some future day such as plans for
legislative safeguards, e.g. a two-house Knesset, or in other ways.
Ephraimites from other tribes would be admitted to Israel later on as
it becomes easier to recognize them.

#4. Brit-Am Meets With "Ephraimites" in Jerusalem
Here is a major article from John Hulley interspersed with
Brit-Am Commentary and Reservations.
Prophetic Profile of the HOUSE of EPHRAIM
(the ten lost tribes of Israel)
from the Old Testament
http://www.johnhulley.com/Prophetic_Profile.html
1) The Ephraimite tribes are to be exiled. **
Leviticus 26:33; Deuteronomy 4:27; 28:64; 1 Kings 14:15; Jeremiah 9:16; 13:24; Ezekiel 4:13; 20:23; 22:15; 36:18-20; Hosea 7:8; 9:17; Amos 5:27
(** Prophecy already fulfilled)
[Brit-Am Comment: Accepted]
2) They will lose their faith and identity.
** 1 Kings 14:16; Isaiah 50:1; Jeremiah 3:8; Hosea 1:4,6,9; 2:13
(** Prophecy already fulfilled)
[Brit-Am Comment: Accepted. The Lost ten tribes had their own role to play in world history. Losing knowledge of their ancestry was part of the Divine Plan]
3) But God will know where they are.
** Ezekiel 37; Hosea 2:14-15; Amos 9:9; Zechariah 10:9-10
(** Prophecy already fulfilled)
[Brit-Am Comment: Accepted. They will be fulfilling a role of their own]
4) Forgiving them their sins, he will pour his Spirit on them.
* Isaiah 32:15; 44:1-5; 59:20-21; Jeremiah 31:18-20,31-40; 33:7-8; 50:20; Ezekiel 37:14; Hosea 1:10; 2:23; 3:5;14:4-7; Joel 2:28-29
(* Prophecy partly fulfilled).
[Brit-Am Comment:
The simple indications of Scripture
are that wars and great tribulations are liable to occur before the Prophesied Changes take place
in which only a remnant may participate.]
5) They will become numerous and rich and rise to world power.
* Genesis 15:5; 22:17; 24:60; 32:12; 49:22-26;
Deuteronomy 7:6; 28:1-14; 33:13-17; Isaiah 54:1; Hosea 1:10; Micah :7-9.
(* Prophecy partly fulfilled).
[Brit-Am Comment: We agree and have elaborated on this and related matters in our articles concerning Biblical Evidence].
6) With the house of Judah (the Jews) they will reconquer the land
* Isaiah 11:11-14; Obadiah 17-21; Zechariah 10:3-10
(* Prophecy partly fulfilled).
[Brit-Am Comment: This is something of an interesting perspective but Biblicallly correct. Prophecy does indicate different stages and different roles to be played in the separate sections of the Land of Israel as defined by the Bible from the Nile to the Euphrate.
For the Prophesied Role of Judah today as leading the way for the other tribes see our article,
The Jews are Judah!
Isaiah 11:11-14 says that the Lost Tribes will be gathered together and so will the Jews
with them. The friction that formally existed between them will be no-more.
Isaiah 11:11-14 says that Ephraim and Judah will together fly the Palestinians
to some other place in the west as we have explained.
Obadiah 17-21 according to our understanding speaks of Joseph defeating Edom
whom we identify with modern European entities but possibly also including
Japan and Korea. Obadiah 1:19 also indicates a dispossession of the Palestinian-Philistines.
Zechariah 10:3-10 speaks of Judah and Ephraim uniting to fight a common enemy.
The heroism and might of Ephraim is emphasized.
Ephraim will return to Lebanon and Syria which will be crowded out due to their presence.
John Hulley says that these prophecies have been partially fulfilled?
It may be.
The given scenarios at the least now seem feasible.
We can see how such events could take place as an outcome of the present situation
and it could happen very quickly.
Who would have believed that the Soviet Union would suddenly dissolve itself
before it happened and as quickly and dramatically as it did?.
7) and resettle there.
* Isaiah 27:13; 54; Jeremiah 3:18; 23:3,7-8; 30:10; 31:4?10, 13-21,27-28; 32:37; 33:7, 23-26; 50:19;
Ezekiel 11:17; 36:24; 37:14, 21-22; 39:25-28;47:13-48:29; Hosea 1:10; 2:17-20; Amos 9:9; Micah 7:14; Zechariah 10:6, 9-10
(* Prophecy partly fulfilled).
Brit-Am Comment: This is agreed. In the Last Days and in the period leading up to them Joseph and Judah
will unite and together inherit and settle the Land of Israel as Biblically defined from the Nile to the Euphrates.
At present Judah as the forerunner and representative of all Israel has begun to prepare the way
and has been assisted in doing so by Joseph.
8) Ephraim and Judah will be spiritually purified, instructed and reunited, ending the division into two houses,
Isaiah 11:13; Jeremiah 3:14-15. 50:20; Ezekiel 11:18-20; 36:24-29; 37:16-28; Amos 9:11; Zechariah 13:2-5
[Brit-Am Comment: This is what the Bible says].
9) and become a kingdom of priests, a blessing to every family on earth
Genesis 12:3; 18:18; 22:18; 26:4; 28:14;
Exodus 19:6; Leviticus 20:26; Deuteronomy 7:6; 26:19; 28:1,9,13; Isaiah 49:6, 22-26; 60:1-3; 61:6; Zechariah 8:13
[Brit-Am Comment: Agreed].
10) with the throne of the Lord in their midst in Jerusalem.
Isaiah 9:6-7; 11; 24:23; Jeremiah 3:17; Ezekiel 37:22-28; 40:1-47:12; Hosea 1:11; Joel 3:16-17,21; Zechariah 8:3
Brit-Am Comment: The Messiah will reign as prophesied.
3. Edward Anderson:
Judah the Key to a Great Awakening
From: edward anderson <ea12345678@yahoo.com>
Subject: Return of Ephraim:
Dear Yair,
I would like to add a comment to your forum since
it was an "open" forum. I agree that Judah AND Joseph
need to find each other, and that Judah should help
bring Joseph back to the "Law" however, if one reads
the Scriptures rightly, one will see that it will be
Messiah who will bring Joseph back to Judah, not we
ourselves, and it will be AFTER He returns to reign
upong David's throne in Jerusalem. In fact, we are
told WHEN the regathering will take place:
Is.27:12-13 And it shall come to pass in THAT Day,
that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the
river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be
GATHERED one by one, O ye children of Israel. (13) And
it shall come to pass in THAT Day that the GREAT
TRUMPET shall be blown, and they shall come which were
ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the
outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the
LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
...Yes, even though the tribes as a
whole will NOT be regathered UNTIL Messiah comes back,
it is pertinent that they be made aware of their
condition and position and that is where the work of
Brit-Am and others come in. However, I feel that the
Jews are cloistured behind their own walls of worship
and are NOT trying to awaken Joseph back to the Law as
they should be doing. I understand the bad blood of
the past between them but who is more at fault here,
the ones that DID know the Truth and DID NOTHING, or
those that are ASLEEP, and know nothing!!!??? Someone
had a very good idea on your web site of witnessing to
our Jewish brothers about the lost tribes of Joseph...
I believe that once Judah sees the Truth of who and where their
brother Joseph is, and his spiritual condition, I
think it would then contribute to a Great Awakening of
helping lay the groundwork of bringing the tribes back
together. Well, that's my take on it.

DISCUSSION: The Return of "Ephraim"
SELECTED MINUTES OF MEETING OF OCTOBER 13, 2006
as recorded by Carmelita Lee with slight amendments.
An informal meeting was held October 13th, 2006 between supporters of Brit Am and others to discuss efforts to realize the infusion of Joes or Ephraimites into the land of Israel, and concerning reunion/communion with Judah.
The following is a summary of the discussion which was held.
A verbatim report was not taken of this meeting.
The meeting started at 10:00 a.m. in the Sukkah of Cafe Rimon, and then moved to a private room at Cafe Ticho across the street. In attendance at the meeting were:
John Hulley, Rabbi Avraham Feld, Cheryl Crenshaw,
Yair Davidiy, Raymond Lee and his wife, Patty Mitchell, and Rick Richardson and his wife.
Opening remarks were given by John Hulley, who presented a paper which bore the somewhat inappropriate title,
"PROPOSED MEETING BETWEEN SOME JEWS AND EPHRAIMITES".
According to John Hulley the Messiah is not prophesied to return until after the regathering of the tribes to the land. And it is no use waiting for either house to become converted to the religion of the other, because reconciliation is not prophesied until after both have returned. The ALMIGHTY will appoint shepherds over both houses and they will rise to new levels of understanding.
Accordingly Ephraim must return as Judah is doing without messianic guidance.
The practical place to begin is with the most obvious ones. Combining the two prophecies listed in the paper points to parts of the populations of the U.S., Britain (along with Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa) and France as the most obvious candidates for recognition as Ephraimites. He stated that any country which had contributed militarily to the establishment (and keeping) of Israel was showing a mark of the House of Ephraim.
Mr. Hulley said that moving to Israel is difficult for Westerners because of the sharp drop in income. He quoted the rabbinic view that for this reason it is particularly difficult for women.
Mr. Hulley suggested that political support for opening the door to Ephraimites might come from at least some right-wing politicians on the basis of observations by two secular prime ministers Netanyahu and Sharon that Bible-believing Christians are the only friends Israel has in the world. He said that some secular Israelis might at least welcome the return because it could strengthen military support from America.
Mr. Hulley said that the two houses (Judah/Ephraim) will reconquer the land.
It was said that for the most part Israelis do not believe in the concept of the regathering of the Lost Tribes.
Yair Davidiy said that Religious Jews do believe in the regathering; backed up by Rabbi Avraham Feld, who agreed.
Rabbi Avraham Feld then took the floor and indicated that the problem of getting a non-Jewish immigration moving is more political than spiritual at this point. He mentioned the need for a lobbyist and related experiences of his own in this regard.
Rabbi Avraham indicated that we need to approach the powers that be with a plan for a special visa for Ephraimites to come in, and that it should be approached politically, emphasizing not that those entering on this special visa could possibly remain permanently if they so wished, but that they will be here as taxpayers, building up the country, etc, -the details being up for discussion. Rabbi Avraham Feld suggested that explaining the contribution that could be made by Ephraimites may be a better way to approach the politicians, rather than presenting it as the fulfillment of prophecy.
Questions from the floor asked if the Christian Embassy and other organizations would be able to help in the effort, and the difficulties these groups were having was explained.
A comment from the floor concerned those who wish to accept the Noachide laws and live under them. There was a lot of discussion as to whether or not the criteria for the Noachide law would fit within the framework of the return of the tribes. However, Rabbi Avraham Feld pointed out that since Israeli law recognizes a status of Noachides that it might be one avenue for Ephraimites to consider.
Rabbi Avraham Feld pointed out that secular Israel practices a polite atheism, and that in the Diaspora intermarriage is at 72 percent.
The current military situation was discussed, and the fact that if Israel actually faces a destructive war, the hope is that America will step up to the plate to help out. Rabbi Feld said that Israel has a need for its enemies to be defeated and re-educated.
Raymond Lee mentioned that the economy received a tremendous boost during the Russian aliyah, and mentioned that the Evangelicals love Israel. The problem of interesting Christians who love Israel to move here was discussed, and the comment was made that they need a better theology, owing the fact to their intransigence being the belief in a rapture which will remove them from the tribulation period.
Cheryl noted that prophecy seems to be unfolding as we go day by day.
It was suggested from the floor that the organization attempt to become more formal, and that a mission statement should be agreed upon, and that fundraising should begin in earnest for the purpose of introducing a bill at the Knesset for the provision of a special visa for Ephraimites/Christians, and that we should have a clearly defined purpose.
Rick Richardson mentioned that we are too isolated, and that there are many other groups moving in the same direction, but most without any kind of guidance or idea of how to accomplish the goal. He also pointed out that it was important that we not emphasize titles, whether we call ourselves Noachides or Ephraimites or Joes or Lost Tribes.
Rabbi Avraham Feld pointed out that anything we do must be presented in a nonthreatening way, and that Christians tend to come in with their brochures and tracts and more or less try to press their views on whomever will listen. He said it would be better to say to the religious Jews, can you teach a group of non-Jews, not can you teach a group of Christians [which could sound confrontational]. One option would be to pursue a Noachide path.
Rabbi Avraham Feld said we need to get the Jews and Christians to a point of wanting to work together. He said we need to have acceptance of one another, and that we should use terminology that everyone would understand.
Rabbi Avraham pointed out that for the time being Judah wont change, and Ephraim is unlikely to become halachic or abandon their former beliefs. Changes in the Messianic Era will not contradict the Halacha.
A question was asked from the floor, what about Joseph having a superior claim than Judah to the area in Samaria, and where will Ephraim live?
Yair Davidiy in reaction to this remark pointed out that the land of Joseph lies to the north, and that Lebanon is slated to become a part of their territory, and suggested that any Ephraimites who want to live in Israel should start there. He pointed out that Zechariah 10 and Micah indicate that Ephraim will occupy Syria and Lebanon.
Someone added that Lebanese Christians would love to have them come.
Rabbi Avraham Feld pointed out that Lebanon is already about 54% Christian.
It was then objected that nobody wanted anything to do with Arabs.
Yair Davidiy suggested that many Ephraimites who said they wished to return to the Land in effect meant they wanted to be accepted in Israel by Judah without meeting the requirements set by Judah.
Further discussion followed from which it was generally agreed that greater Outreach efforts should be made to JUDAH in the State of Israel. Various suggestions were raised as to how this should be done and where the means to do it might be availed.
Rabbi Avraham Feld said that Brit-Am already possesses the necessary framework to do whatever is needed but lacks the financial means to put necessary programs into effect.
There was general discussion after each presentation, and light refreshments were served.
5. Important Brit-Am DECLARATION
Noachides
Brit-Am does NOT advocate that "Joes" become Noachides unless they are already
committed to such a path. If such is the case we believe that such a path be temporary.
Rabbi Feld as quoted above should not be understood as necessarily recommending the Noachide Path for individuals but rather that similar solutions as those proposed and partially applied for Noachides in general may also be applicable for Joes. What Rabbi Feld said should also be understood as a suggestion for consideration rather than a declaration of principle.
Brit-Am does not provide religious solutions apart from noting that according to the Bible God will guide they who seek HIM.
In the future a pathway specially suited for "Joes" may exist as indicated by
Ezekiel 16:59 and noted by the Brit-Am Biblical Commentary to that verse.
Brit-Am does not have to provide answers to every question but is justified in cleaving to its own particular task which in our time is of the utmost importance.
The task of Brit-Am is embodied by:
The Three Rs
Research of Brit-Am ancestral identity.
Revelation of the Research findings.
Reconciliation of Judah and Joseph.
Lebanon
Our remarks above on Lebanon were not made in order to cast Ephraimite wishing to live in Israel aside.
We wished to make two points:
(a) Lebanon and Syria belong to Israelite-Joseph:
The Israelite ancestral rights to Lebanon and Syria must not be abandoned.
Prophecy (Zechariah 10:10 Micah 7:14) indicates that Joseph will repossess these areas and it may be that after Joseph takes control of these regions the future reunification of Joseph and Judah will take place.
(b) Joes Wishing to Live in the State of Israel must take account of Judah.
We are in favor of Ephramities returning to the State of Israel or taking steps to do so.
NEVERTHELESS, we wished to emphasize two issues:
(a) Geneaology matters, We must considers ourselves primarily part of a WHOLE House of Israel (or of Judah) with all that this entails as explained below.
(b) NOTHING can be done without the agreement and active assistance of Judah.
The GOODWILL of both Judah and Joseph must be maintained at all times.
Everything should be done to bring Judah over to "our" side.
This includes spreading the Brit-Am message to BOTH Joseph and Judah.
The more support Brit-Am receives from Joseph the more
Judah will listen.

6. Paula: Remember Why We Were Exiled
To: The Brit Am Forum
Is simple immigration our goal or is the recognition of the Northern House and return of the Northern House our goal?
While it is true that the full realization of the covenant will happen when we are in the land, we must begin this return to the covenant here, in exile.
Read Leviticus 26.
The question isnt whether or not Judah is ready for us; the question is whether or not we are ready. When we are ready the following will happen:
Tanach - Deuteronomy Chapter 30
1. And it shall come to pass, when all these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you shall call them to mind among all the nations, where the Lord your God has driven you,
2. And shall return to the Lord your God, and shall obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul;
3. That then the Lord your God will turn your captivity, and have compassion upon you, and will return and gather you from all the nations, where the Lord your God has scattered you.
4. If your outcasts have been driven out to the farthest parts of heaven, from there will the Lord your God gather you, and from there will he fetch you;
5. And the Lord your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and he will do you good, and multiply you above your fathers.
6. And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.
While it is a good idea to reach out to Judah, we need to understand why we were driven out of the land in the first place. Again, read Leviticus 26.
Thanks Paula
7. Genealogy Matters!
Coming to the Land and
The Need to Cleave to Joseph or Judah
In Ancient Times the Israelites were divided into Tribes and into Tribal Clans within the Tribes (Numbers ch.26). There was a further subdivision into groups of thousands, hundreds (Numbers 31:14) and these into bodies of fifty and then of ten. Each subdivision had its own leader:
[Exodus 18:21] MOREOVER THOU SHALT PROVIDE OUT OF ALL THE PEOPLE ABLE MEN, SUCH AS FEAR GOD, MEN OF TRUTH, HATING COVETOUSNESS; AND PLACE SUCH OVER THEM, TO BE RULERS OF THOUSANDS, AND RULERS OF HUNDREDS, RULERS OF FIFTIES, AND RULERS OF TENS.
Every person had their ancestral holding within the Tribal framework (Leviticus 25:13).
All this at least was in principle though in practice the Tribes got a bit mixed up with each other. There were also foreigners amongst them who came to identify with them and to be accepted as part of them.
So too in the Last Days non-Israelites who dwell amongst Israelites will be accepted as part of the Tribe they live amongst, as noted in the Brit-Am Commentary to Ezekiel:
[Ezekiel 47:22] AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS, THAT YE SHALL DIVIDE IT BY LOT FOR AN INHERITANCE UNTO YOU, AND TO THE STRANGERS THAT SOJOURN AMONG YOU, WHICH SHALL BEGET CHILDREN AMONG YOU: AND THEY SHALL BE UNTO YOU AS BORN IN THE COUNTRY AMONG THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL; THEY SHALL HAVE INHERITANCE WITH YOU AMONG THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL.
Non-Israelites who have settled amongst us, identified with us and shared
our trials and tribulations alongside us will be considered as the same as
us. They will be part of whatsoever Tribe of Israel they have dwelt amongst.
[Ezekiel 47:23] AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS, THAT IN WHAT TRIBE THE STRANGER SOJOURNETH, THERE SHALL YE GIVE HIM HIS INHERITANCE, SAITH THE LORD GOD.
These days NO-ONE can be absolutely sure as to what Tribe they belong. There are some amongst the Jews who have various family traditions, that they belong to Levi, Judah, etc. In many cases they may be correct but through the centuries mistakes in transmission may have occurred.
The Messiah (or a Messianic-connected process) will inform with certainty each Israelite to which Tribe they belong, as explained in the Brit-Am Commentary to Malachi 3:3:
In the days of the Messianic King: When his kingdom shall be settled and all of Israel gather unto him, he shall then give the Tribal-genealogy of each one. He shall do this through Divine inspiration. As it says, HE SHALL SIT AS A REFINER AND PURIFIER (Malachi 3:3). He will purify the Tribe of Levi first, as it says, "till there be stood up a priest with Urim and with Thumim" (Ezra 2;63). He [the Messiah] gives the genealogy of Israel only concerning which tribe each one belongs to..
[Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, The Laws of Kings, ch. 12, no.3].
Tribal association in general goes according to the Tribe of the father,
cf. "BY THE HOUSE OF THEIR FATHERS" Numbers 1:2.
These days we cannot know what Tribe our ancestors belonged to. We cannot even be absolutely certain that we descend from Israelites. Through something approaching "Divine Inspiration" along with prayer and study and researches such as those of Brit-Am we can however gain a fair idea to what part of Israel we should belong.
Every Israelite belongs to the Ten Tribes (Israel -Joseph) or to Judah (the Jews). By cleaving to whichever part of Israel we connect with we become part of them. In the future we (or our descendants) will know for sure which Tribe we really do descend from. If we are not descended from any tribe we will be counted amongst they with whom we identified.
The Staff of Joseph (the Ten Tribes) will unite with Judah (Ezekiel ch.37) and all Twelve Tribes receive an inheritance within the Greater Land of Israel from the Nile to the Euphrates (Ezekiel ch.47). As we noted, they who are not of Israelite ancestry will be included within the Tribe they dwell amongst (Ezekiel 47:22).
The emphasis is on the Tribe, dwelling with the Tribe, identifying with the Tribe.
A person may be convinced that they descend from Israelites and wish to settle in the Land of Israel. This may be possible or should become possible.
The optimum situation however is that one not act as an individual based on a singular claim of which one cannot be certain.
If a person wishes to live amongst Judah the best solution is to identify with Judah under the terms of Judah.
If one considers oneself as part of the Ten Tribes then one can BEST serve by cleaving to the Ten Tribes, confirming the Israelite Brit-Am Identity of these Tribes, and helping them become aware of who they are.
This is what Brit-Am teaches and advocates.
There are individual exceptions. There may be cases in which people from Judah find their destiny in "Joseph".
Alternately, individuals from "Joseph" may feel compelled to live in the Land of Israel amongst Judah while retaining their identification with Joseph. These however, as we said, are exceptions.
In general living with The Tribes in their place of Exile and affirming the ancestry of The Tribes in general is what the individual should concentrate upon.
Brit-Am works to confirm Israelite Tribal Ancestry in an over-all sense. This is what can be done. It is needed. This is a necessary first step. Brit-Am endeavors to do it. For this reason Brit-Am has a potential importance in our time. Through assistance to Brit-Am you will be fulfilling at least part of your Tribal Duty.
