1. Question on Spanish
From: Robert Jones
Subject: The Spanish

Mr. Davidiy,

I have written before on questions relating to the lost tribes. However, I found that article about the Phoenicians to be very interesting. If they were related to the Hebrews and they worked for centuries with them, there obviously would be blessed to a degree. If Portugal and Brazil are Phoenicians, how do we explain Spanish latin america. Spain's reach is from Argentina to Mexico. There are only so many peoples in history who have that kind of reach and power. There empire was short lived but the results continue to this day. I know our focus is on Israel, but to me is seems that the only one that would be blessed to this extent would be Esau. I know you have said that you do not believe Esau is Turkey but you'll find them in Germany and Belgium and mixed among the rest of Israel. So if Esau is not Spain than who are they? The Romans migrated into Spain and Jews of Judah were there for a time. You also later found Visigoths, Vandals and Moors. My question is if they are such a mixed people how could they have been given so much power and so much territory. My personal belief, is that they aren't so mixed as we think. They were used for a purpose by God. Columbus rediscovery of America came as a result of Spain. Is it possible that Spain is Esau??

Brit-Am Note: Early sources mentioned "Erythrean" settlements in Spain and these may have been Edomite-Greek settlements.
Ricardo Lopez Crespo traced the Ausetani (in Catalonian Spanish named "Ausa") of Eastern Spain to Esau.

Concerning the Hispanics in the USA some of them may be of Jewish origin and others may be Israelites and then again others may be something else.

According to reports most are honest good hearted people just trying to get by. On the other hand, They also include intellectuals some of whom are anti-Semitic and who want to take over the southern USA and drive out the Anglos. There are also Hispanic gangs that require new members to kill an innocent person and other phenomena of a worrying nature.
Concerning the Hispanics in the USA we understand that:
Cubans are mainly Spanish with some native mixture.
Mexicans are descended mainly from Spanish males and native women.
Puerto Ricans are half Spanish, half African, with some Indian admixture.

see items nos 2 and 5 in this posting for related notes.

Esau
[Genesis 25:22] AND THE CHILDREN STRUGGLED TOGETHER WITHIN HER; AND SHE SAID, IF IT BE SO, WHY AM I THUS? AND SHE WENT TO ENQUIRE OF THE LORD.
[Genesis 25:23] AND THE LORD SAID UNTO HER, TWO NATIONS ARE IN THY WOMB, AND TWO MANNER OF PEOPLE SHALL BE SEPARATED FROM THY BOWELS; AND THE ONE PEOPLE SHALL BE STRONGER THAN THE OTHER PEOPLE; AND THE ELDER SHALL SERVE THE YOUNGER.

[Genesis 27:39] AND ISAAC HIS FATHER ANSWERED AND SAID UNTO HIM, BEHOLD, THY DWELLING SHALL BE THE FATNESS OF THE EARTH, AND OF THE DEW OF HEAVEN FROM ABOVE;
[Genesis 27:40] AND BY THY SWORD SHALT THOU LIVE, AND SHALT SERVE THY BROTHER; AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS WHEN THOU SHALT HAVE THE DOMINION, THAT THOU SHALT BREAK HIS YOKE FROM OFF THY NECK.
[Genesis 27:41] AND ESAU HATED JACOB BECAUSE OF THE BLESSING WHEREWITH HIS FATHER BLESSED HIM: AND ESAU SAID IN HIS HEART, THE DAYS OF MOURNING FOR MY FATHER ARE AT HAND; THEN WILL I SLAY MY BROTHER JACOB.

Esau was blessed with promises of wealth and power. According to tradition many nations of Europe are dominated by Esau.
The blessing to Esau included a military aspect:
BY THY SWORD SHALT THOU LIVE
It may be that the former Fascist and Nazi (Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria) nations of Europe were dominated by Esau since their philosophy was based upon worship of the sword.

2. Latinos with traditions of Spanish Jewish ancestry

David Kelly. "DNA Clears the Fog Over Latino Links to Judaism in New Mexico." Los Angeles Times (December 5, 2004). Excerpts: "He [Father William Sanchez launched a DNA project to test his relatives, along with some of the parishioners at Albuquerque's St. Edwin's Church, where he works. As word got out, others in the community began contacting him. So Sanchez expanded the effort to include Latinos throughout the state. Of the 78 people tested, 30 are positive for the marker of the Cohanim, whose genetic line remains strong because they rarely married non-Jews throughout a history spanning up to 4,000 years. Michael Hammer, a research professor at the University of Arizona and an expert on Jewish genetics, said that fewer than 1% of non-Jews possessed this marker. That fact - along with the traditions in many of these families - makes it likely that they are Jewish, he said. ... It also explained practices that had baffled many folks here for years: the special knives used to butcher sheep in line with Jewish kosher tradition, the refusal to work on Saturdays to honor the Sabbath, the menorahs that had been hidden away. In some families, isolated rituals are all that remain of a once-vibrant religious tradition diluted by time and fears of persecution. ... 'We believe a fairly high percentage of first families [arriving] in New Mexico were nominally Catholic, but their secret religion was Judaism,' he [Bennett Greenspan of Family Tree DNA] said. "We are finding between 10% and 15% of men living in New Mexico or south Texas or northern Mexico have a Y chromosome that tracks back to the Middle East.' They are not all Cohanim, and there's a slight chance some could be of African Muslim descent. But Greenspan said the DNA of the men is typical of Jews from the eastern Mediterranean."

Danish Archaeologists in Search of Vikings in Iran

Tehran, Jan. 20 (Iranian Cultural Heritage News Agency) Researchers from the Copenhagen Museum in Denmark have traveled to the coasts of the Caspian Sea, northern Iran, in search of clues of relationships between Iranians and Vikings. A few years ago, a researcher from the Copenhagen Museum, Nadia Haupt, discovered more than one thousand coins and relics that did not belong to the Danish or other Scandinavian cultures, and therefore set to find out more about the historical roots of the Danish civilization. The ancient items that took the attention of experts included more than one hundred thousand coins that are not part of the Danish history, Viking shipwrecks that Haupt believes their style of construction and the kind of trade they used to undertake differentiate them from those of their ancestors, clothes and accessories used today in some Scandinavian cities and villages, and red and blue colors included in the clothes of the residents under study. The findings prompted archeologists and anthropology enthusiasts to find out more about their ancestral roots, and where these items have originally come from. The first hypothesis that these items originated from southwestern Europe such as Spain was overruled with more studies. The next hypothesis focused on the northeastern countries in Europe, or more specifically Russia. Relics found in the excavations of the area have confirmed the existence of trade relationships between Denmark and Russia, but Haupt intends to get to the main roots. She has followed her leads in Russia and has now come to the Iranian side of the Caspian Sea, hoping to prove that Eastern cultures had influenced the Scandinavian countries, such as Denmark. Director of the research center of the Cultural Heritage Department, Mazandaran province, Ali Mahforouzi, told CHN that Haupt’s field work will continue for 2 weeks, after which she would go back to Denmark to hopefully announce the results of her studies in 3 months. Mahforouzi believes that further excavations in European countries may show that old Asian civilizations, especially Iran, have had a more important role in the booming of the European cultures. If her hypothesis is proved, Mahforouzi said, a great project concerning the relations between the Iranian and residents of the coastal areas of the Adriatic Sea will be triggered. According to him, such discoveries can help attract many scholar-tourists to Iran. The Cultural Heritage & Tourism Department in the northern province of Mazandaran has some plans to prepare the residents in this region for hosting foreign tourists and has started some archeology classes and exhibitions of their heritage.

5. Galicia and Castile
From: Ray Fulford
Subject: Galicia and Castile

Hello Yair ,

Here is a question I would like to have answered . In one of the recent Brit-Am e-mails I received , there was a write-up on the Phoenician origins of the Portuguese people . I would like your opinion on the origins of the Galicians of Northwestern Spain . If they are not Israelites , then who are they ? They stand out as being very different from other Spaniards . My cousin who worked in Galicia as a research scientist for The Aluminum Company of Canada tells me that the people of Galicia don't even think like other Spaniards . Neither do they look like other Spaniards for the most part . These people are culturally Celtic in almost every way . Their favourite musical instrument is la gaita ( the bagpipes ) . There are also other parts of Spain which , in my opinion , could be considered Israelitish , even though it is no longer possible to say so categorically because of all the admixtures which have taken place . The nucleus of modern Spain was Old Castile , and eventually Old and New Castile . The core of the Castilian people was Visigothic . There were several branches of Goths . The west Goths ( or Visigoths ) ended up in Spain . They founded the city of Toledo , and for many years it was the capital of Spain , and predated Madrid by many hundreds of years . Are the Visigoths descended from Gad ? It would appear as if most northern Spaniards are of Israelitish stock , though no doubt coming from different tribes .

Answer: We said before that Yair Davidiy does not sit in the chair of any acceptance committee. We tell it as we see it and you may take it or leave it. We use criteria and methods of deduction that work in most cases but there may be exceptions. I do not want to say things that are not so or offend people or give the wrong impressions. We use criteria and tend to apply them to whole countries as far as the evidence allows. There is a certain logic to this since for the criteria to be applicable the people in question would have had to have had the maximum historical opportunity to develop their innate Hebrew characteristics if they possessed such. Minority Groups that were dominated by other peoples and cultures would not have been able to properly exhibit whatsoever of the relevant criteria they may have possessed.

[I have two companions of French origin both of whom are linguists and historians. They have traveled extensively including trips to Spain. One considers the Galaicians of Spain today to be basically Celtic whereas the other says they are a different group in a category of their own].

Concerning Spain and Portugal
According to the Brit-Am understanding:
Hiberi and Celts entered these countries and largely moved out leaving indigenous natives and newcomers from North Africa, Greece, etc to take over.
Later Goths, Vandals, Alans, Sueves and others whom we identify elsewhere as being largely of Israelite ancestry entered the area. The impression is that these invaders were not numerous. By the time they reached Spain they already included other peoples who had intermixed with them. Some of them (according to Z. Thundy) joined the Anglo-Saxon invasions of Britain, some joined the Vandals in North Africa who moved to Ireland and then England, and some remained. Of those who remained a portion converted to Judaism and intermixed with the Jews and must have been expelled with them. Of those who remained and did not become Jewish and yet were "Israelite" by origin we cannot say but the impression is that it was a minority. They may actually in the end have been few in number or they may not. It may also be that amongst those of Spaniards whose descendants one or another have reached North America there may be many of Israelite origin.

ISREALITE CRITERIA ON THE NATIONAL AND INDIVIDUAL LEVELS

THE CRITERIA APPLIED TO NATIONS
1. Blessings: Economic and Physical Blessings as promised to Israel in Scripture.
2. Indications of Scripture: Biblical Evidence predicting whereto the Lost Ten Tribes would go, what type of religion and government they would have, etc.
3. Groundwork: Historical, Archaeological, and Related Proofs showing paths of migration.
4. Judah: This entails proven feelings of kinship and sympathy with the Jews and a Relative Lack of Anti-Semitism when compared with others.
5. Originality: Innovation and Intellect: A minimal degree of national Intellectual Wisdom and Honesty.
6. Bravery: Proven Military Prowess in the past at least and at present in potential
7. Empathy: The Doing of Social Justice.

SUGGESTED QUALIFICATIONS AS APPLIED TO INDIVIDUALS
[see our qualification to point 4]
It is obvious that if someone is of Israelite descent (point 2 BELOW) they are Israelite whether or not they fulfill any of the other points below. The criteria however may be useful for those who are not certain or cannot provide evidence that is satisfactory from the viewpoint of others.
1. INNER IDENTIFICATION: Do you feel Israelite or Jewish or would you like to be so considered?
2. ANCESTRY: Do you have Jewish ancestors or those who were probably Israelites according to Brit-Am and related research findings?
If you do not have such ancestry or are not sure would you be prepared to totally and irrevocably identify as an Israelite?
3. SCRIPTURE: Do you believe in the Bible? Would you be prepared to keep Biblical Laws IF you were convinced at any stage that the Bible requires you to do so?
4. SOCIAL SURROUNDINGS: Do you now live amongst people of Brit-Am Israelite or Jewish origin and do you identify with them and on the whole are accepted by them? At the least do you wish to live amongst such people?
[This must be circumscribed since many of those who feel an "Israelite calling" experience a possibly necessary estrangement at some stage from those around them].
5. PHILO-JUDAIC: Are you pro-Jewish? At the least do you reject anti-Semitism and even feel offended by it?
Would you like to see a union between "Israel" and Judah?
6. GOOD QUALITIES: These are based on THE THREE CRITERIA OF THE SAGES.
We have counted these under one heading since they are inter-related and someone who has one of the three qualities in effect must have the two others.
The Sages said that there are three signs that distinguish descendants of Israel: They are merciful, kind, and modest.
To fulfill these criteria one does not necessarily have to be a "saint" just to judge one's reactions all other things being equal:
MERCY: Do you feel sympathy for others? Do you believe in social justice? Do you try to take account of the sensitivities of others?
ALTRUISM: KIND: Are you kind to others? At the least do you feel that needless suffering should not be inflicted on others but rather where possible good be done unto them?
MODESTY: Are you prepared to do good and act worthily even though you may receive no reward or recognition and perhaps even suffer because of it?
7. FAMILY: If you fulfill the above requirements do some members of your family now or in the past also share the said sentiments and qualities.
