Visit

(IsraelNN.com) Jerusalem police are preparing the visit of a large number of
rabbis and Land of Israel activists to the Temple Mount, Judaism's holiest site,
Tuesday.
The mass ascent called for prayers at the site "for the annulment of the wicked
plans to divide Jerusalem and surrender the Temple Mount to foreigners and
enemies."
Public Security Minister Avi Dichter has ordered police to be strict about
preventing Jewish prayer at the site. Silent moving of the lips is illegal for
Jews on the Temple Mount, according to Dichter.

Jerusalem police are preparing to prevent religious Zionist and settler rabbis
from holding prayers on the Temple Mount Tuesday morning.
The rabbis used posters to exhort supporters to pray at the mount "for the
annulment of the wicked plans for the division of Jerusalem and the surrender
and abandonment of the Temple Mount to the hands of foreigners and adversaries."
The planned protest comes shortly after Public Security Minister Avi Dichter
made it clear that Jews are not allowed to pray in any overt manner on the
Temple Mount, even including merely moving their lips in prayer.
The rabbis are expected to be allowed entry to the Temple Mount as long as they
do not pray there.

(IsraelNN.com) The Yesha Rabbis Council has announced a series of protests to
coincide with the visit of US President George W. Bush to Israel from January
9-1.
The Council called on Jews to visit the Temple Mount on Tuesday morning, January
8, and to "pray for the cancellation of evil plans." Earlier this week, Minister
for Internal Security Avi Dichter issued a ban on Jewish prayer at the site,
calling it a "provocation" and saying individual prayers would "almost certainly
lead to bloodshed."
Jewish groups have long been forbidden from conducting "inflammatory" public
prayer services on the Temple Mount, but individual prayers have been permitted.

An Open Letter and Appeal to All Who
Stand Together with the Land and People of Israel, and Who Cherish the G-d of
Israel and His Promise of Redemption for All Mankind
I urge each and every true friend of Israel to personally fulfill the verse "For
Zion's sake I will not hold my peace, and for the sake of Jerusalem, I will not
be still..." (Isaiah 62:1). Do not be silent, do not be still! Make your voices
heard in the clearest possible manner. Look deeply into your hearts, seek
guidance from our Creator, and decide upon your course of action - a course that
will allow you the merit of participating in G-d's unfolding plan of redemption
for all mankind. A course of action that will make it clear in the most
unequivocal terms, to Israel's enemies - from within and without - that you
stand for the honor of the G-d of Israel.

2. JP: Bush Says 'Palestinian right of
return' must be discussed

Visiting US President George Bush called on Israel to remove "illegal outposts"
in the West Bank, saying that "they simply ought to go" during an evening press
conference shared by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Wednesday.

At the same time Bush called for all issues to be addressed during negotiations
between Israel and the Palestinians - including the Palestinian 'right of
return.'
Regarding an Israeli-Palestinian two-state solution, the US president reiterated
that although the US had a vital role in assisting in negotiations, "people must
understand that America cannot dictate the terms of the [Palestinian] state."
Bush said he believes Israeli and Palestinian leaders have willingness and
desire to create a Palestinian state.
The president's first question to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas
when they meet Thursday would be, "What are you going to do about" the rockets.
He said that the firing of rockets from Palestinian territory is not in Abbas's
interest.
Peace meant concessions from both sides, Bush insisted. He said that Arab states
must "support the Palestinians as they make tough choices."
Bush added that he was "very hopeful" he could achieve an agreement. He said
this is a "historic moment, a historic opportunity" to make peace, and both
sides have the willingness and desire to create a Palestinian state. Olmert
pledged to implement all of Israel's obligations under the "road map" plan.
The US president also affirmed western concerns that Iran is a threat to world
peace, despite the release of his country's National Intelligence Estimate
report in November.
"The NIE report may have sent a signal to some that the US doesn't think that
Iran is a threat. I have said that Iran was a threat, Iran is a threat and Iran
will be a threat if the international community doesn't come together to prevent
it from getting a nuclear weapon," Bush said shortly after a meeting with Olmert.
He said that sanctions would force the Iranian people to choose whether to back
a nuclear program.
Olmert, who spoke before Bush, said he was "encouraged and strengthened" by the
American position on Iran. Despite the US intelligence report, Israel is
convinced that Iran continues to seek nuclear weapons.
Bush's visit was very timely and an important way to encourage the process Bush
and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice started at Annapolis, the prime minister
said.
Olmert claimed that the Israelis and Palestinians were "very serious" in trying
to move forward to realize the vision of a two state solution.
"The Israeli team is committed to carrying on negotiations to deal with the with
core issues to bring about agreements which will have to be implemented," he
added.
Olmert thanked the US for the 30-billion-dollar aid package, saying the
assistance was "remarkable" and "very helpful for the future of the state of
Israel."
Olmert also related to Wednesday's Kassam attacks on the western Negev.
"Israel will not tolerate vicious attacks on innocent civilians living in our
cities?we won't hesitate to take all the necessary measure to stop it," he said.
The prime minister went on to say that there would be no peace until terror is
stopped, emphasizing that terror must be stopped everywhere, and that "Gaza must
be part of the package."
3. Standard of living in UK better than
in USA
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/global/main.jhtml?xml=/global/2008/01/09/noindex/bcnukliving107.xml
By Lucy Cockcroft
For the first time in more than a century the standard of living in Britain is
higher than in America, according to a new report.
Analysts at the respected Oxford Economics consultancy say that increasing
incomes, free healthcare and longer holidays make the average Briton better-off
than his or her US counterpart.
The GDP per head in the UK is expected to exceed that of the USA in 2008
They predict that gross domestic product (GDP) per head in the UK, an indicator
of average incomes, will be ?23,500 in 2008, compared with ?23,250 in America,
reflecting the strength of the pound against the dollar and the steady growth of
the British economy.
Adrian Cooper, managing director of Oxford Economics, said: "The past 15 years
have seen a dramatic change in the UK's economic performance and its position in
the world economy.
"No longer are we the 'sick man of Europe'. Indeed, our calculations suggest
that UK living standards are now a match for those of the US.
"The UK has been catching up steadily with living standards in the US since
2001, so it is a well-established trend rather than simply the result of
currency fluctuations."
Back in the early 1990s Britain's GDP per capita was 34 per cent below that in
America, 33 per cent less than in Germany and 26 per cent lower than in France.
Now, average incomes are not only above those in America but they are more than
8 per cent higher than in France where it is 21,700 pound and Germany,
with a predicted 21,665 pound.
The British financial services boom and soaring house prices have led to an
uninterrupted expansion, credited with boosting the UK's strength. And in
contrast America and many European countries slid into recession in the early
part of this decade.
However the average British person may not feel richer than their US cousins as
goods and services there are often vastly cheaper. So, despite earning less, the
average American can buy more.
The report authors also warn that a significant fall in the pound against other
currencies could push Britain back down the ladder.
Citigroup, the most accurate forecaster of Britain's economy last year, predicts
the slowest rise in consumer spending this year since 1992.
Michael Saunders, Citigroup's UK economist, said: "After the credit-fuelled boom
in domestic demand and asset prices, the UK economy now faces a hangover, with
slowing credit growth, falling property prices and tightening lending
standards."
