Joseph F. Dumond (New Moon Sightings) Issues a Warning and Threat!
Brit-Am Replies to New Moon Sightings Threatening.

Extracts:

Introduction
Joseph F. Dumond ("Sighted Moon. Com") is a leading Christian Karaite. He feels our recent article on "Karaites. In Defence of the Oral Tradition" is somehow a threat to his own enterprise. He has therefore sent a missive with barely veiled menace to our humble poor benighted selves. He has also had the effrontery to slander the Rabbinical Sages and the Talmud all in the same breath. He has not balked at  making sexually immoral innuendos concerning people whose shadow he is not fit to pass by.  In the article below we quote his e-mail message in full and then respond to his belligerence.

Joseph F. Dumond (New Moon Sightings) Issues a Warning and Threat!
....it concerns me that you would risk the future sales of your books
...you have quoted rumors and half truths which lowers your credibility in our eyes.
....how to have sex with children under 5 without breaking the commandment of adultery. I have read this...
.....So
Yair please stop with the political bashing that some are pressuring you to do and return the Teaching of the Ten Tribes before you lose all credibility.

Brit-Am Replies to New Moon Sightings Threatening.
Dear Joseph,
We had written against the Karaites from the very beginning. ...
... Also we feel that the times are achanging and that Judah and Joseph need to draw closer together.
This does not mean joining or becoming identical. It does however imply some learning about and a more positive re-appraisal of each other.

3. Miri Burgin: Objections to King David Article
Re:  King David and the Oral Law
http://www.britam.org/DavidandOralLaw.html

Hold on there, I AM a Jew.
but to make a statement that to be accepted into the community of Israel (you mean only the Orthodox Judiasm community) one must accept the oral tradition and the judgement of the sages &  whoever denies the sages denies the Bible and rejects the kingdom of David is wrong wrong wrong.  You couldn't even make sense in your article trying to explain X and Y oppposing rabbis!!!
Get a hold of yourself.
There are some Jews (Satmar) that say that the State of Israel should not even be here and that no one should be living here, and some say not to go on the Temple Mt., etc. etc.,
They think the rest of us are wrong.
I think everybody is crazy but you and me, and sometimes I suspect you.  (as my father used to jokingly say to me...)

Brit-Am Reply:
To become Jewish one should "accept the oral tradition and the judgement of the sages".
That is what they require.
One does not have to become Jewish.
According to my own studies and understanding rejecting the Oral Tradition involves also the rejection of King David.
Others may understand it differently.
I write according to how I understand it.
Others read it, enjoy it, benefit from it, and on some points disagree with it.
It is all part of the game that we hope will lead all of us closer to the truth.

4. Brian Patmore: Observations Concerning Ruth, Joseph and his wife, and Caleb.

Shalom Yair,

Regarding the question of Ruth, I am very interested and I am sure that you are as well.

Ruth was a stranger, if you like who married an Israelite and her first husband died.

She took on the beliefs of Israel and accepted The Almighty as her Elohim.

We are instructed in Torah to make the Ger [sojourner or convert] welcome and admit him or her into the nation upon acceptance of The Almighty and the associated corcumcision of the heart and in the case of men the fore-skin as well.

One great example of this is Kaleb, the first to speak out and defend the word of The Almighty in front of The Almighty and all Israel.

Accordingly Ruth should also be treated with the respect due to an exemplary daughter of Israel.

In the case of Yoseph, his wife was the daughter of the "High-Priest" in the town of "On".

I have seen studies indicating that she was actually an Israelite girl but I do not know if her father or adopted father was a priest of Israel or something else.

So clearly upon the re-unification of the two houses of Israel there will be others who are believers to be included as well and respected also as sons and daughters of Israel as in the time of Moshe and Yoseph.

All the best Yair,

Brian

Brit-Am Reply:
Regarding Caleb we understand he was an Israelite.

Caleb is called the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite (Numbers 32:12, Jos 14:6).
The Kenizzites in the time of Abraham were a Canaanite people (Genesis 15:19).
A clan of Edom (Gen 36:11; I Chr 1:36), and also an early ruler  (Gen 36:15, 42; I Chr 1:53)
was also named Kenaz.
Modern scholars based on the name Kenaz have suggested the Caleb was of non-Israelite descent.
We are inclined to disagree and believe that another explanation will be found more suitable.

5. Jeremiah 1
1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,

2 to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

4 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying:

 5  Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
      Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.

6 Then said I:
      Ah, Lord GOD!
Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.

7 But the LORD said to me:
Do not say, I am a youth,
For you shall go to all to whom I send you,
And whatever I command you, you shall speak.

8 Do not be afraid of their faces,
For I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.

9 Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me:
Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

10 See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms,
To root out and to pull down,
To destroy and to throw down,
      To build and to plant.

11 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what do you see?
And I said, I see a branch of an almond tree [Hebrew: "shakayd"].

12 Then the LORD said to me, You have seen well, for I am diligent  [Hebrew: "shokayd"]  to perform My word.

13 And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, What do you see?
And I said, I see a boiling pot, and it is facing away from the north.

14 Then the LORD said to me:
Out of the north calamity shall break forth
On all the inhabitants of the land.

15 For behold, I am calling
      All the families of the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD;
They shall come and each one set his throne
At the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem,
Against all its walls all around,
And against all the cities of Judah.

16 I will utter My judgments
Against them concerning all their wickedness,
      Because they have forsaken Me,
      Burned incense to other gods,
And worshiped the works of their own hands.

17 Therefore prepare yourself and arise,
And speak to them all that I command you.
Do not be dismayed before their faces,
Lest I dismay you before them.

18 For behold, I have made you this day
A fortified city and an iron pillar,
And bronze walls against the whole land:
      Against the kings of Judah,
      Against its princes,
      Against its priests,
And against the people of the land.

19 They will fight against you,
But they shall not prevail against you.
For I am with you, says the LORD, to deliver you.
