Abbas Tells Speaker Itzik He Will Not Honor Terrorists

(IsraelNN.com) Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik (Kadima) said that Palestinian
Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas told her in a telephone conversation that
he is backing down on his plan to honor five female terrorists, including one
who directed the suicide terrorist who blew up the Sbarro restaurant in
Jerusalem in 2001.

If reports that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas plans to present
two female terrorists with a medal of honor are found to be true, it will be a
grave development, the consequences of which Israel will need to consider,
senior government officials told Israel Radio on Wednesday.
Suicide bombing in downtown Jerusalem, 2001. Ahlam Tamimi, who drove the suicide
bomber to the restaurant, is slated to receive a medal sanctioned by PA
President Mahmoud Abbas.
However, the unnamed officials said the accuracy of the reports had not yet been
confirmed.
The radio station reported earlier in the day that the Al Kuds Mark of Honor,
the PLO's highest medal, would be given to two female terrorists who helped kill
Israelis.
The two were Ahlam Tamimi, a Hamas affiliate serving a life sentence for driving
the suicide bomber who exploded himself in the Sbarro restaurant in Jerusalem,
killing at least half a dozen people, and Amra Muna, who seduced Ophir Rahum
over the Internet and then lured him to Ramallah where he was murdered.
Conferring the Al Kuds Mark of Honor is decided at the discretion of the
Palestinian Authority's president, and he alone has the final say when choosing
the Palestinians to be honored with the medal.
Palestinian Minister for Prisoner Affairs Ashraf el Ajami told Israel Radio that
his ministry gave PA President Mahmoud Abbas a comprehensive list of prisoners
and his office chose the nominees from this list.
Ajami refused to confirm that the medal would be given to Tamimi and Muna,
saying that he didn't want to "ruin the surprise" for the families attending the
ceremony scheduled for Thursday.
Abbas himself was en route to Russia and his staff refused to comment on the
report.
Likud MK Gideon Sa'ar said the report was "troubling and severe" news, but added
that if the report were true, it would continue a recent history of doublespeak
from Abbas, which, Sa'ar said, presented different Palestinian intentions and
narratives when speaking to Arab crowds and when addressing Western diplomats.
Sa'ar mentioned a recent article where Abbas - Israel's Palestinian peace
partner - hinted that a return to armed struggle might be in the benefit of the
Palestinian
cause.

READY FOR PASSOVER!
TOURIST SITES AROUND THE COUNTRY ARE READY TO WELCOME THOUSANDS OF TOURISTS
AND VISITORS
THE GROWTH CONTINUES:
267,000 TOURISTS VISITED ISRAEL IN 2008; AN INCREASE OF 36%
An increase of 36% was recorded in the numbers of incoming tourists visiting
Israel in March 2008, with 267,000 tourists (compared to 196,000 in March
2007). This is a similar number to those arriving in 2000, during Israel's
record tourism year. In the months January - March 2008, over 648,000
tourists visited Israel, an increase of 44% over the same period in 2007 and
a 34% increase over 2006. The pace of growth is consistent with the Ministry
of Tourism's forecast for 2008 of 2.8 million tourists.
The tourist sites, attractions and hotels are ready to welcome the hundreds
of thousands of tourists and visitors expected over the holiday period
(80,000 incoming tourists are expected - an increase of 30% compared to last
year - with over 80% anticipated hotel occupancy). A series of
investigations was carried out by representatives of the Ministry of Tourism
in the pre-Passover period in the framework of its special preparations for
the Passover holiday, in those cities and resorts where large numbers of
tourists are expected. These checks placed particular emphasis on
cleanliness, maintenance and sufficient manpower, in particular in
Jerusalem, Eilat and around the Sea of Galilee.
The tourist information offices in Eilat, Jerusalem, Ben Gurion Airport and
Nazareth will operate throughout the holiday period as normal.
The Ministry of Tourism has renovated many tourist sites over recent months
and invites the public to visit during the holiday. These include the Agamon
Lake in the Hula Valley, with its recently completed circular bicycle path,
shaded seating areas, observation points and improved access. At Snir Park
in the Upper Galilee, another section has been completed including a walking
trail with access to the Snir stream, shaded seating areas and an enlarged
car park. Infrastructure and lighting work at Timna Park has been completed
and the Ein Zivan observation point in the Golan Heights has also been
completed. Infrastructure work in several main streets in Jerusalem has now
finished and the Clock Tower Square in Jaffa, together with its historical
buildings, has been renovated.
Director General of the Ministry of Tourism Shaul Tzemach: "The year 2008
began with an increase in incoming tourism of 44% compared to the first two
months of 2007 and we are working to continue this growth. The Ministry of
Tourism wishes all tourists and visitors a happy and kosher Passover."

Time to "Leave Egypt".
by Steven Shamrak.
I wrote this article 5 years ago. Unfortunately the problem still exists.
Every year Jews celebrate the exodus from Egypt and freedom from slavery. It
took place 3,320 years ago. It was a fundamental event in Jewish history. At the
same time, it symbolizes not just freedom from physical slavery. The Passover
reminds us that internal freedom of mind and spirit are even more significant.
This freedom allows us real freedom of choice.
Jews have nothing to apologise for. We have the right to live in peace on Jewish
land in our own country. We lived in Gallut (exile, slave mentality) for too
long. It is time to say ? "NO more"!
I am ashamed and feel sorry for those Jews who have no self-respect and are
helping enemies to destroy Israel. Why do they hate themselves so much?
I do respect non-Jewish people who do not know and do not care about the
Arab-Israel conflict. They are honest hard working people who have their own
problems and interests. At the same time, there is a danger when opinions are
formed under the influence of selectively presented information, provided by
mainly a press that is biased against Israel. People become attached to the
belief system they have adopted and it is difficult to change it. For Jews the
understanding of the conflict and support for Israel is existential! I would
like to remind all of them:
(1. Israel is on a front line of the war between Arab-Muslim expansionism and
Western democracy. This war has already shifted to America and Europe.
(2. According to the UN's own legal opinion: Judea, Samaria and Gaza do not
belong to any country at the moment. Therefore, it is wrong to call them
'Occupied Territories'. They used to be a part of Jewish land 2000 years ago and
were allocated by the League of Nations for the creation of Eretz-Israel in
1922. There was never an Arab country in Palestine.
(3. So-called Palestinians are Arabs and Muslims who moved to the territories
during the last 130 years, after the Zionist pioneers started to revitalize the
land.
(4. Arabs have no intention of living in peace with Jews. When former president
of Egypt Nasser was asked: Why do you continue to fight Israel after so many
defeats? His answer was: "Because. We need to win only one war!" Please make no
mistake, the Arabs' aim is total destruction of the Jewish state!
(5. Arabs do respect charisma and strong leadership. It is time for Israel and
her government to show it and end terror.
(6. Enemies and so-called friends have never treated Jewish people as equals.
They will never support Israel unconditionally regardless of facts. They do not
care about facts and deliberately distort or falsify them (remember the fake
massacre of Jenin and how much noise they made about it).
(7. After 60 years of wars and terror, it is time to become an Independent
nation with self-respect and be equal among equals. No more double standards!
(8. Israel was created to fulfil a 2000 year-old national inspiration of Jewish
people. Jews have the right to regain control over all Jewish land. The time is
NOW!
