Sometimes a researcher can labor for hours, days, months, years, and not find the information he feels exists somewhere to confirm what research in other areas has indicated. At other times within minutes he may experience a flash of inspiration in which he manages to link various phenomena in a way that solves whatever particular conundrum he has been laboring over. Or he chances upon a snippet of information that opens up new possibilities. It also happens that what appears to be a research breakthrough with relevant events almost miraculously corresponding with each other can lead to false conclusions. New evidence can cause apparent tight links that confirm pet theories to unravel altogether. Whatever the case, more often than not, even if a certain idea eventually is disproved the ongoing self-occupation that the search requires can lead to breakthroughs in other directions. Megalithic Monuments describe a Migratory path between the region of Ancient Israelite Settlement and the West. This was predicted by the Prophet Jeremiah who indicated that this same path was to be used by future generations as proof of their origins. There is a trail recognized by Archaeology of Megalithic Monuments stretching from the Land of Israel to the West. Jeremiah tells us to use the existence of the Megalithic Monument Trail as Proof to Bring the Ten Tribes Home! Jeremiah 31:21 "Set yourself up stone monuments [menhirs, dolmens] and high heaps of stones [cairns] [i.e. Megalithic monuments!]. Set your heart towards the prepared way: The way in which you went. Turn back o virgin of Israel, return unto these cities of yours." See: "Dolmens and the Bible" http://www.britam.org/Proof/Attributes/roleDolmen.html The problem is that while we [i.e. Brit-Am and company] say that the Megaliths were constructed after ca. 700 BCE while MOST academics give dates like 4000 BCE (or earlier) to ca. 1500 BCE. The Ten Tribes were exiled from ca. 730 BCE according to conventional chronology. If as present day academic says the Megaliths were set up before then it follows that someone else and not the Israelites were responsible. We have however proof that these Monuments were constructed in the Late Bronze and Iron Ages and date from after the Ten Tribes were exiled! Present-day dating methods are mistaken. A point of evidence that MAY prove useful but that we do not need to prove our case Derives from the possibility that the astronomic alignments of these monuments MUST date from after ca. 700 BCE. Megalithic Monuments according to very very many researchers were aligned according to astronomical phenomenon. This has been confirmed at least in part by scientific evidence. Hundreds of megalithic monuments in Western Europe have been shown to have been constructed in a way that solar or astronomical phenomenon be observable along axes or through apertures that must have been so designed in advance. One day earlier or later usually means that the said phenomena are no longer observable. Examples may be experienced today by ANY visitor to Stonehenge etc in England, or to New Grange in Ireland, or in any one of numerous other sites. Velikovsky says that: # Scholars who investigated the calendars of the Incas of Peru and the Mayas of Yucatan wondered at the calendar of 360 days; so did the scholars who studied the calendars of the Egyptians, Persians, Hindus, Chaldeans, Assyrians, Hebrews, Chinese, Greeks, or Romans. Most of them, while debating the problem in their own field, did not suspect that the same problem turned up in the calendar of every nation of antiquity. # # THE REFORMING OF THE CALENDAR In the middle of the eighth century the calendar then in use became obsolete. From the year -747 until the last of the catastrophes on the twenty-third of March, -687, the solar and lunar movements changed repeatedly, necessitating adjustments of the calendar. Reforms undertaken during this time soon became obsolete in their turn, and were replaced by new ones; only after the last catastrophe of -687, when the present world order was established, did the calendar become permanent. # # All over the world we find that there was at some time the same calendar of 360 days, and that at some later date, about the seventh century before the present era, five days were added at the end of the year, as "days over the year," or "days of nothing." Velikovsky said that in about 700 BCE there occurred a change in the length of year from 360 days to the present 365. This makes for a month of 30 days. With twelve months in a year this gives us a year of 360 days. Genesis 7: 11 In the six hundredth year of Noahs life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights. 13 On the very same day Noah and Noahs sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and Noahs wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark. Genesis 7: 24 And the waters prevailed on the earth one hundred and fifty days. Genesis 8: 3 And the waters receded continually from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased. 4 Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat. 17.2.0 150 days 17.7.0 150 days in 5 months equals 30 days per month. 12 months in a year means a year of 360 days. Velikovsky says that the change in the length of the year was due to astronomical events over the period 747-687 BCE. He also relates the said changes to the sun going backward by 15 degrees on the sun-dial in the reign of King Hezekiah. Isaiah 38: 4 And the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go and tell Hezekiah, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years. 6 I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city. 7 And this is the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing which He has spoken: 8 Behold, I will bring the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down with the sun on the sundial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees on the dial by which it had gone down. If this is true and the megalithic monuments were indeed exactly astronomically aligned then in most cases they COULD NOT have been erected before 700 BCE! The problem is that researchers have not found evidence to confirm the claims of Velikovsky. On the contrary. It is said that ancient records disprove his point. For instance Robert R. Newton quotes from the Chinese Annals of Lu [Confucius, 479], concerning eclipses and that this show that the length of the year has not changed. That is all we need. At this state in our journey we are not about to learn new sciences and delve into ancient records of astronomical phenomena that few can understand and that are difficult to explain. Chances are however that others have already done part of this work and more will be done in future for other reasons. We shall keep our eyes open and if there is truth in this direction, God willing, it shall be made known to us. |
