Isaiah -Chapter 20
[Isaiah 20:1] IN THE YEAR THAT TARTAN CAME UNTO ASHDOD, (WHEN SARGON THE
KING OF ASSYRIA SENT HIM,) AND FOUGHT AGAINST ASHDOD, AND TOOK IT;
[
TARTAN denotes very high ranking official in Assyria. Tartan dersign in Scotland
also denoted rank. Joseph wore a tartan cloak which denoted rank which was
why his brothers were jealous of him. Tamar the daughter of David and apparently
all the royal children also wore tartan decorated clothes. Some of the Jewish
reistance fighters against the Romans at the fortress of Masada wore
wooled clothing imported from Britain with a tartan design. We have written
of this elsewhere.
[Isaiah 20:2] AT THE SAME TIME SPAKE THE LORD BY ISAIAH
THE SON OF AMOZ, SAYING, GO AND LOOSE THE SACKCLOTH FROM OFF THY LOINS, AND
PUT OFF THY SHOE FROM THY FOOT. AND HE DID SO, WALKING NAKED AND BAREFOOT.
[Isaiah 20:3] AND THE LORD SAID, LIKE AS MY SERVANT ISAIAH HATH
WALKED NAKED AND BAREFOOT THREE YEARS FOR A SIGN AND WONDER UPON EGYPT AND
UPON ETHIOPIA;
[
“ETHIOPIA” in Hebrew is “Cush”. The Aramaic does not translate Cush here
as Hodu (India) but leaves it as it is indicating that the Sudan or Ethiopia
or Africa in general is indicated.
We have emphasized often the Rabbinical Principle that only Prophecies that
were pertinent to the Last days were written down. The Prophets dressed future
prophecy in descriptions of events that had taken place or were about to
do so. It is in the minor deviations from what actually happened that we
glimpse the future message. Here Isaiah is describing something that more
or less happened aboput 40 to 50 years after his time. He is also describing
something that will happen in the future. We must understand what he is saying
on both levels.
“Egypt” (Hebrew: Mitsrayim) can also refer to Russia and “Cush” to India or Central Asia.
Some of the Assyrians did settle in parts of Germany as described very well by Craig White.
Perhaps the Europeans or Germans will take captive slave labor from Russia and Central Asia and/or India?
[Isaiah 20:4] SO SHALL THE KING OF ASSYRIA LEAD AWAY THE EGYPTIANS
PRISONERS, AND THE ETHIOPIANS CAPTIVES, YOUNG AND OLD, NAKED AND BAREFOOT,
EVEN WITH THEIR BUTTOCKS UNCOVERED, TO THE SHAME OF EGYPT.
[
[Isaiah 20:5] AND THEY SHALL BE AFRAID AND ASHAMED OF ETHIOPIA
THEIR EXPECTATION, AND OF EGYPT THEIR GLORY.
[
[Isaiah 20:6] AND THE INHABITANT OF THIS ISLE SHALL SAY IN THAT
DAY, BEHOLD, SUCH IS OUR EXPECTATION, WHITHER WE FLEE FOR HELP TO BE DELIVERED
FROM THE KING OF ASSYRIA: AND HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE?
[
“THIS ISLE” IN Hebrew “ey” the same as in Old Anglo-Saxon and Celtic. It
means island. The Commentators say it refers to the Land of Israel which
is on the coast and an entity in its own right. It is therefore (they say)
like an island> This explanation is farfetched. Some say it refers to
Cyprus which was once ruled by Israelites from the Tribe of Dan. The Assyrians
termed Cyrpus “Ydnna” or the Isle of the Dananites. It could refer to Britain
which is an island. If the Europeans and Germany ever did finish off Russia
Britain would be dismayed since the balance of power would worsen against
her.
