To Hear a Talk based on the Text below: Deuteronomy. Commentary to the Book of Deuteronomy (Devorim) according to the Weekly Portion. |
Also regarding the Torah:
It is true that at present
you are not obliged by the Torah but in the future you will be and now you have
some obligation to begin to find your way back. This is implied in the Prophets.
So do not keep a Kosher Kitchen like the Jews do with all the nuts and bolts and
itty bitty niceties of the Ultra Orthodox but at least refrain from non-Kosher
foods. This is to your advantage from a health point of view and in other ways.
[Deuteronomy 7:16] AND THOU SHALT CONSUME ALL THE PEOPLE WHICH THE LORD THY GOD
SHALL DELIVER THEE; THINE EYE SHALL HAVE NO PITY UPON THEM: NEITHER SHALT THOU
SERVE THEIR GODS; FOR THAT WILL BE A SNARE UNTO THEE.
When we are dealing with our enemies we
should remember that is what they are.
The Muslims and third world peoples are quite capable of eating you all alive.
Have mercy on your own kind and if you have to defend yourselves do so without
compunctions.
Get rid of Obama.
For all we know he may well be a basically good person but he is against the
Israelite consciousness of our peoples.
We are too soft, all of us.
Tolerance of homosexuals, Muslims, and enemies of the Israelite Nations and
Israelite Values is a mistake.
[Deuteronomy 7:17] IF THOU SHALT SAY IN THINE HEART, THESE NATIONS ARE MORE THAN
I; HOW CAN I DISPOSSESS THEM?
Do not be afraid of homosexuals and
other evil people. God will help you overcome adversity.
When the Israelites were coming into the Land they were commanded to dispossess
the peoples who were already there. So too in our time we are obligated to
transfer the Palestinians out of the Holy Land.
[Deuteronomy 7:18] THOU SHALT NOT BE AFRAID OF THEM: BUT SHALT WELL REMEMBER
WHAT THE LORD THY GOD DID UNTO PHARAOH, AND UNTO ALL EGYPT;
We should not fear the Palestinians
despite the fact that all the Arab nations as well as nearly all Africa and Asia
and most of Europe support them.
[Deuteronomy 7:19] THE GREAT TEMPTATIONS WHICH THINE EYES SAW, AND THE SIGNS,
AND THE WONDERS, AND THE MIGHTY HAND, AND THE STRETCHED OUT ARM, WHEREBY THE
LORD THY GOD BROUGHT THEE OUT: SO SHALL THE LORD THY GOD DO UNTO ALL THE PEOPLE
OF WHOM THOU ART AFRAID.
TEMPTATIONS. Hebrew "Masot".
Rashi
translates it as "temptations" same as the KJ. An alternative is to view the
word as a cognate of "nes"
and to mean "signs" or "wonders". A related word "Masah"
in Modern Hebrew means "Essay" or Discourse.
In line with this the Biblical Hebrew word above, "masot",
could be taken to mean "wondrous happenings".
[Deuteronomy 7:20] MOREOVER THE LORD THY GOD WILL SEND THE HORNET AMONG THEM,
UNTIL THEY THAT ARE LEFT, AND HIDE THEMSELVES FROM THEE, BE DESTROYED.
Cf. God send a "tsirah"
(translated as "wasp" but actually connoting "sickness") before them,
Exodus 23:28 Deuteronomy 7:20,
Joshua 24:12
http://britam.org/joshua/joshua24.html
[Joshua 24:12] AND I SENT
THE HORNET BEFORE YOU, WHICH
DRAVE THEM OUT FROM BEFORE YOU,
EVEN THE TWO KINGS OF THE AMORITES; BUT NOT WITH THY SWORD, NOR WITH THY BOW.
HORNET in Hebrew is
Tzirah.
It could also be related to the word for leprosy,
Tsaarah.
The great commentator Iben
Ezra suggested that the Hebrew word translated as hornet in
this case was some kind of disease. The enemy was
miraculously weakened before the Israelites joined battle with them. The Bible
says that the Canaanites would be driven out by the sicknesses of Egypt and by
the "hornet". The word translated as 'hornet" in the Bible is "Tsirah"
and some commentators (e.g. Iben
Ezra)says it is cognate with the word translated as "leprosy" ("Tsarat"
from the same root) and actually means a kind of sickness or a sickness. Perhaps both explanations are correct and it was a plague transmitted by some kind of mite or other insect?
[Exodus 23:28] AND I WILL SEND HORNETS BEFORE THEE, WHICH SHALL DRIVE OUT THE
HIVITE,
THE CANAANITE, AND THE HITTITE, FROM BEFORE THEE.
When the British-descended peoples entered North America and Australia the local
natives who opposed them were decimated by diseases such as the common cold for
which the Europeans had already acquired a relative immunity.
[Deuteronomy 7:21] THOU SHALT NOT BE AFFRIGHTED AT THEM: FOR THE LORD THY GOD IS
AMONG YOU, A MIGHTY GOD AND TERRIBLE.
[Deuteronomy 7:22] AND THE LORD THY GOD WILL PUT OUT THOSE NATIONS BEFORE THEE
BY LITTLE AND LITTLE: THOU MAYEST NOT CONSUME THEM AT ONCE, LEST THE BEASTS OF
THE FIELD INCREASE UPON THEE.
The Arab-Palestinians will eventually
have to leave the Land of Israel and surrounding regions. In the meantime they
have built modern cities and infrastructure that Israelites will benefit from
after them.
[Deuteronomy 7:23] BUT THE LORD THY GOD SHALL DELIVER THEM UNTO THEE, AND SHALL
DESTROY THEM WITH A MIGHTY DESTRUCTION, UNTIL THEY BE DESTROYED.
[Deuteronomy 7:24] AND HE SHALL DELIVER THEIR KINGS INTO THINE HAND, AND THOU
SHALT DESTROY THEIR NAME FROM UNDER HEAVEN: THERE SHALL NO MAN BE ABLE TO STAND
BEFORE THEE, UNTIL THOU HAVE DESTROYED THEM.
[Deuteronomy 7:25] THE GRAVEN IMAGES OF THEIR GODS SHALL YE BURN WITH FIRE: THOU
SHALT NOT DESIRE THE SILVER OR GOLD THAT IS ON THEM, NOR TAKE IT UNTO THEE, LEST
THOU BE SNARED THERIN: FOR IT IS AN ABOMINATION TO THE LORD THY
GOD.
Nazi paraphernalia, mementoes, etc are
sold for moderately high prices. They also serve to maintain an interest in Nazi
ideology and adherence to it.
[Deuteronomy 7:26] NEITHER SHALT THOU BRING AN ABOMINATION INTO THINE HOUSE,
LEST THOU BE A CURSED THING LIKE IT: BUT THOU SHALT UTTERLY DETEST IT, AND THOU
SHALT UTTERLY ABHOR IT; FOR IT IS A CURSED THING.
Pornography etc is considered by some in
some situations to have possible therapeutic value. We doubt this. Our
impression is that it causes harm and should be destroyed.
[Deuteronomy 8:1] ALL THE COMMANDMENTS WHICH I COMMAND THEE THIS DAY SHALL YE
OBSERVE TO DO, THAT YE MAY LIVE, AND MULTIPLY, AND GO IN AND POSSESS THE LAND
WHICH THE LORD SWARE UNTO YOUR FATHERS.
Living in the Land of Israel is the End
Purpose in many respects of the whole Torah.
[Deuteronomy 8:2] AND THOU SHALT REMEMBER ALL THE WAY WHICH THE LORD THY GOD LED
THEE THESE FORTY YEARS IN THE WILDERNESS, TO HUMBLE THEE, AND TO PROVE THEE, TO
KNOW WHAT WAS IN THINE HEART, WHETHER THOU WOULDEST KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, OR
NO.
[Deuteronomy 8:3] AND HE HUMBLED THEE, AND SUFFERED THEE TO HUNGER, AND FED THEE
WITH MANNA, WHICH THOU KNEWEST NOT, NEITHER DID THY FATHERS KNOW; THAT HE MIGHT
MAKE THEE KNOW THAT MAN DOTH NOT LIVE BY BREAD ONLY, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT
PROCEEDETH OUT OF THE MOUTH OF THE LORD DOTH MAN LIVE.
[Deuteronomy 8:4] THY RAIMENT WAXED NOT OLD UPON THEE, NEITHER DID THY FOOT
SWELL, THESE FORTY YEARS.
[Deuteronomy 8:5] THOU SHALT ALSO CONSIDER IN THINE HEART, THAT, AS A MAN
CHASTENETH HIS SON, SO THE LORD THY GOD CHASTENETH THEE.
[Deuteronomy 8:6] THEREFORE THOU SHALT KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD THY
GOD, TO WALK IN HIS WAYS, AND TO FEAR HIM.
[Deuteronomy 8:7] FOR THE LORD THY GOD BRINGETH THEE INTO A GOOD LAND, A LAND OF
BROOKS OF WATER, OF FOUNTAINS AND DEPTHS THAT SPRING OUT OF VALLEYS AND HILLS;
[Deuteronomy 8:8] A LAND OF WHEAT, AND BARLEY, AND VINES, AND FIG TREES, AND
POMEGRANATES; A LAND OF OIL OLIVE, AND HONEY;
[Deuteronomy 8:9] A LAND WHEREIN THOU SHALT EAT BREAD WITHOUT SCARCENESS, THOU
SHALT NOT LACK ANY THING IN IT; A LAND WHOSE STONES ARE IRON, AND OUT OF WHOSE
HILLS THOU MAYEST DIG BRASS.
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.
The word translated here as Brass in Hebrew is "nechoshet"
meaning copper or in some contexts bronze which is an alloy of copper and tin.
Iron is found in Kurdistan in the border regions of Syria and in what is now
Turkey and Iron was in the past was also found in Lebanon.
Copper is found in the south of Israel near
Eilat.
As well as in Cyrpus.
Our word in English "copper" comes from Cyprus.
Cyprus is also part of the Promised Land of Israel.
http://www.britam.org/Questions/QuesLand.html#Cyprus
Gold is found in Western
Anatolia (Lydia in Turkey).
The State of Israel within its present borders has:
Copper
Phosphates
Bromide
Potash
Clay
Sand
Sulfur
Asphalt
Manganese
Small quantities of crude oil and hitherto exploited natural gas. The
above-mentioned recently discovered gas deposits comprise some of the largest in
the world but have yet to be harvested.
In Biblical times the primary metal in use was bronze which was an alloy of
copper and tin. The region of the Jordan Valley was a major internationally
important center for the manufacture of bronze. At least some of the tin
employed came from Britain but other sources probably also existed.
Possibilities for alternate sources of time include Afghanistan. Some time was
once available in Turkey but was worked out at an early period.
[Deuteronomy 8:10] WHEN THOU HAST EATEN AND ART FULL, THEN THOU
SHALT BLESS THE LORD THY GOD FOR THE GOOD LAND WHICH HE HATH GIVEN THEE.
Religious Jews say a very short blessing
before eating and a long one after eating a substantial meal. They learn this
practice from the above verse where the commandment to bless the Almighty comes
after have eaten and being full. The Land of Israel is recalled in this blessing
and hold a central place in all Jewish worship.
s.2
[Deuteronomy 8:11] BEWARE THAT THOU FORGET NOT THE LORD THY GOD, IN NOT KEEPING
HIS COMMANDMENTS, AND HIS JUDGMENTS, AND HIS STATUTES, WHICH I COMMAND THEE THIS
DAY:
[Deuteronomy 8:12] LEST WHEN THOU HAST EATEN AND ART FULL, AND HAST BUILT GOODLY
HOUSES, AND DWELT THEREIN;
[Deuteronomy 8:13] AND WHEN THY HERDS AND THY FLOCKS MULTIPLY, AND THY SILVER
AND THY GOLD IS MULTIPLIED, AND ALL THAT THOU HAST IS MULTIPLIED;
[Deuteronomy 8:14] THEN THINE HEART BE LIFTED UP, AND THOU FORGET THE LORD THY
GOD, WHICH BROUGHT THEE FORTH OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT, FROM THE HOUSE OF
BONDAGE;
[Deuteronomy 8:15] WHO LED THEE THROUGH THAT GREAT AND TERRIBLE WILDERNESS,
WHEREIN WERE FIERY SERPENTS, AND SCORPIONS, AND DROUGHT, WHERE THERE WAS NO
WATER; WHO BROUGHT THEE FORTH WATER OUT OF THE ROCK OF FLINT;
[Deuteronomy 8:16] WHO FED THEE IN THE WILDERNESS WITH MANNA, WHICH THY FATHERS
KNEW NOT, THAT HE MIGHT HUMBLE THEE, AND THAT HE MIGHT PROVE THEE, TO DO THEE
GOOD AT THY LATTER END;
[Deuteronomy 8:17] AND THOU SAY IN THINE HEART, MY POWER AND THE MIGHT OF MINE
HAND HATH GOTTEN ME THIS WEALTH.
People who well off , healthy, and
wealthy etc are more liable to be lead astray by temptation. Many of us
unfortunately know this from our own life experiences. We are warned to fear God
at all times, to take nothing for granted, to be thankful for what we have and
realize that it can all be taken away from us. If we sin this is what may well
happen. It does not happen every time and not to everyone, or so it would seem.
This is deceptive. All good deeds are rewarded and all sin punished. We are just
not always aware of the how and why and the relative balances and checks that
come into play.
[Deuteronomy 8:18] BUT THOU SHALT REMEMBER THE LORD THY GOD: FOR IT IS HE THAT
GIVETH THEE POWER TO GET WEALTH, THAT HE MAY ESTABLISH HIS COVENANT WHICH HE
SWARE UNTO THY FATHERS, AS IT IS THIS DAY.
WEALTH. In Hebrew Hail (or "chayil").
"Chayil"
which may also be transcribed as "hail" for example as pronounced in Yemenite
and Eastern Hebrew. This word "hail" in Hebrew means "strength" and it also can
mean "soldier". The English word "hale" was also once written as "hail" and
connotes "strength" as in the expression "Hale and hearty". In addition in Old
English this very same word "hale" or "hail" could too mean "soldier". We thus
find the same word pronounced almost the very same way having the very same TWO
meanings in both Hebrew and Old English.
This word may be also understood to mean "the ability to do things".
God vies us the ability to do, to work, and to fulfill our potentialities.
[Deuteronomy 8:19] AND IT SHALL BE, IF THOU DO AT ALL FORGET THE LORD THY GOD,
AND WALK AFTER OTHER GODS, AND SERVE THEM, AND WORSHIP THEM, I TESTIFY AGAINST
YOU THIS DAY THAT YE SHALL SURELY PERISH.
[Deuteronomy 8:20] AS THE NATIONS WHICH THE LORD DESTROYETH BEFORE YOUR FACE, SO
SHALL YE PERISH; BECAUSE YE WOULD NOT BE OBEDIENT UNTO THE VOICE OF THE LORD
YOUR GOD.
[Deuteronomy 9:1] HEAR, O ISRAEL: THOU ART TO PASS OVER JORDAN THIS DAY, TO GO
IN TO POSSESS NATIONS GREATER AND MIGHTIER THAN THYSELF, CITIES GREAT AND FENCED
UP TO HEAVEN,
[Deuteronomy 9:2] A PEOPLE GREAT AND TALL, THE CHILDREN OF THE ANAKIMS, WHOM
THOU KNOWEST, AND OF WHOM THOU HAST HEARD SAY, WHO CAN STAND BEFORE THE CHILDREN
OF ANAK!
[Deuteronomy 9:3] UNDERSTAND THEREFORE THIS DAY, THAT THE LORD THY GOD IS HE
WHICH GOETH OVER BEFORE THEE; AS A CONSUMING FIRE HE SHALL DESTROY THEM, AND
HE SHALL BRING THEM DOWN BEFORE THY FACE: SO SHALT THOU DRIVE THEM OUT, AND
DESTROY THEM QUICKLY, AS THE LORD HATH SAID UNTO THEE.
s.3
[Deuteronomy 9:4] SPEAK NOT THOU IN THINE HEART, AFTER THAT THE LORD THY GOD
HATH CAST THEM OUT FROM BEFORE THEE, SAYING, FOR MY RIGHTEOUSNESS THE LORD HATH
BROUGHT ME IN TO POSSESS THIS LAND: BUT FOR THE WICKEDNESS OF THESE NATIONS THE
LORD DOTH DRIVE THEM OUT FROM BEFORE THEE.
The peoples the Israelites were driving
out were wicked nations.
So too the Amerindians and Aborigines of Australia were not always the most
moral of beings. There is tendency to romanticize these "noble savages" but on
the whole they were worse than the Anglos who replaced them. What was done to
them they would have done to others if they could have and in some cases had
already done so. The Maoris in New Zealand came from Polynesia and had
completely exterminated another race (the Mori) who had been there before them.
[Deuteronomy 9:5] NOT FOR THY RIGHTEOUSNESS, OR FOR THE UPRIGHTNESS OF THINE
HEART, DOST THOU GO TO POSSESS THEIR LAND: BUT FOR THE WICKEDNESS OF THESE
NATIONS THE LORD THY GOD DOTH DRIVE THEM OUT FROM BEFORE THEE, AND THAT HE MAY
PERFORM THE WORD WHICH THE LORD SWARE UNTO THY FATHERS, ABRAHAM, ISAAC, AND
JACOB.
God made a Promise to our forefathers.
The Almighty has a kind of obligation towards us because of our Israelite
ancestors. If we are not worthy this obligation may not be fulfilled in our
lifetime but eventually it will be. There is a chance for our descendants.
[Deuteronomy 9:6] UNDERSTAND THEREFORE, THAT THE LORD THY GOD GIVETH THEE NOT
THIS GOOD LAND TO POSSESS IT FOR THY RIGHTEOUSNESS; FOR THOU ART A STIFFNECKED
PEOPLE.
[Deuteronomy 9:7] REMEMBER, AND FORGET NOT, HOW THOU PROVOKEDST THE LORD THY GOD
TO WRATH IN THE WILDERNESS: FROM THE DAY THAT THOU DIDST DEPART OUT OF THE LAND
OF EGYPT, UNTIL YE CAME UNTO THIS PLACE, YE HAVE BEEN REBELLIOUS AGAINST THE
LORD.
[Deuteronomy 9:8] ALSO IN HOREB YE PROVOKED THE LORD TO WRATH, SO THAT THE LORD
WAS ANGRY WITH YOU TO HAVE DESTROYED YOU.
[Deuteronomy 9:9] WHEN I WAS GONE UP INTO THE MOUNT TO RECEIVE THE TABLES OF
STONE, EVEN THE TABLES OF THE COVENANT WHICH THE LORD MADE WITH YOU, THEN I
ABODE IN THE MOUNT FORTY DAYS AND FORTY NIGHTS, I NEITHER DID EAT BREAD NOR
DRINK WATER:
[Deuteronomy 9:10] AND THE LORD DELIVERED UNTO ME TWO TABLES OF STONE WRITTEN
WITH THE FINGER OF GOD; AND ON THEM WAS WRITTEN ACCORDING TO ALL THE WORDS,
WHICH THE LORD SPAKE WITH YOU IN THE MOUNT OUT OF THE MIDST OF THE FIRE IN THE
DAY OF THE ASSEMBLY.
[Deuteronomy 9:11] AND IT CAME TO PASS AT THE END OF FORTY DAYS AND FORTY
NIGHTS, THAT THE LORD GAVE ME THE TWO TABLES OF STONE, EVEN THE TABLES OF THE
COVENANT.
[Deuteronomy 9:12] AND THE LORD SAID UNTO ME, ARISE, GET THEE DOWN QUICKLY FROM
HENCE; FOR THY PEOPLE WHICH THOU HAST BROUGHT FORTH OUT OF EGYPT HAVE CORRUPTED
THEMSELVES; THEY ARE QUICKLY TURNED ASIDE OUT OF THE WAY WHICH I COMMANDED THEM;
THEY HAVE MADE THEM A MOLTEN IMAGE.
[Deuteronomy 9:13] FURTHERMORE THE LORD SPAKE UNTO ME, SAYING, I HAVE SEEN THIS
PEOPLE, AND, BEHOLD, IT IS A STIFFNECKED PEOPLE:
[Deuteronomy 9:14] LET ME ALONE, THAT I MAY DESTROY THEM, AND BLOT OUT THEIR
NAME FROM UNDER HEAVEN: AND I WILL MAKE OF THEE A NATION MIGHTIER AND GREATER
THAN THEY.
[Deuteronomy 9:15] SO I TURNED AND CAME DOWN FROM THE MOUNT, AND THE MOUNT
BURNED WITH FIRE: AND THE TWO TABLES OF THE COVENANT WERE IN MY TWO HANDS.
[Deuteronomy 9:16] AND I LOOKED, AND, BEHOLD, YE HAD SINNED AGAINST THE LORD
YOUR GOD, AND HAD MADE YOU A MOLTEN CALF: YE HAD TURNED ASIDE QUICKLY OUT OF THE
WAY WHICH THE LORD HAD COMMANDED YOU.
[Deuteronomy 9:17] AND I TOOK THE TWO TABLES, AND CAST THEM OUT OF MY TWO HANDS,
AND BRAKE THEM BEFORE YOUR EYES.
[Deuteronomy 9:18] AND I FELL DOWN BEFORE THE LORD, AS AT THE FIRST, FORTY DAYS
AND FORTY NIGHTS: I DID NEITHER EAT BREAD, NOR DRINK WATER, BECAUSE OF ALL YOUR
SINS WHICH YE SINNED, IN DOING WICKEDLY IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD, TO PROVOKE HIM
TO ANGER.
[Deuteronomy 9:19] FOR I WAS AFRAID OF THE ANGER AND HOT DISPLEASURE, WHEREWITH
THE LORD WAS WROTH AGAINST YOU TO DESTROY YOU. BUT THE LORD HEARKENED UNTO ME AT
THAT TIME ALSO.
[Deuteronomy 9:20] AND THE LORD WAS VERY ANGRY WITH AARON TO HAVE DESTROYED HIM:
AND I PRAYED FOR AARON ALSO THE SAME TIME.
[Deuteronomy 9:21] AND I TOOK YOUR SIN, THE CALF WHICH YE HAD MADE, AND BURNT IT
WITH FIRE, AND STAMPED IT, AND GROUND IT VERY SMALL, EVEN UNTIL IT WAS AS SMALL
AS DUST: AND I CAST THE DUST THEREOF INTO THE BROOK THAT DESCENDED OUT OF THE
MOUNT.
[Deuteronomy 9:22] AND AT TABERAH, AND AT MASSAH, AND AT KIBROTH-HATTAAVAH, YE
PROVOKED THE LORD TO WRATH.
[Deuteronomy 9:23] LIKEWISE WHEN THE LORD SENT YOU FROM KADESHBARNEA, SAYING, GO
UP AND POSSESS THE LAND WHICH I HAVE GIVEN YOU; THEN YE REBELLED AGAINST THE
COMMANDMENT OF THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND YE BELIEVED HIM NOT, NOR HEARKENED TO HIS
VOICE.
[Deuteronomy 9:24] YE HAVE BEEN REBELLIOUS AGAINST THE LORD FROM THE DAY THAT I
KNEW YOU.
[Deuteronomy 9:25] THUS I FELL DOWN BEFORE THE LORD FORTY DAYS AND FORTY NIGHTS,
AS I FELL DOWN AT THE FIRST; BECAUSE THE LORD HAD SAID HE WOULD DESTROY YOU.
[Deuteronomy 9:26] I PRAYED THEREFORE UNTO THE LORD, AND SAID, O LORD GOD,
DESTROY NOT THY PEOPLE AND THINE INHERITANCE, WHICH THOU HAST REDEEMED THROUGH
THY GREATNESS, WHICH THOU HAST BROUGHT FORTH OUT OF EGYPT WITH A MIGHTY
HAND.
[Deuteronomy 9:27] REMEMBER THY SERVANTS, ABRAHAM, ISAAC, AND JACOB; LOOK NOT
UNTO THE STUBBORNNESS OF THIS PEOPLE, NOR TO THEIR WICKEDNESS, NOR TO THEIR SIN:
[Deuteronomy 9:28] LEST THE LAND WHENCE THOU BROUGHTEST US OUT SAY, BECAUSE THE
LORD WAS NOT ABLE TO BRING THEM INTO THE LAND WHICH HE PROMISED THEM, AND
BECAUSE HE HATED THEM, HE HATH BROUGHT THEM OUT TO SLAY THEM IN THE
WILDERNESS.
[Deuteronomy 9:29] YET THEY ARE THY PEOPLE AND THINE INHERITANCE, WHICH THOU
BROUGHTEST OUT BY THY MIGHTY POWER AND BY THY STRETCHED OUT ARM.
s.4
[Deuteronomy 10:1] AT THAT TIME THE LORD SAID UNTO ME, HEW THEE TWO TABLES OF
STONE LIKE UNTO THE FIRST, AND COME UP UNTO ME INTO THE MOUNT, AND MAKE THEE AN
ARK OF WOOD.
[Deuteronomy 10:2] AND I WILL WRITE ON THE TABLES THE WORDS THAT WERE IN THE
FIRST TABLES WHICH THOU BRAKEST, AND THOU SHALT PUT THEM IN THE ARK.
[Deuteronomy 10:3] AND I MADE AN ARK OF SHITTIM WOOD, AND HEWED TWO TABLES OF
STONE LIKE UNTO THE FIRST, AND WENT UP INTO THE MOUNT, HAVING THE TWO TABLES IN
MINE HAND.
The word for Ark in Hebrew is Aron. There were two different arks. Another ark
was put together later.
[Deuteronomy 10:4] AND HE WROTE ON THE TABLES, ACCORDING TO THE FIRST WRITING,
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, WHICH THE LORD SPAKE UNTO YOU IN THE MOUNT OUT OF THE
MIDST OF THE FIRE IN THE DAY OF THE ASSEMBLY: AND THE LORD GAVE THEM UNTO
ME.
[Deuteronomy 10:5] AND I TURNED MYSELF AND CAME DOWN FROM THE MOUNT, AND PUT THE
TABLES IN THE ARK WHICH I HAD MADE; AND THERE THEY BE, AS THE LORD COMMANDED
ME.
[Deuteronomy 10:6] AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL TOOK THEIR JOURNEY FROM BEEROTH OF
THE CHILDREN OF JAAKAN TO MOSERA: THERE AARON DIED, AND THERE HE WAS BURIED;
AND ELEAZAR HIS SON MINISTERED IN THE PRIEST'S OFFICE IN HIS STEAD.
[Deuteronomy 10:7] FROM THENCE THEY JOURNEYED UNTO GUDGODAH; AND FROM GUDGODAH
TO JOTBATH, A LAND OF RIVERS OF WATERS.
[Deuteronomy 10:8] AT THAT TIME THE LORD SEPARATED THE TRIBE OF LEVI, TO BEAR
THE ARK OF THE COVENANT OF THE LORD, TO STAND BEFORE THE LORD TO MINISTER UNTO
HIM, AND TO BLESS IN HIS NAME, UNTO THIS DAY.
[Deuteronomy 10:9] WHEREFORE LEVI HATH NO PART NOR INHERITANCE WITH HIS
BRETHREN; THE LORD IS HIS INHERITANCE, ACCORDING AS THE LORD THY GOD PROMISED
HIM.
[Deuteronomy 10:10] AND I STAYED IN THE MOUNT, ACCORDING TO THE FIRST TIME,
FORTY DAYS AND FORTY NIGHTS; AND THE LORD HEARKENED UNTO ME AT THAT TIME ALSO,
AND THE LORD WOULD NOT DESTROY THEE.
[Deuteronomy 10:11] AND THE LORD SAID UNTO ME, ARISE, TAKE THY JOURNEY BEFORE
THE PEOPLE, THAT THEY MAY GO IN AND POSSESS THE LAND, WHICH I SWARE UNTO THEIR
FATHERS TO GIVE UNTO THEM.
s.5
[Deuteronomy 10:12] AND NOW, ISRAEL, WHAT DOTH THE LORD THY GOD REQUIRE OF THEE,
BUT TO FEAR THE LORD THY GOD, TO WALK IN ALL HIS WAYS, AND TO LOVE HIM, AND TO
SERVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART AND WITH ALL THY SOUL,
[Deuteronomy 10:13] TO KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD, AND HIS STATUTES,
WHICH I COMMAND THEE THIS DAY FOR THY GOOD?
[Deuteronomy 10:14] BEHOLD, THE HEAVEN AND THE HEAVEN OF HEAVENS IS THE LORD'S
THY GOD, THE EARTH ALSO, WITH ALL THAT THEREIN IS.
[Deuteronomy 10:15] ONLY THE LORD HAD A DELIGHT IN THY FATHERS TO LOVE THEM, AND
HE CHOSE THEIR SEED AFTER THEM, EVEN YOU ABOVE ALL PEOPLE, AS IT IS THIS DAY.
[Deuteronomy 10:16] CIRCUMCISE THEREFORE THE FORESKIN OF YOUR HEART, AND BE NO
MORE STIFFNECKED.
[Deuteronomy 10:17] FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS GOD OF GODS, AND LORD OF LORDS, A
GREAT GOD, A MIGHTY, AND A TERRIBLE, WHICH REGARDETH NOT PERSONS, NOR TAKETH
REWARD:
[Deuteronomy 10:18] HE DOTH EXECUTE THE JUDGMENT OF THE FATHERLESS AND WIDOW,
AND LOVETH THE STRANGER, IN GIVING HIM FOOD AND RAIMENT.
THE STRANGER. Here means the resident
alien. Foreigners who come to live amongst us and who respect our laws and
values and who wish to identify with us should be respected.
[Deuteronomy 10:19] LOVE YE THEREFORE THE STRANGER: FOR YE WERE STRANGERS IN THE
LAND OF EGYPT.
A lot of us at some stage in our lives
have suffered. There may have been periods during our school days, or work
places, or in any one of other circumstances. This suffering may have taken the
form of social isolation or deprivation, marriage difficulties, problems with
children, financial stress, economic crises and emotional traumas, etc.
We need to take those experiences we went through and apply them to helping
others, to have empathy with others.
[Deuteronomy 10:20] THOU SHALT FEAR THE LORD THY GOD; HIM SHALT THOU SERVE, AND
TO HIM SHALT THOU CLEAVE, AND SWEAR BY HIS NAME.
[Deuteronomy 10:21] HE IS THY PRAISE, AND HE IS THY GOD, THAT HATH DONE FOR THEE
THESE GREAT AND TERRIBLE THINGS, WHICH THINE EYES HAVE SEEN.
[Deuteronomy 10:22] THY FATHERS WENT DOWN INTO EGYPT WITH THREESCORE AND TEN
PERSONS; AND NOW THE LORD THY GOD HATH MADE THEE AS THE STARS OF HEAVEN FOR
MULTITUDE.
s.6
[Deuteronomy 11:1] THEREFORE THOU SHALT LOVE THE LORD THY GOD, AND KEEP HIS
CHARGE, AND HIS STATUTES, AND HIS JUDGMENTS, AND HIS COMMANDMENTS, ALWAYS.
[Deuteronomy 11:2] AND KNOW YE THIS DAY: FOR I SPEAK NOT WITH YOUR CHILDREN
WHICH HAVE NOT KNOWN, AND WHICH HAVE NOT SEEN THE CHASTISEMENT OF THE LORD
YOUR GOD, HIS GREATNESS, HIS MIGHTY HAND, AND HIS STRETCHED OUT
ARM,
[Deuteronomy 11:3] AND HIS MIRACLES, AND HIS ACTS, WHICH HE DID IN THE MIDST OF
EGYPT UNTO PHARAOH THE KING OF EGYPT, AND UNTO ALL HIS LAND;
[Deuteronomy 11:4] AND WHAT HE DID UNTO THE ARMY OF EGYPT, UNTO THEIR HORSES,
AND TO THEIR CHARIOTS; HOW HE MADE THE WATER OF THE RED SEA TO OVERFLOW THEM AS
THEY PURSUED AFTER YOU, AND HOW THE LORD HATH DESTROYED THEM UNTO THIS
DAY;
[Deuteronomy 11:5] AND WHAT HE DID UNTO YOU IN THE WILDERNESS, UNTIL YE CAME
INTO THIS PLACE;
[Deuteronomy 11:6] AND WHAT HE DID UNTO DATHAN AND ABIRAM, THE SONS OF ELIAB,
THE SON OF REUBEN: HOW THE EARTH OPENED HER MOUTH, AND SWALLOWED THEM UP, AND
THEIR HOUSEHOLDS, AND THEIR TENTS, AND ALL THE SUBSTANCE THAT WAS IN THEIR
POSSESSION, IN THE MIDST OF ALL ISRAEL:
[Deuteronomy 11:7] BUT YOUR EYES HAVE SEEN ALL THE GREAT ACTS OF THE LORD WHICH
HE DID.
[Deuteronomy 11:8] THEREFORE SHALL YE KEEP ALL THE COMMANDMENTS WHICH I COMMAND
YOU THIS DAY, THAT YE MAY BE STRONG, AND GO IN AND POSSESS THE LAND, WHITHER YE
GO TO POSSESS IT;
[Deuteronomy 11:9] AND THAT YE MAY PROLONG YOUR DAYS IN THE LAND, WHICH THE LORD
SWARE UNTO YOUR FATHERS TO GIVE UNTO THEM AND TO THEIR SEED, A LAND THAT FLOWETH
WITH MILK AND HONEY.
s.7
[Deuteronomy 11:10] FOR THE LAND, WHITHER THOU GOEST IN TO POSSESS IT, IS NOT AS
THE LAND OF EGYPT, FROM WHENCE YE CAME OUT, WHERE THOU SOWEDST THY SEED, AND
WATEREDST IT WITH THY FOOT, AS A GARDEN OF HERBS:
[Deuteronomy 11:11] BUT THE LAND, WHITHER YE GO TO POSSESS IT, IS A LAND OF
HILLS AND VALLEYS, AND DRINKETH WATER OF THE RAIN OF HEAVEN:
[Deuteronomy 11:12] A LAND WHICH THE LORD THY GOD CARETH FOR: THE EYES OF THE
LORD THY GOD ARE ALWAYS UPON IT, FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR EVEN UNTO THE
END OF THE YEAR.
The Divine Presence is present
everywhere wherever we may be. Nevertheless in the Land of Israel the Divine
Presence i.e. Divine Providence (God watching over us) is much more apparent
and real than it is elsewhere.
[Deuteronomy 11:13] AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS, IF YE SHALL HEARKEN DILIGENTLY
UNTO MY COMMANDMENTS WHICH I COMMAND YOU THIS DAY, TO LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD,
AND TO SERVE HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL,
[Deuteronomy 11:14] THAT I WILL GIVE YOU THE RAIN OF YOUR LAND IN HIS DUE
SEASON, THE FIRST RAIN AND THE LATTER RAIN, THAT THOU MAYEST GATHER IN THY CORN,
AND THY WINE, AND THINE OIL.
[Deuteronomy 11:15] AND I WILL SEND GRASS IN THY FIELDS FOR THY CATTLE, THAT
THOU MAYEST EAT AND BE FULL.
[Deuteronomy 11:16] TAKE HEED TO YOURSELVES, THAT YOUR HEART BE NOT DECEIVED,
AND YE TURN ASIDE, AND SERVE OTHER GODS, AND WORSHIP THEM;
[Deuteronomy 11:17] AND THEN THE LORD'S WRATH BE KINDLED AGAINST YOU, AND HE
SHUT UP THE HEAVEN, THAT THERE BE NO RAIN, AND THAT THE LAND YIELD NOT HER
FRUIT; AND LEST YE PERISH QUICKLY FROM OFF THE GOOD LAND WHICH THE LORD GIVETH
YOU.
[Deuteronomy 11:18] THEREFORE SHALL YE LAY UP THESE MY WORDS IN YOUR HEART AND
IN YOUR SOUL, AND BIND THEM FOR A SIGN UPON YOUR HAND, THAT THEY MAY BE AS
FRONTLETS BETWEEN YOUR EYES.
[Deuteronomy 11:19] AND YE SHALL TEACH THEM YOUR CHILDREN, SPEAKING OF THEM WHEN
THOU SITTEST IN THINE HOUSE, AND WHEN THOU WALKEST BY THE WAY, WHEN THOU LIEST
DOWN, AND WHEN THOU RISEST UP.
[Deuteronomy 11:20] AND THOU SHALT WRITE THEM UPON THE DOOR POSTS OF THINE
HOUSE, AND UPON THY GATES:
[Deuteronomy 11:21] THAT YOUR DAYS MAY BE MULTIPLIED, AND THE DAYS OF YOUR
CHILDREN, IN THE LAND WHICH THE LORD SWARE UNTO YOUR FATHERS TO GIVE THEM, AS
THE DAYS OF HEAVEN UPON THE EARTH.
[Deuteronomy 11:22] FOR IF YE SHALL DILIGENTLY KEEP ALL THESE COMMANDMENTS WHICH
I COMMAND YOU, TO DO THEM, TO LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD, TO WALK IN ALL HIS WAYS,
AND TO CLEAVE UNTO HIM;
[Deuteronomy 11:23] THEN WILL THE LORD DRIVE OUT ALL THESE NATIONS FROM BEFORE
YOU, AND YE SHALL POSSESS GREATER NATIONS AND MIGHTIER THAN YOURSELVES.
[Deuteronomy 11:24] EVERY PLACE WHEREON THE SOLES OF YOUR FEET SHALL TREAD SHALL
BE YOURS: FROM THE WILDERNESS AND LEBANON, FROM THE RIVER, THE RIVER EUPHRATES,
EVEN UNTO THE UTTERMOST SEA SHALL YOUR COAST BE.
These are the borders of the Promised
Land: From the Nile to the Euphrates including parts of what are now Egypt,
Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and Iraq and encompassing all of Cyprus, Syria,
Lebanon, Jordan, Judah, Samaria, and the present State of Israel.

[Deuteronomy 11:25] THERE SHALL NO MAN BE ABLE TO STAND BEFORE YOU:
FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD SHALL LAY THE FEAR OF YOU AND THE DREAD OF YOU UPON ALL
THE LAND THAT YE SHALL TREAD UPON, AS HE HATH SAID UNTO YOU.
God will give us land and wealth and
also spiritual instincts, and natural intelligence along with heroic vigor so
that we may be able to defeat our enemies and conquer the regions promised to
us.

(Isaiah) 49:14-51:3

The Isles are called upon
to listen to God (49:1). Israel is the servant of God (49:3). Israel will raise
up the Tribes of Jacob and restore the preserved of Israel, to be an
enlightening influence on the Gentiles unto the geographical extremities of the
earth (49:6). God calls to the Jews who were despised ands say HE will save them
(49:7). The Ten Tribes will be made into a Brit-Am or covenant of peoples. They
will settle and civilize wasted heritages (49:8) and free the prisoners while
converging together along their paths of migration (49:9).
Judah will be consoled (49:13-16). Much
of the troubles of Judah were cause by her own wayward sons (49:17). Judah will
be compensated greatly (49:18-20).
When the Lost Ten Tribes return Judah
will be reticent about receiving them. The Jews will ask where were all those
now identified as Israel when the Jews needed help and were alone? According to
the Midrash
(Pesikta
Rabati
32;10) this reaction of the Jews will indeed take place WHEN THEY SEE THE THREE
EXILES OF THE LOST TEN TRIBES RETURNING! (49:21). Judah will be elevated and her
former oppressors will come bowing down to her (49:22-26).
Judah has not been disowned. Judah was
not divorced and is still obligated by the Law. Jeremiah spoke of the Lost Ten
Tribes being divorced (Jeremiah 3:8). Even so in the Last Days God will say that
HE never really divorced either Judah or Israel. They shall always belong to the
Almighty and each in their own way had their task to
fulfil
(50:1). In the same way that God punishes or afflicts so too can He bestow
blessings. Do good and ultimately good will come unto you some how or other.
The good will come in the form you yourself would prefer if you knew all the
options and were aware of all your culpableness (50:2).
