Norway is one of the nations in which we find a significant number descended from Israel. Norway in general may be identified with the Israelite Tribes of Naphtali. It was part of the Lost Ten Tribes. These are associated in Biblical prophecy with Jacob. The Tribes of Jacob (Isaiah 49:6) are those of the Ten Tribes. They are at the Ends of the Earth (Isaiah 49:6) as Norway is. The Border between Israelite Norway and non-Israelite Russia is known as the River of Jacob (Jacobselv). Names have significance. |
Introduction. Norway. We identify Norway as one of the nations amongst whom a significant proportion of Israelites from the Ten Tribes are to be found. This does not mean that all the Norwegians are Hebrews by ancestry but many of them may well be. 2. The River of Jacob The Border of the River of Jacob Between Norway and Russia west of Murmansk. An interesting point concerning Norway is its borderline in the north with Russia. Here we find Jacob's River (Jakobselva) and Border of Jacob's River (Grense Jakobselva). Grense Jakobselva means Border of Jacob's River. It is a small village in Sor-Varanger Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. Grense Jakobselva is located on the shore of the Barents Sea at the mouth of the Jakobselva river, i.e. River of Jacob. It lies about 54 kilometres (34 mi) by road east of the town of Kirkenes. The area was settled by Norwegians in 1851. The Jakobselva (River of Jacob) river forms the border with Russia, it is to the east of Grense Jakobselva which name means Border of Jacob's River. Here, there is a small post of the Garrison of Sor-Varanger of the Norwegian Army, from where soldiers patrol the border. In this area, however, there is no public border crossing. Orjan Svennson of Sweden first brought our attention to this river, "which since the end of World War-II marks the border between Norway and Russia".

The Name Jacob and Israel We thus find the name Jacob associated with the border between Israelite Norway and non-Israelite Russia. Jacob is another name for Israel. See: Hebrew Patriarchal Names: Jacob http://www.britam.org/Proof/Attributes/roleHebrew.html#Jacob The Ten Tribes in the End Times are referred to in connection with the raising up of the Tribes of Jacob: The name Jacob is also associated with Britain whose flag is called the UNION JACK i.e. union or covenant of Jacob. So too, the nickname Yank or YANKEE for North American derives from a form of the name Jacob. The passage (Isaiah 49:5-6) links the Tribes of Jacob with the Ends of the Earth. We found Nations such as Norway and other Israelite countries at the Ends of the Earth (edges of Continental masses) and nearly all located to the north and west of the Land of Israel. Australia and New Zealand were amongst the exceptions but these too are mentioned elsewhere. cf, "BEHOLD, THESE SHALL COME FROM FAR: AND, LO, THESE FROM THE NORTH AND FROM THE WEST; AND THESE FROM THE LAND OF SINIM [Isaiah 49:12]. Land of Sinim means Australia and New Zealand. 4. Conclusion. Divine Providence and Place Names. We do not know why the Border between Norway and Russia bears the name Jacob. Perhaps there was a farmer in the region by that name? It does not really matter. Jacob means Israel. It is often used in relation to the Ten Tribes and in other cases of Lost Israelites we find it applied, e.g. Yank, Union Jack, and Jock meaning a Scotsman. Here too, the Jacobselva is a border-marker for peoples of Israelite descent versus those who are non-Israelites. The Jacobselva River bears the name Jacob. This is an example of Divine Providence such as we often find in Place-Names amongst Israelite Nations. |
