| Psalms 53 TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN UPON MAHALIAH, MASCHIL, A PSALM OF DAVID. [Psalms 53:1] THE FOOL HATH SAID IN HIS HEART, THERE IS NO GOD. CORRUPT ARE THEY, AND HAVE DONE ABOMINABLE INIQUITY: THERE IS NONE THAT DOETH GOOD. This is similar to Psalm 14. There are some changes between the two versions. [Psalms 53:2] GOD LOOKED DOWN FROM HEAVEN UPON THE CHILDREN OF MEN, TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY THAT DID UNDERSTAND, THAT DID SEEK GOD. [Psalms 53:3] EVERY ONE OF THEM IS GONE BACK: THEY ARE ALTOGETHER BECOME FILTHY; THERE IS NONE THAT DOETH GOOD, NO, NOT ONE. [Psalms 53:4] HAVE THE WORKERS OF INIQUITY NO KNOWLEDGE? WHO EAT UP MY PEOPLE AS THEY EAT BREAD: THEY HAVE NOT CALLED UPON GOD. There is a natural reaction amongst people to despise they who are weak and to feel jealous when someone who was down begins to get ahead. Some of the antagonism to the Jews in the State of Israel springs from this source. [Psalms 53:5] THERE WERE THEY IN GREAT FEAR, WHERE NO FEAR WAS: FOR GOD HATH SCATTERED THE BONES OF HIM THAT ENCAMPETH AGAINST THEE: THOU HAST PUT THEM TO SHAME, BECAUSE GOD HATH DESPISED THEM. The King James translation here is acceptable. It can also be translated to say that the enemy thought that God had despised the Jewish people and so he made the mistake of coming against them. [Psalms 53:6] OH THAT THE SALVATION OF ISRAEL WERE COME OUT OF ZION! WHEN GOD BRINGETH BACK THE CAPTIVITY OF HIS PEOPLE, JACOB SHALL REJOICE, AND ISRAEL SHALL BE GLAD. The emphasis is upon Zion. Zionism is the forerunner of the longed for process. We have mentioned before that when Judah and Israel are juxtapostioned then Judah is the Jews while Israel is the Lost Ten Tribes but when , JACOB and ISRAEL are juxtapositioned the Ten Tribes are represented by Jacob and the Jews by Israel. The Ten Tribes should rejoice when Judah returns and they should help them. Indeed they have often done so in the past. Nevertheless as we saw in Jerusalem News-453 #8. People who sin are foolish and in effect harm themselves and others. [Psalms 14:2] THE LORD LOOKED DOWN FROM HEAVEN UPON THE CHILDREN OF MEN, TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY THAT DID UNDERSTAND, AND SEEK GOD. From this we learn that God wants us to try to understand His will as much as we are able and to seek HIM. [Psalms 14:3] THEY ARE ALL GONE ASIDE, THEY ARE ALL TOGETHER BECOME FILTHY: THERE IS NONE THAT DOETH GOOD, NO, NOT ONE. We become filthy by not removing that which contaminates us and by not seeking means to cleanse and better ourselves. Every person has his own individual source of putrefaction that he should endeavor to remove, as he/she can. [Psalms 14:4] HAVE ALL THE WORKERS OF INIQUITY NO KNOWLEDGE? WHO EAT UP MY PEOPLE AS THEY EAT BREAD, AND CALL NOT UPON THE LORD. The non-Israelite nations of the world as well as many (most) of those in which Lost Israelites are dominant are guided by evil men who wish to destroy or diminish the State of Israel. They do not know the Almighty but HE is taking note of them. [Psalms 14:5] THERE WERE THEY IN GREAT FEAR: FOR GOD IS IN THE GENERATION OF THE RIGHTEOUS. "GENERATION": In Hebrew "dor" literally meaning "generation" but S.R. Hirsch interprets it to mean "History". Both explanations are correct. Through the histories of the Israelite nations one can see the Presence of the Almighty. Also when the generation is righteous the Almighty mistakes HIS presence felt more openly. [Psalms 14:6] YE HAVE SHAMED THE COUNSEL OF THE POOR, BECAUSE THE LORD IS HIS REFUGE. In the past they despised those who believed in the Almighty and trusted in HIM. [Psalms 14:7] OH THAT THE SALVATION OF ISRAEL WERE COME OUT OF ZION! WHEN THE LORD BRINGETH BACK THE CAPTIVITY OF HIS PEOPLE, JACOB SHALL REJOICE, AND ISRAEL SHALL BE GLAD. The final Redemption of ALL Israel will begin with the return of the Jews to Zion. |
