Shalom Yair,
I wish you and Rabbi Avraham a joyous and peaceful Fall festival season.
My computer's motherboard died and cannot be repaired. I've ordered
a new
computer system and hope to be operational in about a week. I'm writing
this from a friend's computer so I must be brief.
Last Sabbath, I spoke to about 120 people in Phoenix, AZ who received
the
message about the ten tribes very enthusiastically. My host told me
people
from ten different churches and fellowships were there. I met a friend
of
Efraim Frank's there--her name is Lynette DelaCruz. We had a great
conversation (her daughter was there too). She mentioned Efraim had
apparently recovered his health as he was due in Denver soon! Two weeks
ago
I was in Denver for a funeral, so I was just there myself.

2. North American Indians and King Solomon
From: Hal Armes
Subject: Re: "Brit-Am Now"-88
Another possiblity regarding the North American Indians. Some believe
that
North America is where Solomon had his silver mines. Naturally he sent
some
of his own Hebrew people to look after the mines, and no doubt some
slaves
to do the mining as well. Whether they took some of the native peoples
as
slaves to work the mines might be questionable, but it is known that
there
is a very old table of stone in NA on which is inscribed the 10
Commandments in Hebrew - actually Aramaic if I remember correctly,
but that
stands as proof that Israelites were here long before this country
was
settled by white men. If NA was in fact the location of some of Solomon's
mines no doubt the Hebrews left in charge of the mines would have mingled
to some degree with the slaves and possibly some of the native people's
as
well, and thus the spread of Hebrew terms and influence in NA, and
a bit of
the Hebrew bloodline as well.

3.RARE PICTISH STONE FOUND IN GARDEN

A "BUILDING block" discovered during the conversion of an east Fife
barn
has turned out to be one of the most significant single Pictish finds
to be
made in Scotland during the past century.
The unusual stone, which turned out to be an extremely rare Pictish
Christian cross-slab, was discovered by accident in the garden of the
Kingsbarns home of Mrs Marjorie Lang, winner of BBC TV’s Masterchef
series.
Yesterday Fife Council archaeologist Douglas Speirs expressed great
excitement at the find and said it would shed considerable light on
the
understanding of early Christian life in Fife.
Marjorie, winner of the Millennium Masterchef Trophy, and her husband
Geoff
recently discovered the stone at their home while measuring up a ruinous
outbuilding for conversion to form a demonstration kitchen for Marjorie.
Of probable ninth or early-10th century date, the stone, measuring only
52cm wide by 73cm long, is one of the most significant early medieval
carved stones to be found in Scotland in the past 100 years. The experts
believe as much as a third of the bottom portion of the stone could
be
missing, but its unique intricate carved form still exhibits accomplished
knot-work and rare Biblical representations along with more classical
Pictish symbols.
The stone has been claimed by the Crown under Treasure Trove Law and
has
been awarded to St Andrews Museum where it will shortly go on display.
Yesterday, as Mr Speirs showed off the stone at Kilduncan House alongside
the regional archaeologist who identified it, he said this was the
most
important Pictish sculpture find in Fife since the discovery of the
St
Andrews sarcophagus in 1819.
He said, "The discovery sheds considerable light on our understanding
of
the earliest period of Christianity in Fife. It is likely that the
stone
was a grave marker for an important early ecclesiastic or saint.
"Indeed, this is possibly the gravestone of Duncan, that is the Donnchan
or
Duncan connected with the name Kilduncan, who was almost certainly
an early
Celtic saint from Iona."
The stone will be be moved from Marjorie’s garden to be put on display
at
St Andrews Museum.
4. Correction to "Brit-Am Now"-88 re Haftorah

I hope you don't mind my correction

of

The Haftorah for the Second day of Rosh HaShanah is from Jeremiah 31:1-19,
I
certainly noticed it
I also noticed how Ephraim is mentioned in the Musaf for Rosh HaShannah
and
the Exiles of Ashur. I believe
all of this is very significant.
Comment by Brit-Am: Sorry for the misunderstanding, I misread the letter.
That was the second major mistake
I made that morning, that I know about it. It must have been "one of
those
days".
On the Rosh Hashana the return of Lost Ten Tribes seems to be one of
the
common themes. For instance, Isaiah 27:13 is frequently repeated:
[Isaiah 27:13] AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS IN THAT DAY, THAT THE GREAT
TRUMPET SHALL BE BLOWN, AND THEY SHALL COME WHICH WERE READY TO PERISH
IN
THE LAND OF ASSYRIA, AND THE OUTCASTS IN THE LAND OF EGYPT, AND SHALL
WORSHIP THE LORD IN THE HOLY MOUNT AT JERUSALEM.
This is clearly referring to the Lost Ten tribes who were taken into
exile
to Assyria as may be seen from the following verse (28:1)
that mentions "THE DRUNKARDS OF EPHRAIM".
Anyway, concerning the Haftorah, here is the passage that should have
been
referred to:
[Jeremiah 31:1] AT THE SAME TIME, SAITH THE LORD, WILL I BE THE GOD
OF ALL
THE FAMILIES OF ISRAEL, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
[Jeremiah 31:2] THUS SAITH THE LORD, THE PEOPLE WHICH WERE LEFT OF THE
SWORD FOUND GRACE IN THE WILDERNESS; EVEN ISRAEL, WHEN I WENT TO CAUSE
HIM
TO REST.
[Jeremiah 31:3] THE LORD HATH APPEARED OF OLD UNTO ME, SAYING, YEA,
I HAVE
LOVED THEE WITH AN EVERLASTING LOVE: THEREFORE WITH LOVINGKINDNESS
HAVE I
DRAWN THEE.
[Jeremiah 31:4] AGAIN I WILL BUILD THEE, AND THOU SHALT BE BUILT, O
VIRGIN
OF ISRAEL: THOU SHALT AGAIN BE ADORNED WITH THY TABRETS, AND SHALT
GO FORTH
IN THE DANCES OF THEM THAT MAKE MERRY.
[Jeremiah 31:5] THOU SHALT YET PLANT VINES UPON THE MOUNTAINS OF SAMARIA:
THE PLANTERS SHALL PLANT, AND SHALL EAT THEM AS COMMON
THINGS.
[Jeremiah 31:6] FOR THERE SHALL BE A DAY, THAT THE WATCHMEN UPON THE
MOUNT
EPHRAIM SHALL CRY, ARISE YE, AND LET US GO UP TO ZION UNTO THE LORD
OUR
GOD.
[Jeremiah 31:7] FOR THUS SAITH THE LORD; SING WITH GLADNESS FOR JACOB,
AND
SHOUT AMONG THE CHIEF OF THE NATIONS: PUBLISH YE, PRAISE YE, AND SAY,
O
LORD, SAVE THY PEOPLE, THE REMNANT OF ISRAEL.
[Jeremiah 31:8] BEHOLD, I WILL BRING THEM FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY, AND
GATHER THEM FROM THE COASTS OF THE EARTH, AND WITH THEM THE BLIND AND
THE
LAME, THE WOMAN WITH CHILD AND HER THAT TRAVAILETH WITH CHILD TOGETHER:
A
GREAT COMPANY SHALL RETURN THITHER.
[Jeremiah 31:9] THEY SHALL COME WITH WEEPING, AND WITH SUPPLICATIONS
WILL I
LEAD THEM: I WILL CAUSE THEM TO WALK BY THE RIVERS OF WATERS IN A STRAIGHT
WAY, WHEREIN THEY SHALL NOT STUMBLE: FOR I AM A FATHER TO ISRAEL, AND
EPHRAIM IS MY FIRSTBORN.
[Jeremiah 31:10] HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD, O YE NATIONS, AND DECLARE
IT IN
THE ISLES AFAR OFF, AND SAY, HE THAT SCATTERED ISRAEL WILL GATHER HIM,
AND
KEEP HIM, AS A SHEPHERD DOTH HIS FLOCK.
[Jeremiah 31:11] FOR THE LORD HATH REDEEMED JACOB, AND RANSOMED HIM
FROM
THE HAND OF HIM THAT WAS STRONGER THAN
HE.
[Jeremiah 31:12] THEREFORE THEY SHALL COME AND SING IN THE HEIGHT OF
ZION,
AND SHALL FLOW TOGETHER TO THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD, FOR WHEAT, AND
FOR
WINE, AND FOR OIL, AND FOR THE YOUNG OF THE FLOCK AND OF THE HERD:
AND
THEIR SOUL SHALL BE AS A WATERED GARDEN; AND THEY SHALL NOT SORROW
ANY MORE
AT ALL.
[Jeremiah 31:13] THEN SHALL THE VIRGIN REJOICE IN THE DANCE, BOTH YOUNG
MEN
AND OLD TOGETHER: FOR I WILL TURN THEIR MOURNING INTO JOY, AND WILL
COMFORT
THEM, AND MAKE THEM REJOICE FROM THEIR SORROW.
[Jeremiah 31:14] AND I WILL SATIATE THE SOUL OF THE PRIESTS WITH FATNESS,
AND MY PEOPLE SHALL BE SATISFIED WITH MY GOODNESS, SAITH THE
LORD.
[Jeremiah 31:15] THUS SAITH THE LORD; A VOICE WAS HEARD IN RAMAH,
LAMENTATION, AND BITTER WEEPING; RAHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN REFUSED
TO
BE COMFORTED FOR HER CHILDREN, BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT.
[Jeremiah 31:16] THUS SAITH THE LORD; REFRAIN THY VOICE FROM WEEPING,
AND
THINE EYES FROM TEARS: FOR THY WORK SHALL BE REWARDED, SAITH THE LORD;
AND
THEY SHALL COME AGAIN FROM THE LAND OF THE ENEMY.
[Jeremiah 31:17] AND THERE IS HOPE IN THINE END, SAITH THE LORD, THAT
THY
CHILDREN SHALL COME AGAIN TO THEIR OWN BORDER.
[Jeremiah 31:18] I HAVE SURELY HEARD EPHRAIM BEMOANING HIMSELF THUS;
THOU
HAST CHASTISED ME, AND I WAS CHASTISED, AS A BULLOCK UNACCUSTOMED TO
THE
YOKE: TURN THOU ME, AND I SHALL BE TURNED; FOR THOU ART THE LORD MY
GOD.
[Jeremiah 31:19] SURELY AFTER THAT I WAS TURNED, I REPENTED; AND AFTER
THAT
I WAS INSTRUCTED, I SMOTE UPON MY THIGH: I WAS ASHAMED, YEA, EVEN
CONFOUNDED, BECAUSE I DID BEAR THE REPROACH OF MY YOUTH.
5. William Rasmussen: Rosh HaShana
From: William Rasmussen <brasshalom@y...>
Subject: Shalom v'b'richot
Shalom Yair: I would like to add what you said to
Robert Graves. Mr. Graves asked why Rosh HaShanah is
celebrated for two days.
Rosh HaShanah is unique in that it is the only
festival that falls on Rosh Chodesh. Anciently, there
was uncertainty about observing Yom Teruah [Day of Trumpet Blowing]
on the correct calendar day. The uncertainty stems from the
fact that a new moon had to be declared. Thus, the
beginning of the month of Tishri was designated after
the Sanhedrin had officially and sufficiently
interviewed two reliable witnesses who had both seen
the new moon.
Because there was both the issue of Rosh Chodesh and
Yom Teruah occuring at the same time, it would have
been difficult to let everyone know that the New Year
had begun. To solve the problem, a two-day Rosh
HaShanah was begun. This two-day observance was meant
to strengthen observance of the appointed time. In
the Rabbinic point of view, the appointed time was
regarded as Yoma Arikhta, or one long day.
Compounding the problem of declaring the new moon, the
enemies of Israel would often send false signals or
fires to deceive the people in Jerusalem. A two-day
solution was seen as eliminating this problem.
Scripturally, we see in Nehemiah 8:2 that Yom Teruah
was celebrated on the first day of the seventh month.
As we read on in the passage, we see that in verse 13,
they celebrated on the second day: "And on the second
day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of
all the people, the priests and the Levites, unto Ezra
the scribe, even to understand the words of the
Torah." Here we see that in Nehemiah's time, Yom
Teruah was celebrated for two days.
Shalom and may HaShem smile upon you today!, Bill

You may find this shocking of course: The name "Gawain" (Sir Gawain)
is closely linked to old Iranian "Guiw" which is "Giv/Geev" in Farsi.
The Alans spoke Northern Iranian languages and used classical Iranian
names such as "Guiw" or "Geev". The famous knoght lancelot may indeed
himself have been of Iranian stock: Lancelot - Alan -CeLot. Littleton
and Malcor give you more details on these interesting facts of course.
Many icons of western and eastern European culture, folklore as well
as technology can trace their roots to Persia and their Northern
Iranian cousins (the Alans). The above text is a well researched
academic text. You may find some of the following items of interest.
The term "Scot" may have links to the ancient Persian Pahlavi term
"Saka" or "Scythian". In some old Iranian dialects (such as some
varaints of Digor Ossetian) "Saka" means "Friend". The famous "Dutch"
windmill was first constructed in Khorassan eastern Persia (circa 7th
Century AD). Some of the Alans also fused with the Khazar Turks of
the
Caspian Sea. Many of the Polish aristocracy identified themselves with
the ancient Iranian Sarmatians/Alans. The Northern Iranians fused
Greek and Persian architectural styles in what is now the Ukraine and
helped found the basis of Gothic and Merovingian architecture.
Unfortunately, this area of academic endeavor has been neglected for
over 23 years and many academics and jounrals investigating these
areas have either retired or suffered serious lack of funding.
Please feel free to ask any questions of course, especially about the
role of the Alans in European history. As Tadeusz Sulimiirski noted
in
his book "The Sarmatians" (1970)..." the legacy of the Saramtians on
European history is passed over in silence".
Many Thanks & Regards

7. Pliny and the "Arami" Scythians
Pliny (77 CE) b: VI. XIX. states:
"Beyond [the Syr Darya, which the Scythians call the Silis] are some
tribes
of Scythians. To these the Persians have given the general name of
Sacae,
from the tribe nearest to Persia, but old writers call them the Aramii,
and
the Scythians themselves give the name of Chorsari to the Persians
and call
Mount Caucasus Croucasis, which means ˜white with snow."
Comment: Passage helps link Scythians with Israelites since "Arami"
was
possibly another name for Israel. Talmud (Sanhedrin 94) says
Lost Ten tribes went to "Mountains of Snow" and to "Afriki". De Gobineau
("Histoire des Perses" 1869) reports that "Afriki" was the name of
a center
of the Medes apparently close to the Caucasis.
