What is Judaism?
The Approach of Maimonides.

We have explained the basis of Judaism above from the point of view of those who learn and learning Torah is of the upmost importance.
Maimonides however, though he may have been one of the most learned of all time, would not necessarily have taken this position.
Maimonides (1135-1204) was born in Spain but spent his later life in Egypt as physician to King Saladin.
[Remember Robin Hood, King John and his brother King Richard? Saladin was the one Richard fought against.]
Maimonides wrote a major encyclopedical legal work ("Mishneh Torah"), as well as Responsa on major questions, and his Guide to the Perplexed on Torah Philosophy.
For Maimonides the intellectual process of reaching the decisions was much less important than the decisions themselves.
These decisions became Laws and it is these that should be learnt. Each and every law in its practical sense and the learning of it
is a stepping stone towards worship of the Almighty.
The attitude of Maimonides permeates, and may also be a reflection of, the Sephardic (Eastern Jewish) approach.
Differences between the Ashkenazim (Jews whose forefathers sojourned in Europe) and Sephardim exist.
These however are not significant and leading authorities on both sides tend to borrow from and agree with each other.
4. Norway's Problem with Judah!

It may be that Norways efforts on behalf of the Peace Process are in part genuine. Nevertheless, elements of Jew-hatred also exist.
The Oslo Agreement resulted in the death and wounding of thousands of Jews. Norway was partly responsible for this.
Norway, Sweden, and Finland today are basically anti-Israeli.
This reflects a certain serious imperfection on their part.
People from Norway in the past asked and requested that we hide their names from our postings since they feared the ire of others.
Why is this?
In World War-2 the Norwegian Resistance did much to help the Allies. On the other hand there were many Norwegians who co-operated with the Nazis
and the Jews of Norway were mostly exterminated.
The work of Fishel Mael on Naphtali indicates that the representative of Naphtali amongst the Spies was the Primary Instigator against entering the Land.

Proverbs 4:10-18 Get Away from Evil While You Can!

[Proverbs 4:15] Avoid it, do not travel on it;
Turn away from it and pass on.
Avoid it: In Hebrew Parayuhu from the root PRE meaning to uncover, disturb, to pay, to alter the situation, to release from debt, to let go. This gives us the English word FREE since in Hebrew the same letter stands for both P and F. The two sounds (P and F) are interchangeable in the same word-roots and switch around for phonetic and grammatical reasons. It could also be the source of PRAY even though conventional sources trace this word to Old French preier , from the Latin, precari "ask earnestly, beg". When we pray we discharge a debt. We also ask the Almighty to free us, from whatever we need freeing from, by answering our prayer. PRE can mean "pay" and we would also trace the English Word PAY to the same root.
The English word "Fray" means unravel at the edge, loosened, and this is similar to the Hebrew PRE.
We also have the related Hebrew word root PRA connoting wild and untamed. It can also mean an untamed animal. It may have given rise to the English word PREY. [Otherwise traced to Old French preie "booty, animal taken in the chase" .]
In this case we are being told to get out of the Evil trap. Pay if you have to, squirm, struggle, liberate yourself anyway you can but get away from evil and from surroundings that cause you to go bad.
This is how the verse (Proverbs 4:15) could literally be rendered:
# Free yourself from it [i.e. from the evil path], do not pass by it, move away from it, and pass by. #
In other words: It might be difficult. Do what it takes. Get away. Do not look back. Bad people are not your friends.
The same applies in the ideological rational sphere....
