1. Michelle Bowie: Talmudic Saying
Encompassed by Scripture
Re: Brit-Am Now no. 1601
Shalom Yair,
Couldn't help but realize when reading this that you quote from Talmud, that we
see it in Torah in Genesis in the creation verses whereby the phrase "after his
kind" is used which appears to fully support what is said.
# Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi said:
All the works of creation were created in their full height, with their prior
approval as to how they would be,
in their full form... according to their own desire. #
Blessings, mb
Brit-Am Reply: You are correct the verses you refer to are the ones the Talmud bases its
opinion on.
Genesis 1:
11 Then God said, 'Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed,
and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in
itself, on the earth'; and it was so.
21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with
which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird
according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them,
saying, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let
birds multiply on the earth.'
Contrary to the impression that is sometimes given the Talmud is not meant to
replace the Torah or to exist alongside it.
The Talmud and other similar works are meant as an explanation and exploration
of the manifold meanings and their practical applications
encompassed within the Torah.
This is an interesting passage with a valuable straight-forward message
pertinent to Brit-Am studies.
We may therefore write a mini-article with the quotation in full and a bit more
commentary.
God bless you
Yair
2. Discovering Scottish and Jewish
Roots: An Individual Experience.
Greetings:
... I feel I have always been a student of scripture, from Genesis to
Revelation my family on my mothers side being undenominational christian.. My
great grandmother spoke German so I was told I was German. When I researched I
discovered they were really Scotts. McClintocks, Cookes, Dixeys, Dehavens to
name a few. My mother had always told me my sir name R.., was pronounced R...
as if it were French. Then when I was in my early 20s at the urging of my step
father, my mother confessed that my father was Jewish and the name was
originally R..., figure that. As a young boy I often was a guest at my best
friends Passover dinner, their name Epstien. I now think his mother must have
known what I did not. The reason I tell you this is to show how important your
work is . The people must be told, You are blessed that GOD is using you, An
honor indeed. Thank You : Lee
