1. Fulfillment of Prophecy Before Our Eyes?
Last night I attended a weekly lesson in the Book of Jeremiah. The lesson
is given by Rabbi Mordechai Machles.
[The Rabbi has our books and says he likes them. He  recommends them to
others, but has never actually said whether he agrees or disagrees with the
message within them].
Jeremiah speaks of the destruction of Babylon. Babylon the city of history
according to conventional histories was conquered several times but never
actually destroyed. It has therefore been concluded that the complete
fulfillment of the prophecy is yet to come.
Brit-Am has shown that according to our understanding of the sources: The
major gist of prophecy is for the End of Times. Nevertheless prophecy can
be fulfilled several times over. Prophecy may be seen as a prototype of an
ongoing sequence of events that recurs in different forms throughout
history and whose ultimate fulfillment comes only in the Last Days. The
destruction of Babylon may be referring to something else. Babylon has been
considered as synonymous with Edom. Babylon in both the Talmud and in
Christian tradition had been identified with Rome.
Rabbi Mordechai Machles suggests that maybe the present conflict also
represents a fulfillment of this prophecy. Jeremiah 51 refers to Israel as
the Battleaxe of God and implies that Israel may play a part in the
destruction of Babylon. Sadam Hussein considers himself to be
Nebuchadnessar or a reincarnation of Nebuchadnessar. He has rebuilt much of
ancient Babylon as it once was.
Below are the verses Rabbi Machles discussed last night with the commentary
Brit-Am gave in the past. It is worth re-reading.
Rabbi Machles and other people attending the lesson pointed out the
following points: The destruction of Babylon is compared to that of  Sodom
and Gomorrha. Sadam recalls Sodom. The destruction is complete and sounds
like the after-effects of nuclear destruction. The attack comes from the
North and the Allies intend to attack Sadam from the area of Turkey to the
north of Iraq. It says (Jeremiah 49:19) "THE LEAST [youngest]  OF THE FLOCK
SHALL DRAW THEM OUT" and one commentary says that this refers to Persia
attacking from the north, while others say it means Israel. We have pointed
out the Rabbinical opinion that this refers to the Tribes of Joseph.

The USA and Britain are about to attack Iraq (Babylon) from Turkey to the
North of Iraq and do we identify them with Joseph.
The possibility of using nuclear weapons has been considered.

For all we know, there may not be a war. Something may happen at the last
minute to avert the above scenario.
Nevertheless the fact that the very possibility of the above literal
fulfillment of the verses in question has become a tangible
any-minute-now quite possible reality is interesting.

The verses in Question with the Brit-Am Commentary from the past:
[Jeremiah 50:37] A SWORD IS UPON THEIR HORSES, AND UPON THEIR CHARIOTS, AND
UPON ALL THE MINGLED PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THE MIDST OF HER; AND THEY SHALL
BECOME AS WOMEN: A SWORD IS UPON HER TREASURES; AND THEY SHALL BE
ROBBED.

[Jeremiah 50:38] A DROUGHT IS UPON HER WATERS; AND THEY SHALL BE DRIED UP:
FOR IT IS THE LAND OF GRAVEN IMAGES, AND THEY ARE MAD UPON THEIR
IDOLS.

[Jeremiah 50:39] THEREFORE THE WILD BEASTS OF THE DESERT WITH THE WILD
BEASTS OF THE ISLANDS SHALL DWELL THERE, AND THE OWLS SHALL DWELL THEREIN:
AND IT SHALL BE NO MORE INHABITED FOR EVER; NEITHER SHALL IT BE DWELT IN
FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.

[Jeremiah 50:40] AS GOD OVERTHREW SODOM AND GOMORRAH AND THE NEIGHBOUR
CITIES THEREOF, SAITH THE LORD; SO SHALL NO MAN ABIDE THERE, NEITHER SHALL
ANY SON OF MAN DWELL THEREIN.

[Jeremiah 50:41] BEHOLD, A PEOPLE SHALL COME FROM THE NORTH, AND A GREAT
NATION, AND MANY KINGS SHALL BE RAISED UP FROM THE COASTS OF THE
EARTH.

[Jeremiah 50:42] THEY SHALL HOLD THE BOW AND THE LANCE: THEY ARE CRUEL, AND
WILL NOT SHEW MERCY: THEIR VOICE SHALL ROAR LIKE THE SEA, AND THEY SHALL
RIDE UPON HORSES, EVERY ONE PUT IN ARRAY, LIKE A MAN TO THE BATTLE, AGAINST
THEE, O DAUGHTER OF BABYLON.

[Jeremiah 50:43] THE KING OF BABYLON HATH HEARD THE REPORT OF THEM, AND HIS
HANDS WAXED FEEBLE: ANGUISH TOOK HOLD OF HIM, AND PANGS AS OF A WOMAN IN
TRAVAIL.

[Jeremiah 50:44] BEHOLD, HE SHALL COME UP LIKE A LION FROM THE SWELLING OF
JORDAN UNTO THE HABITATION OF THE STRONG: BUT I WILL MAKE THEM SUDDENLY RUN
AWAY FROM HER: AND WHO IS A CHOSEN MAN, THAT I MAY APPOINT OVER HER? FOR
WHO IS LIKE ME? AND WHO WILL APPOINT ME THE TIME? AND WHO IS THAT SHEPHERD
THAT WILL STAND BEFORE ME?

[Jeremiah 50:45] THEREFORE HEAR YE THE COUNSEL OF THE LORD, THAT HE HATH
TAKEN AGAINST BABYLON; AND HIS PURPOSES, THAT HE HATH PURPOSED AGAINST THE
LAND OF THE CHALDEANS: SURELY THE LEAST OF THE FLOCK SHALL DRAW THEM OUT:
SURELY HE SHALL MAKE THEIR HABITATION DESOLATE WITH THEM.

Who do the Chaldees and Babylonians represent today? Prophecy can be
understood at several levels.

At one level present-day Iraq and the Gulf States (Kuwait, etc) occupy the
region of ancient Babylon and to some degree may be physical descendants of
Babylonians. Osama bin Laden the evil beast represents Babylon and Babylon
could be taken to include Saudi Arabia and even represent Islam in its entirety

On the other hand we have seen that Babylon and Edom tended to overlap. In
Christian sources (that may be based on Jewish ones) and also in at least
one Talmudic source Babylon was associated with Rome. Babylon could
therefore represent the powers of Catholicism or the European Union or the
like.

Babylon and Edom were linked together.

There are interesting Midrashim (Rabbinical Oral traditions) on the above
theme.

The expression  "THE LEAST [youngest]  OF THE FLOCK SHALL DRAW THEM OUT"
occurred previously where it was linked with Edom:

[Jeremiah 49:20] THEREFORE HEAR THE COUNSEL OF THE LORD, THAT HE HATH TAKEN
AGAINST EDOM; AND HIS PURPOSES, THAT HE HATH PURPOSED AGAINST THE
INHABITANTS OF TEMAN: SURELY THE LEAST OF THE FLOCK SHALL DRAW THEM OUT:
SURELY HE SHALL MAKE THEIR HABITATIONS DESOLATE WITH
THEM.

  On the expression "SURELY THE LEAST OF THE FLOCK SHALL DRAW THEM OUT":
One opinion says it is referring to the Persians who would conquer Babylon.
The word translated as THE LEAST can also mean "the youngest". Another
opinion says it refers to the distant future and Babylon represents the
European forces of Esau-Edom.   THE LEAST OF THE FLOCK refers to Israelites
from the Tribes of Joseph and Benjamin, i.e. the two sons of Rachel wife of
Jacob.

<<Rabbi Pinchas said in the name of Rabbi Shmuel son of Nachman, it is a
tradition that Esau will not be defeated save by the sons of Rachel, as it
says  SURELY THE LEAST OF THE FLOCK SHALL DRAW THEM OUT  [Jeremiah 50:45].
Why are they called THE LEAST [youngest] OF THE FLOCK? Because they are the
youngest sons of the Tribes>> (Breishit Raba 73;5).

[The sons of Rachel are Joseph (Ephraim and Manasseh) and Benjamin]
Historically most of Benjamin went with Judah but there was a portion that
became attached to the other Ten Tribes. These became prominent amongst the
Normans who conquered England and became the upper class. The Norman
William the Conqueror used the wolf as his symbol and a wolf was the symbol
of Benjamin.

The combination of Benjamin with Joseph is indicated in Psalms:
<<GIVE EAR, O SHEPHERD OF ISRAEL, THOU THAT LEADEST JOSEPH LIKE A FLOCK;
THOU  THAT DWELLEST BETWEEN THE CHERUBIMS, SHINE FORTH.
<<BEFORE EPHRAIM AND BENJAMIN AND MANASSEH STIR UP THY STRENGTH, AND  COME
AND SAVE US    [Psalms 80:1-2].

  [Jeremiah 50:46] AT THE NOISE OF THE TAKING OF BABYLON THE EARTH IS
MOVED, AND THE CRY IS HEARD  AMONG THE NATIONS

2. The Brit-Am Perspective on North America and the Ancient World.
It is agreed that Vikings from Scandinavia attempted to settle in North
America but were not successful. They were killed out and
disappeared.  Some returned to where they came from. Some of them may have
assimilated amongst Eskimo and Indian tribes since it was reported later
that amongst some of these peoples individuals with fair hair and light
eyes were to be found.
Other Israelites may well previously had had a similar experience.
Our impression is that most of the natives of North America were not
Israelites but some of them may well have been.
Quite a few ordinary Americans have some Amerindian ancestry including some
Brit-Am supporters and personal friends of Yair Davidiy. Perhaps these
represent instances of people of Israelite ancestry re-uniting with each other?
Brit-Am attempts to understand the truth. In our researches we also attempt
to conform to conventionally accepted  academic opinion. We usually do not
succeed in this policy and find ourselves frequently adopting contrary
opinions.
A possible Israelite presence in North America before Colombus does not
affect our overall conclusions one way or the other. We are emphasizing the
fact that the overwhelming majority of the Lost Ten Tribes went to Western
Europe and from there (as Europeans) they LATER did populate North America.
This is our main point.
Nevertheless there exists a strong likelihood that some Israelites had also
reached North America before then. We personally are interested in
researches in this direction and those who wish to pursue the subject are
encouraged to do so.
In future such researches could even help us. Barry Fell, for instance, was
a leading proponent of Ancient World involvement in America. Barry Fell was
a great scholar in his own field. He seems to have taken it as obvious that
the Phoenicians, Celts, Iberians of Tartessus in Spain, the Vikings, and
others all had a similar culture and seem to have overlapped with a degree
with each other.
This, if correct, would help confirm Brit-Am conclusions in other fields.
Nevertheless, since all this is still controversial, we are not so sure
about it, and it does not directly affect our fundamental conclusions.
Brit-Am will not involve itself in the issue, at least for the time being.
 From time to time, however, me may bring up points concerning this matter
for the sake of general interest.

Shalom Yair,

A number of people on the BritAm list have contacted me directly about the
Israelites being in ancient North America.  Some are very interested and
some are a bit skeptical and want additional information.  In light of the
reference on this BritAm posting to the Bat Creek Stone and Dr. Cyrus
Gordon, I thought I'd take this timely opportunity to give some of my
books' new information to the BritAm list as a whole instead of answering
every inquiry individually.

Dr. Cyrus Gordon, until his death not long ago, was one of the most
respected voices in the "Establishment" field of American Archaeology.  He
headed the Dept. of Mediterranean Studies at Brandeis University, and he
authored many books on archaeological subjects.  Concerning the Bat Creek
Stone, Dr. Gordon documents its authenticity as a Hebrew inscription which
confirms the emigration of Hebrew-speakers from Palestine to Ancient
America in the 2nd Century AD.  Indeed, American scholars who first
discovered the inscription failed to recognize it as Hebrew because they
published the inscription upside down!  Dr. Gordon's book, Before Columbus,
contains many photographs of Bar Kockhba coins found throughout Kentucky,
just north of where the Bat Creek stone was found in Tennessee.  Dr. Gordon
wrote on page 187 of his book concerning the Bat Creek Stone: "Trying to
explain away the Bat Creek evidence as anything other than American contact
with Palestine around the 2nd century AD can only amount to obscurantism
that no sensible scholar or layman should elect. The Atlantic was crossed
long before the Vikings, by different peoples during different centuries."

Not far from the above discoveries, another key artifact was found: a
tablet found as grave goods in the Ohio River Mound Builder's culture had
an inscription of the Ten Commandments in ancient Hebrew (the square Hebrew
alphabet was used).  Another inscription of the Ten Commandments in the
more ancient Paleo-Hebrew was discovered (along with a variety of other
Paleo-Hebrew inscriptions) in New Mexico. This inscription I have seen with
my own eyes and it is in an area which was once inhabited when a large,
now-dry riverbed was filled with water and connected to the Gulf of Mexico
via the Rio Grande River.

There are numerous other evidences of ancient cultures being present in
Ancient America.  A multi-acre Temple Site dedicated to Baal and other
"gods" (with Phoenician/Hebrew, Celtic and other inscriptions) was already
in New Hampshire when the American colonists came to the New World!  Not
comprehending the priceless historical value of this ancient Temple
complex, the early colonists dismantled it and used its stones to build
buildings, roads, fences, etc.  What is left of this site has been shown on
a cable-TV documentary called "America's Stonehenge."  As Dr. Gordon (and
others) have noted, the ancient Greeks called all the Northwest Semitic
peoples (Israelites, Sidonians, inhabitants of Tyre, etc.) by the term
"Phoenician," so the ancient kingdom of Israel would have been reckoned as
an integral part of the Phoenician Empire by Mediterranean people.  The
Romans, Egyptians and ancient Arabic-speakers were also present in Ancient
America, and their inscriptions, coins, etc. are well-documented.  Early
Christian inscriptions in the Punic language of the 1st or 2nd centuries AD
have also been found in the New World.  The reason these remarkable finds
are not present in American history texts is because the modern educational
system is deeply immersed in a loyalty to Darwinism and evolution and it is
intensely hostile to any facts which verify or validate biblical accounts.


Some have wondered how the ancient Phoenicians navigated to the New World
over the open ocean.  My new books document that the Phoenicians utilized
an ingenious water-compass (a magnetic lodestone floating in water which
would always point to magnetic north) to enable them to navigate the oceans
on a correct course heading even in cloudy and stormy weather!  Dr. Gordon
and other writers have abundantly documented that the ancient Greeks wrote
of a land-mass out into the Atlantic which could only be North America
(indeed, they described it in remarkably accurate detail). It can now be
known that Columbus "rediscovered" America after the long Dark Ages had
disrupted an earlier "Golden Age" of exploration, colonization and
commercial trade between the Old and New Worlds which had gone on for over
a millennium.  Dr. Gordon even proposed in his book that the biblical
"Tarshish" was silver-rich, ancient Mexico.

All the above artifacts, inscriptions, etc. are documented in my books, and

4. Another Opinion About the Cherokee

Shalom Yair,
Having some distant kindred on the Qualla Boundary or the Eastern Band of
the Cherokee, which are a Federally recognized tribe, I wish to comment on
Beverly Northup's use of the name "Cherokee." This is not an attack on her
nor is it intended to be derogatory towards her in any way. This name came
in many phonetic pronunciations and spellings (50 different ones). But
ALWAYS, it was the name given to them by OTHER Tribes here in the
Southeast, such as the Creek, Seneca or more so from the Choctaw or by
White European "discoverers" such as De Soto. Other Tribes such as the
Delaware called the "Cherokee" the "Talega, Tallige, Tallige-wi...etc." The
Iroquois called them "Oyada'ge'onnon." The "Cherokee" referred to
themselves as the "Ani-Yun'wiya" or "Real People." Two or three other names
of importance is Ani-Kitu'hwagi, Ani-Tsa'lagi and Ani-Kuta'ni (This was the
priestly clan of which my own ancient ancestors are said to have come from
on this side of the family). There are also different "Clan" names (7 in
the Eastern Band) such as Ani-Wadi or Paint Clan or Ani-Waya--The Wolf
Clan. There are NO stories or Legends in either the Eastern Band or what
became the Western Band in Oklahoma (Eastern moved there during the Trail
of Tears in 1838-9) that would lead one to believe in any connection
between the "Cherokee" and either House of Jacob. After 500 years of racial
mixing though I'm sure there is now. The "nations" before the Cherokee and
those they absorbed are more likely to have come from a common ancestor of
the MAYA in the Yucatan area. I do not know or understand Beverly's
motivation for stating such, but feel confident, based on historic and
personal knowledge, that she does not speak with much authority on
this...either from a professional standpoint of Tribal (Federally
recognized that is). Hope this helps some. Anyone wishing to check into a
definitive source can read James Mooney's History, Myth's, and Sacred
Formulas of the Cherokees, ISBN: 0-914875-19-1, Bright Mountain Books,
Asheville, NC. This book is a standard in historical data on the Cherokee.
