1. First Time Ever: Vatican to Consider Revealing Holocaust Orphans
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/131923
 by Hillel Fendel

(IsraelNN.com) In response to a request by the Yad L'Achim organization, the Vatican says it will consider asking its church members to "reveal to Holocaust orphans their Jewish past and provide them with accurate information concerning their families."

This is the first time that Vatican officials have related to this matter publicly, Yad L'Achim says.

Rabbi Shalom David Lifshitz, founder and chairman of the anti-missionary and anti-assimilation Yad L'Achim organization, wrote to Pope Benedict shortly before his visit to Israel two months ago.  The rabbi asked the pontiff to take action to reveal the "hidden Jewish children" of the Holocaust "if not to the world, then at least to the children themselves.

It is estimated that thousands of Jewish children were left with Christian monasteries or families by their Jewish parents during the Holocaust, in the hope that they would thus survive the war. However, untold hundreds of these children , Yad L'Achim says the number is approximately 2,000 - were never claimed, returned or told of their Jewish background.

A letter from Pope Pius XII to his representative in Paris on November 20, 1946 shows that he ordered Jewish babies that were baptized during the Holocaust not to be returned to their parents. The recipient of the letter, Angelo Roncalli, who was later to become Pope John XXIII, often disobeyed these instructions.

The official Vatican response to Rabbi Lifshitz stated, "The matter of the children of Jewish families during II World War is a very delicate and a very complex one. I know that there has been action taken by the Holy See, but at this moment I cannot be accurate in my information. I assure you that I will try to provide more precise information and see if an appeal like the one you propose could be made [emphasis added]."

The letter is signed by Archbishop Antonio Franco, of the high Vatican rank of Apostolic Nuncio.  Similar letters of support for the cause of locating the Jewish "children" have been sent to Yad L'Achim from the President of France and the monarchs of Britain and Holland.

Rabbi Lifshitz said this week that his organization and the Conference of European Rabbis (CER) have begun working closely on this matter, and that a joint office to deal with it will be established in the coming days.

ERC Director Rabbi Aryeh Goldberg said, "Yad L'Achim tells us that there are more than 1,000 such lost Jews, another 600 in France, and hundreds more in Belgium and Italy. The faster we act, the more names we will be able to find."

2. 'Lost' Jews in Spain find Israel advocacy

In recent years, hundreds of Spanish Catholics have discovered that family customs have roots in hidden Jewish traditions from Inquisition days; many of these new-found 'bnei anousim' [descendants of forced converts] are taking part in efforts to improve Israel's image in Europe

BARCELONA - It's been more than 500 years since the Spanish Inquisition, but it's still not the easiest thing being a Jew in Spain these days, and it's even harder being a Catholic and discovering one day that you have deep, Jewish roots. But this is what is happening to a number of Catholics in the Mediterranean country.

Many descendants of 15th century 'Anousim' or 'Marranos' Jews who were forced to outwardly convert during the Inquisition and camouflage their religious practices are now trying to return to their roots.

In early June, 70 such bnei anousim arrived at the Barcelona Jewish community center for an unprecedented conference intended to enlist their help in advocacy efforts for Israel in Europe. Most participants came from Spain, with some from Portugal and Italy.

3. The Israeli Contribution to its own International Isolation

Perhaps I am paranoid, but here is my impression: despite everything Obama had to say about the treatment of women and religious minorities in the Moslem world, the need to end Moslem antisemitism and Holocaust denial, the need for the Palestinians to get their act together in various ways, genocide in Sudan, etc., etc., the world consensus is that the only people who can expect to feel any heat from Obama are the Israelis, and the only issues he is serious about are the settlement freeze and Israeli acceptance of the "two-state solution".

So, what did Obama not mention? The Jews who fled Arab countries, the Arab denial of any Jewish connection to the Land of Israel in general and Jerusalem in particular, the inconvenient fact that he is pushing for granting national sovereignty to a people that has managed to skip the whole step of nation-building and proceeded directly to civil war....

Is Obama a courageous straight-shooting guy?  If he could be so up-front about his expectations from Israel, why didn't he have the guts to tell the Arabs "what everybody knows": that the grandchildren of the refugees of 1948 are not going to live in their grandparents' long-gone homes within Israel's 1949 borders?

Like a good Jew and Israeli, I think the Jews and Israelis have a great deal to do with getting us into this mess.  When the Oslo process began, Israeli governments began soft-peddling the historic connection of Jews to the Land of Israel in order to "prepare" the citizenry for the loss of territory. The ink was hardly dry on the Oslo agreements when politicians who supported it were already telling us that no one ever expected the Palestinians to actually abide by all its stipulations.  The weapons that were famously supposed to be collected were never collected, and no one really made a stink about it. While Israeli children underwent "peace education" Palestinian children continued to be taught to hate. Israelis were being told to appreciate the Palestinian narrative while Palestinians were being told to appreciate the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.  Huge numbers of automobiles were stolen from Israel and brought into the Palestinian Authority, but the Palestinian Police did nothing to return the cars, and no one expected them to.

Israel has had governments that were heavily invested in selling the peace process to Israelis and they were not about to risk losing popular support in Israel by suggesting that the Palestinian Authority was not fulfilling its side of the bargain.  While the Palestinians always felt free to attack Israel's legitimacy, Israel basically disarmed itself in the global war for public opinion and tacitly promoted the axiom that the Palestinians should not really be expected to fulfill agreements.  Even today, the Israeli media regularly fails to mention Arab demands for the "right of return" and prefers to pretend that the whole conflict is over the precise location of future borders.

Why should I expect more from Obama than I do from many of my fellow Israelis?

And what is the situation today?  When it was suggested that the Palestinians be required to recognize that Israel is the state of the Jewish People, the idea was quickly shot down - it was condemned as a demand that would obviously derail the peace process.  That's how bad things have become.

Well, that is my rant for now.  Good night from Kibbutz Sheluhot.

4. Measure for Measure: Hillary Bends Arm of Israel and Receives a Fractured Elbow
Clinton vs. Lieberman in Bare Knuckles Fight over Yesha
 http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/131937
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
Extracts:
The relationship of "good friends agree to disagree" took a tough test Wednesday afternoon as U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, with Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman standing at her side, told reporters, "We want to see a stop to the settlements."

Foreign Minister Lieberman, who himself lives in the settlement of Nokdim, south of Jerusalem, did not flinch and retorted, "We think that as in any place, babies are born, people get married, some pass away and we cannot accept this vision about an absolutely complete freezing of settlements."

Elliot Abrams, former adviser on the Middle East to the Bush government, wrote this week that the Obama administration's emphasis on a construction freeze in Judea and Samaria will lead to "needless confrontation" with Israel.

The confrontation escalated with the Clinton-Lieberman sparring match. Their opposing positions were not new, but their public standoff "appeared to be one of the most tense encounters between the sides for several years," the Financial Times of London reported.

Secretary Clinton views the destruction of "settlements," meaning Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, as a crucial step towards creating a new Palestinian Authority state on the same land, with its capital in eastern Jerusalem.

In her remarks Wednesday, Secretary Clinton also directly rejected Lieberman's claim that Israel had reached "some understandings" with the Bush administration.

She reiterated her rejection of former President George W. Bush's written promise to former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon -- for which she herself had voted as a junior senator in 2004 -- that areas of large Jewish populations, such as Maaleh Adumin and Gush Etzion, would remain as part of Israel regardless of the establishment of a PA state.

"In looking at the history of the Bush administration, there were no informal or oral enforceable agreements," she said.

Several hours after the meeting, she was rushed to the hospital for a fractured elbow which she suffered in a fall while on her way to the White House. She will undergo surgery next week and is expected to resume full duties soon.

5. El Queda Arabs Attempt to Kill Carter
Ex-US president Carter's escapes assassination from al Qaeda-linked Palestinians
DEBKAfile Special Report
Note: This report is a Debka exclusive. Debka is often referred to as a Mossad mouthpiece.

16 June: DEBKAfile's military sources confirm that the Army of Islam, the Palestinian al Qaeda cell in Gaza, tried to assassinate former US president Jimmy Carter by planting a 200-kilo bomb in the path of his exit to Israel after he held sympathetic talks with its Hamas rulers. Carter had a lucky escape; the bomb would have been lethal had it not been defused by Hamas sappers, who later denied it was there.
The same al Qaeda cell took part in the Hamas cross-border attack from Gaza to kidnap Israel soldiers a week ago and Hamas' Gilead Shalit's abduction three years back.
Carter "held back tears" at the sight of living conditions in Gaza, for which he held Israel wholly responsible.
Because of their quarrel with Hamas, Palestinian Authority security personnel were not available to secure Carter's visit to Gaza although the US has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in building and training a 1,500-strong PA special force.

6. Muslim Countries in Mideast, Africa Lead World in Human Traffic
www.IsraelNationalNews.com
by Gil Ronen
Obama: forgot to mention slave trade.
 Extracts:
(IsraelNN.com) Muslim countries in the Middle East and north-central Africa lead the world in human trafficking, according to a new U.S. State Department report. Of the 17 countries that were given the "Tier 3" listing reserved for the worst offenders, nine were Muslim countries or countries with a large Muslim population from these two regions.

The Middle Eastern countries with Tier 3 status are Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Syria. The north-central African countries are Mauritania, Chad, Sudan, Niger and Eritrea, all of which have very large Muslim populations.
Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE and Lebanon are on the Tier 2 Watchlist  one step above Tier 3.

The data in the report indicates that Muslim countries in the Middle East and Africa are continuing their centuries-old practice of human trafficking. Historians estimate that between 9 and 14 million black Africans were brought to the Americas in the Atlantic slave trade and between 11 and 18 million black African slaves crossed the Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and Sahara Desert between the Muslim conquests in the 7th century and 1900.
Iran: The report says that "Iran is a source, transit, and destination for men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of sexual exploitation and involuntary servitude. Iranian women are trafficked internally for the purpose of forced prostitution and forced marriage. Iranian and Afghan children living in Iran are trafficked internally for the purpose of forced marriage, commercial sexual exploitation, and involuntary servitude as beggars or laborers to pay debts, provide income, or support drug addiction of their families. Iranian women and girls are also trafficked to Pakistan, Turkey, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom for commercial sexual exploitation."

Saudi Arabia, the report says, "is a destination country for men and women trafficked for the purposes of involuntary servitude and, to a lesser extent, commercial sexual exploitation. Men and women from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Sudan, Ethiopia, and many other countries voluntarily travel to Saudi Arabia as domestic servants or other low-skilled laborers, but some subsequently face conditions indicative of involuntary servitude, including restrictions on movement, withholding of passports, threats, physical or sexual abuse, and non-payment of wages.

A significant number of women and children in the large Iraqi refugee community in Syria are forced into sexual exploitation by criminal gangs or, in some cases, their families. Some desperate Iraqi families reportedly abandon their girls at the border with the expectation that traffickers on the Syrian side would arrange forged documents for the children and "work" in a nightclub or brothel. Iraqi families arrange for young girls to work in clubs and to be "married," often multiple times, to men for the sole purpose of prostitution.

U.S. President Barack Obama, himself a descendant of black Africans, did not mention the subject of Muslim human trafficking in his recent speech to the Arab world in Cairo. He did mention, however, that ?for centuries, black people in America suffered the lash of the whip as slaves and the humiliation of segregation,? but did so in the context of talking about Palestinian suffering.
