Joseph Coin Joseph Coin

Joseph Coin Joseph Coin

Quoted Extracts:
This coin features the story of Joseph and his Brothers. Joseph was the favorite son of his father Jacob. This and his dreams aroused the jealousy and hatred of his brothers.

Coin Designer Aharon Shevo has skillfully portrayed the transformation of hatred into love. The row of sheaves on the top left-hand-side of the coin turn into hands reaching out to Joseph, shown in the lower part of the coin. The image of Joseph on the right hand side, alludes both to the beginning and end of the story. The depiction of Joseph as second to Pharoah, with the jewels, is a reminder of the Egyptian mural painting style. However, the striped robe reminds us of Joseph, the boy and dreamer. The tear in his eye symbolizes the deep emotions of Joseph as he identified his brothers.

This coin conveys one of the important morals of the story of Joseph and his brothers: how jealousy and hatred can be turned into unity and brotherly love.

Dear Yair,

My paternal "Koch" ancestry has been traced back to the 1500's in Switzerland. I have relatives from this lineage that are pastors, a famous Swiss theologian, Seminary Professors, Bible Scholars...it's everywhere in this lineage. My gr-gr-grandparents came over in the 1850's from Switzerland and had 11 children. Seven of them were Christian pastors, including one female who pastored three Baptist churches. The rest of the 11 siblings were Bible teachers. Another Swiss relative was the first circuit preacher in Wisconsin, and all the family members had set up sort of a seminary or training center in Wisconsin. I have always believed, without real objective proof, that our lineage has some Levi in it because of the family love for the scriptures and the handling and preservation thereof. There is also a leaning toward the law in my family; even I work in the law.

My maternal ancestry on both sides is heavily Scottish and Irish with connections to the High Kings of Ireland.

I know that you have always linked Issachar with Switzerland (and Steve Collins has not). You also said that Issachar, being the close brother of Levi, also had some of the same traits and affinity for the law.

It's an interesting subject, and I also want to encourage the poster with my data and information to keep researching regarding any connection with Levi. On the other hand, I feel many of the attributes of the Finns are also in my paternal ancestry.

I suppose one day we will know the truth! It is such an interesting topic.

Shalom,

Cherie Koch

p.s. My great-great grandfather from Switzerland was Jacob Koch, his father was Jacob Koch, and his father was Jacob Koch. All had duties of being caretakers of their Reformed Evangelical Church in a little pocket in the Alps, and stood against the Catholic church vigorously. It's so interesting how the House of Israel makes it through their diaspora with a faint but real memory of their identity and connection to their ancestral source. It is very faith inspiring to see the Plan of the Ages worked out.

4. Jared Welch: House of David descent

I feel like making a comment or 2 on this article,

THE HOUSE OF DAVID AND THE LOST TRIBES
http://www.britam.org/Tribesman/GeneaologyDavid.html

Mainly the emphasis on Male line being all that counts, here in the context of diminish the perceived significance of the Tea Telphi legend.

Zelophehad provides an exception to this general rule, Numbers:33 and so on. This requires the daughter marry within the Tribe, but these theories claim the husband Tea Telphi married was already descended from Zerah.

The chronology of the Irish invasions is skewed today, the Milesian invasion actually occurred in 504 BC And they where people fleeing Miletus. Since the "Serpent of Dan" article mentions some Judah clans might have traveled with Dan, I find the theory rather pleasurable.

When you study all the names that the Hill supposedly named after Tea Telphi has gone by, you can see how her name might actually have been Tamar before the corruption of Oral tradition.

5. Arieh Levi: Query about Ethiopian Jews.

Dear Yair
I have just finished reading your book of Joseph, I been reading Isaiah 43; 45: & 54: and about CUSH, From the time when the Queen of Sheba visited King Solomon and tradition say she had a son from King Solomon who became King of Ethiopian, I am interested in the History of the Ethiopian Jews since then till the time they made Aliyah to Eretz Israel, is there any History of the Ethiopian Jews that you know of as Part of The House of Israel? They thought they were the only Jews in the world until they met Jews from Europe.
Shalom Arieh

Brit-Am Reply:
In our book "Ephraim" we have a chapter dealing with the Jews from Ethiopia and other matters.
Elements from the Tribes of Dan and Naphtali as well as Jews from Yemen etc may have reached them.
Most of them however, even according to their own records, appear to be descended from converts.
Whatever we are we have to work for it.
If it is inherited we need to work to bring its potential to realization.
If it is inherited less we need to work to make something out of whatever path Divine Providence has directed us to.
Nothing should be taken for granted.

All truth passes through three stages: First it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
