Brit-Am Now no.1887
Ten out of the Twelve Tribes of Israel were exiled and lost their identity. Their descendants are now to be found amongst Western Peoples. They are the Lost Ten Tribes. This is proven from the Bible, Talmud, and Rabbinical Sources as well as from Secular Studies in Ancient History, Archaeology, Mythology, Linguistics, and related fields.

In the notes below we bring news, queries, and updates related to these issues.

1. Mark Williams: Similarities Between the Oral Torahic and Celto-Germanic Law.

Shalom Yair

Has anyone done any research into this? I was watching the second episode of Michael Wood's "People's History of Britain" last night, and during the show mention was made of the financial compensations that were to be paid to a person who suffered injury at the hands of another by the perpetrator. At once it struck me that such a law couldn't have been derived from a straight-forward literal reading of the Old Testament (as one would assume Anglo-Saxon monarchs, or their advisors, would do). The Frisians, Welsh and Irish have similar laws (as, I imagine, did the Picts and other Celtic and Germanic groups). Some quick research revealed that this law predates the introduction of Christianity. So I'm left wondering whether or not it might be a folk memory of the actual oral Torah.

I don't know if any other ancient cultures had similar laws. Or even if this is just a one off coincidence. If anyone has any more information I'd be fascinated to know.

I think you might find the article interesting. Helpful? Maybe, maybe not. But it is interesting.

Thanks and regards

Keep up the good work.

2. Query Concerning the Island of Malta.

Josette wrote:

Shalom and thank you for your emails..

I would like to ask you one question. In your opinion, which tribe, if any, was the tiny nation of Malta from?

I have done a little bit of research, and found out that the actual name of Malta actually meant "Place of Refuge".

I have also heard that this was the reason why Hitler wanted to obliterate our country during WW2, as he knew (not sure how) that Malta's origin in Jewish. Interestingly enough, Malta remained the only country in the world during WW2 which did not shut it's doors to the Jewish refugees fleeing Europe.

I would appreciate any light you can shed on this dear friend. I have had a "supernatural" love for Israel for about 10 years, only recently discovering that I actually have Jewish ancestry on both mother and father's side.

Anyway, I pray all is well with you.

Josette.

Brit-Am Reply:

Shalom,
I do not know much about Malta.
A quick look at the sources suggests that amongst the Maltese may be many from Judah.
The name Malta could indeed be derived from the Hebrew root MLT.
In Ancient Times Israelites and other groups were in Malta. The Phoenicians visited Malta and dolmens are found there.
A quick glance at the history of Malta however indicates that the population changed several times. It was virtually depopulated and then repopulated a few times. The present population seems to be descended from Arabs and Sicilians along with input from French, English, and other sources.

I knew a few Maltese in Australia.
They had a tendency to be devout Catholics of the clean-cut serious kind. Some of them were dark whereas others had red or blond hair. On the whole they seemed an attractive Mediterranean type people.

Malta played an important role in World War-2 and its people behaved with heroic determination and loyalty. Through Malta a supply life-line was maintained with the Allied forces in North Africa..

I heard from a French Jewish friend that the Maltese have a reputation for being anti-Jewish. Your own evidence however as well as a few articles indicates that there is another more positive aspect.

Re
History of the Jews in Malta

Extracts:

# This is further evidenced by the large number of Maltese surnames thought to be of Jewish origin.[6]

# In the medieval era when Mdina was Malta's capital, one-third of its population was Jewish.

The Virtual Jewish History Tour
Malta

Extracts:

# We have evidence that at the time the Phoenicians were occupying Malta, the first Jews landed on Gozo and there they left behind the first signs of their presence. You can find this near the inner apse of the southern temple of Ggantija in Xaghra, one cannot fail to notice that on the ground under your feet is scratched the first Jewish evidence on Gozo.

# This Jewish evidence is an inscription in the Phoenician alphabet, discovered and made known in 1912 by Ms N. Erichson and Ms. R. Cleveland. This inscription is in two lines and has ten words: seven in the first line and three in the second. Translated this inscription reads: "To the love of our Father Jahwe."

# When compared to other Catholic lands, for long periods during the Middle Ages the Jews of Malta, who had settled here from Sicily, Sardinia, North Africa and Spain, lived a fairly independent and prosperous life.
[Later Malta was ruled by a religious order the Knights of Malta and these were oppressive towards the Jews.]

# The surnames of our archipelago carry the trace of this heritage; thus, Attard, Ellul, Salamone, Mamo (name of first independent president of Malta) and Meli would be names of Jewish origin. It appears that Azzopardi, a very widespread name in Malta, would mean Séphardi (One who originated in Spain (Sefarad).

Jewish exploits in Malta

Extracts:

# Of the 72 families inhabiting Malta in the 13th century, 25 were Jewish. Nowadays only about 80 people out of the entire population form part of the Maltese Jewish community.

... the modern-day popularity of Jewish surnames on the island – such as Abela, Amato, Attard, Azzopardi, Bonavita, Castillo, Ciantar, Degiorgio, Enriquez, Ellul, Micallef and Mizzi. #

I am probably not telling you anything new.

Anyway, as an island Malta should probably belong to Britain/Ephraim.

Descendants of Jews in Malta are possibly quite numerous.

The impression however is that non-Israelite elements on the whole are dominant.

Those who are Israelite probably pertain to Judah.

All truth passes through three stages: First it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
