Goldberg: Oil & Israel, The Tragedy of Sinai Subject: Oil & Israel
My letter in the 14 January London Jewish Tribune:
Dear Sir
"Oil discovered at Rosh Ha'ayin" (31 December) reminded one of how Israel would
not have to be digging thousands of feet searching for oil if she had not handed
the Sinai Peninsular over to Egypt in 1982, which apart from containing Har
Sinai, was a huge strategic buffer, located three massive air bases with vast
training airspace, had huge tourist potential, and of course the Abu Rudeis oil
field. This oil field would today be supplying all of Israel's need, which even
without, Israel's economy still compares favorably to much of Europe, but with,
would have enabled her to attain a standard of living higher than that of
Switzerland!
Some oil explorers have interpreted the posuk "Let Asher be blessed with
children: let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in
oil" (Devarim 33:24) as referring not only to shemen zayis, but also to
petroleum oil! They have invested fortunes digging in the territory of Shevet
Asher searching for oil, to date with little success. Anglo-Jewry should be
particularly grateful to Hashem for the fortuitous discovery of North Sea oil in
1965 in the UK's own backyard, without which its economy would have collapsed in
the 70s, rendering the Jewish position untenable in the social strife that would
have ensued.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe warned that Israel would one day sorely regret having
ceded Sinai. Zecharya 14 foretells that Egypt will be the main protagonist
before Moshiach against Yisroel, just as it was at the time of the Exodus 3322
years ago.
The Land of Israel "lacks for nothing" (Devarim 8), and in Messianic times its
borders will encompass the Nile Delta, all of Sinai, part of Northern Arabia,
Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, parts of Iraq, southeast Turkey, the island of
Cyprus, and reaches along the Euphrates River and beyond, including all the oil
fields contained therein!

Subject: mailinfo Guysen International, Monday 11th January 2010
23:15 The U.S. Army will double the value of emergency military equipment it
stockpiles on Israeli soil, and Israel will be allowed to use the U.S. ordnance
in the event of a military emergency, according to a report in the U.S. weekly
Defense News, as reported in Haaretz. The report, written by Barbara Opall-Rome,
the magazine's Israel correspondent, said that an agreement reached between
Washington and Jerusalem last month will bring the value of the military gear to
$800 million. (Guysen.International.News)
The deal allows Israel access to a wider spectrum of military ordnance, and the
U.S. official said his government was considering which forms of military
supplies would be added to stores in Israel. Missiles, armored vehicles, aerial
ammunition and artillery ordnance are already stockpiled in the country. The
agreement is expected to aid Israel in its effort to bolster its weapons
stockpiles for use in an emergency. Israel's stores of aerial and artillery
ammunition were depleted during the Second Lebanon War in 2006, nearly reaching
levels the IDF considers dangerously low.
