1. Paul Bailey: Hans from Germany and conspiracy theories

Hello Yair this Paul Bailey your somewhat controversial guest (be it so by means of misunderstandings), anyway I want to comment on a few things.

A man by the name of Hans (somewhat a German name), told you recently that the Germans were the true Israelites and chosen people. What nonsense. It has always been in the German collective sense to dehumanize anyone that is not of their collective and assume the title of master race. Hitler once said that it was the Germans who were the chosen of God and the real Jews who were the Anti-Christ worthy of extermination -and that is what the Germans did. Anti-Semitism is rising all over Europe and especially so in Germany, whose populace is regaining a very strong and dangerous sense of nationalism and expansionism which will eventually lead to no good. This man Hans is in my opinion a White supremacist from that country (could be wrong). I tend to agree with you that the Germans do not at all fulfill the criteria for Isrealite nations but just the exact opposite. I do think that you have really good knowledge when you said that the overwhelming majority of the true Isrealites moved out of Germany to the USA or Australia a long time ago, so the ones that are left are purely pagans and gentiles.

Yair what is your take on Conspiracy theories? there are so many abound now regarding the 9/11 attacks being staged, lies about the true nature of the American invasion of Iraq, about secret societies and the Illuminate and so on. What do you think of these things Yair?
Thanks Paul

Brit-Am Reply:

We have a few supporters from Germany who evidently are Israelites though most Germans are not.
There was a difference between the Germans of Germany and those who came to the USA.
This is discussed in our book
"Joseph - The Israelite Destiny of America"
http://britam.org/bkjoseph.html
As for Conspiracy Theories it is complicated.
For all we know there may have been some kind of government cognizance of 9/11.
Maybe they knew something about it. ignored the information, and now are ashamed to admit it?
Similar things have happened.
There is nothing wrong with being curious about such matter and reading into them.
Nevertheless in very many cases (nearly all of them) such innocuous and even necessary "conspiracy" investigation leads one into "Conspiracy Theories" that are false, evil, anti-American, anti-British, anti-Jewish, and anti-Bible.
It is as if there exists a de-facto "conspiracy" to hijack legitimate (and often necessary) anti-establishment investigation into the realms of darkness and mental sickness.
Brit-Am campaigned against Conspiracy Theories and their Antinomian agendas.
http://www.britam.org/Fight/Conspiracy.html
We may have exaggerated in this matter at times and made mistakes.
We lost supporters because of it and could have avoided it.
Nevertheless on the whole we were correct in what we did and it is something we can be proud of.

2. Question on the Quorum of Ten Tribes
Weinstein  wrote:

Dear Yair,
I have looked over many sources but I can not find a reliable list of the names of the ten lost tribes. As you know Shimon was not in the North and Benjamin stayed with Judah. Levi also more or less went to Judah after Yeruvam became king of the Northern tribes. He never had sovereignty over more than nine tribes which were eventually captured and dispersed by Assyrians. Therefore can you give me a list of the 10 lost tribes to which your site makes reference. Thank you. Avi Weinstien

Brit-Am Reply:

Shalom,
I saw modern scholars dealing with this problem. One wanted to suggest the Gilead of Manasseh had been related to as a Tribe in its own right!
We however have a different explanation.
There were in effect 13 Tribes since Joseph was split into Ephraim and Manasseh.
A quorum of TWELVE however is always maintained by not counting Levi (who was scattered amongst the others), or Simeon (who at one stage was subsumed under Judah),  or by counting Ephraim and Manasseh together as the one Tribe of "Joseph".
See:
"Brit-Am Now"-309
http://britam.org/now/now309.html
#1. Twelve Tribes or Thirteen and the Universe

When the northern Tribes of "Israel" separated from "Judah" Benjamin stayed with Judah.
[1-Kings 12:21] AND WHEN REHOBOAM WAS COME TO JERUSALEM, HE ASSEMBLED ALL THE HOUSE OF JUDAH, WITH THE TRIBE OF BENJAMIN
See:
http://britam.org/manasseh/menasseh2.html
(4) Some Tribal Interrelationships:
Judah and Benjamin
Simeon and Manasseh

The Tribe of  Levi  had been scattered throughout Israel but later all the Levites moved to Judah (2-Chronicles 11:14):
[2-Chronicles 11:14] FOR THE LEVITES LEFT THEIR SUBURBS AND THEIR POSSESSION, AND CAME TO JUDAH AND JERUSALEM: FOR JEROBOAM AND HIS SONS HAD CAST THEM OFF FROM EXECUTING THE PRIEST'S OFFICE UNTO THE LORD:

[1-Kings 11:31] AND HE SAID TO JEROBOAM, TAKE THEE TEN PIECES: FOR THUS SAITH THE LORD, THE GOD OF ISRAEL, BEHOLD, I WILL REND THE KINGDOM OUT OF THE HAND OF  SOLOMON, AND WILL GIVE TEN TRIBES TO THEE:

In the census lists of Ezra and Nehemiah of "Jews" who returned from Babylonian Exile only people from the Tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi are recalled.
Nevertheless the present-day "Jews" do include representative minorities of ALL Twelve Tribes, as explained elsewhere.

Jeroboam was promised that he would be given Ten Tribes:
[1-Kings 11:31] AND HE SAID TO JEROBOAM, TAKE THEE TEN PIECES: FOR THUS SAITH THE LORD, THE GOD OF ISRAEL, BEHOLD, I WILL REND THE KINGDOM OUT OF THE HAND OF  SOLOMON, AND WILL GIVE TEN TRIBES TO THEE:

In order to get Ten Tribes we would need to include Simeon amongst them.
Simeon is spoken of as having shared the fate of the Lost Ten Tribes who were exiled:
"And so he did in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, with their ruins [Hebrew: "Charvotayhem"] round about" (2-Chronicles 34:6).
Simeon was in the south and apparently in the region of Judah.
See however our article on Simeon
http://britam.org/simeon.html
As well as
See notes on:
Kuntillet Ajrud
http://britam.org/ezekiel/chapter8.html
From these articles you will see that part of Simeon was east of the Jordan and/or to the north.
In addition Simeon to the south of Judah was in some way actually subservient to northern Israel and exiled as part of the Ten Tribes.
Our proofs include Biblical Passages, Midrashim and Archaeological evidence.

Later we find a substantial element from Simeon amongst the Khazars as explained in our forthcoming work on the subject:

KHAZARS.
Israelite Tribes in Exile
http://www.britam.org/Khazarbook.html

The "Ten Tribes" therefore comprise:
Ephraim
Manasseh
Reuben
Simeon
Issachar
Zebulon
Gad
Asher
Dan
Naphtali

In addition amongst the "Ten Tribes" we sometimes find contingents from Judah, Benjamin, and Levi
that separated from "Judah".

3. URLs and Notes on the Khazars

(a) Armies
Nice short note on military expertise of Khazars.
Khazar Military

(b) Karaite-Karaims not Khazars But?
Karaites are people of Jewish origin who profess to keep the Torah but without the Oral Law.
Karaites emerged from the Middle East and now are to be found mostly in the State of Israel.
Karaims were once also known as Karaites. They are in effect Karaites from the Crimea of probable non-Israelite origin who intermarry freely with their Gentile neighbors. At least some of them were anti-Semitic and participated alongside the Gentiles in anti-Jewish actions.
The URL below claims that the Karaim are of Khazar origin.
Most authorities (including ourselves, even though we are not "authorities")
disagree.
Nevertheless the URL may be worth viewing.

http://www.turkiye.net/sota/karaim.html
Extract:
There is another supposition that the conversion of local inhabitants of Crimea to Karaism occurred not in Khazar times, but later, during or after the Mongol rule, under the influence of the newcomers from Byzantium. This could explain the Turkish language of the local Karaites, their Tatar appearance and way of life, and the political independence of the Karaites of Chufut-Kale. However, the genetic studies, point to their Khazar origin. Today Turkic Karaims are nearly all from Crimea. Over the years, they moved and settled in Lithuania, Poland, other parts of Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, Israel, France, and the United States. It is assumed that the number of Karaims in the world is less than 5,000 today.

(c) Khazars Farmers not Nomads?
Claims that the Khazars were sedentary farmers who only co-operated with Turkish Nomads and consequently became confused with them in the eyes of outsiders. Also claims that due to a rise in the level of the Caspian Sea the Khazar farming estates were  were impoverished, they became Muslims, and later were absorbed by the Tartars.
http://groznijat.tripod.com/fadlan/gumilev.html
N. GUMILEV ("Where Was She, the Country of Khazaria?", 1993) claims that the Khazars were sedentary farmers.
Gumilev says that, "The Khazars were numerous and rich.  Their main activities were agriculture and fishing as well as husbandry.  Vineyards and orchards were kept by every Khazarian clan.  All this points out that the Khazars inhabited not the dry steppes, but the banks of the channels of the Volga delta."

The Khazars lived along the banks of the Caspian Sea in a line stretching from Derban on the shores of the by the north Caucasus around to Itil at the estuary of the Volga. At that time he says the level of the Caspian was lower and the Khazars dwelt on lands they cultivated that are now under water. The Khazars were part of the  West Turk Khaganate, and allies of nomadic groups such as the Uighurs, Barsils and Pechenegs (Turks).
The Khazars co-operated closely with these Turkish Nomads and consequently became confused with them in the eyes of outsiders.
The level of the Caspian rose in the 900s CE and the Khazars lost two-thirds of their cultivated land.
Svjatoslav, the Russ Prince of Kiev, attacked Khazaria in  965 CE leaving Khazaria in a weakened condition. Subsequently the Ghuss Turks occupied the country. The Khazars were liberated from the Ghuzz by Kwarezm but the inhabitants of Khazaria were then obliged to convert to Islam which they did. Further rising of the Caspian Sea and flooding from the Volga caused a remnant of the Khazars to move eastward where they merged with other peoples and eventually became part of the Golden Horde. The Golden Horde was a successor to the Mongolian forces of Genghis Khan.

Most of the Horde's population however were not Mongols but rather Turkish-speaking groups such as the Kypchaks, Bulgar Tatars, Kyrgyz, Khwarezmians, and others. They were commonly named the Tatars by the Russians and Europeans.

These suppositions by Gumilev in our opinion are incorrect but there might be some aspects of the truth in some of the claims made.
Some Tatar groups claimed descent from the Lost Ten Tribes. There were "Nordics" amongst them and possibly some of them had Judaizing tendencies.
Gibbon (6, 206) recorded corps of "Jewish" Troops in the forces of Genghis Khan.  The Mongols and Tartars in the eyes of  West were frequently identified with the forces of Gog and Magog and a small Khazar presence may have helped give rise that the "Red Jews" from the Lost Ten Tribes were amongst them.
