Regarding Hosea 11 - specifically verse 12. Those of us who do not understand
Hebrew and have the Word only in English are faced with a translational dilemma.
While one would expect any 'word-for-word' translations to approximate the
Hebrew understanding, this particular verse is rendered with a positive comment
about Judah in some versions and a negative comment in others. It makes an
enormous difference, which is not picked up unless one studies with several
versions, and creates yet another (and unnecessary) barrier between Judah and
Ephraim. For example:
King James - "Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel
with deceit; But Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints."
NIV - "Ephraim has surrounded me with lies, the house of Israel
with deceit. And Judah is unruly against God, even against the faithful Holy
One."
For those who are interested, versions positive towards Judah are King James,New
King James, English Standard, New Living, New Revised Standard.
Versions negative towards Judah are New International, New American Standard,
Amplified, Contemporary English, The Message (hands down worst version in my
opinion - not only technically wrong, but insulting!) This problem gives new
meaning to the phrase 'on the same page'!

Brit-Am Comment:
Our ire was aroused by the Scroll referring to President Bush as:
"Esteemed Mr. George W. Bush, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal (Ezekiel
38:1), leader of the west!"
This to our minds ascribed non-Israelite origin to the Americans and their
allies.
We listened to Rabbi Richman and he says that the title is symbolic and refers to the task being fulfilled and not ancestral identification.
The Title, says Rabbi Richman, refers to the Role President Bush appears to
have chosen for himself.
Taram Yonah pointed out that Gog, Meshech, and Tubal etc are usually understood
as referring to Russia and neighboring regions.
Rabbi Richman replied that the term should be understood as applying to the role
being played.
If President Bush fills the Role then he deserves the title.
Rabbi Richman said that if President Bush is not Gog even though his actions
show he is (or may be) then he has to prove he is not.
The program is worth hearing.

The Megillat Bush letter is an excellent, prophetic letter. The terms used
are no different than when calling some one Amalek when they may not be
physically Amalek, but do represent what Amalek represents to us. Calling
Bush the high prince of Meshech and Tubal is symbolic in the same light
since they fit the description of what the two terms mean in relation to
Bush's trip. We both know that neither Rabbi Richmond nor Rabbi Steinzaltz
meant this literally. I realize that most of your recipients might not
understand this, but you do and I was surprised that you played ignorant of
this and coddled their ignorance instead of explaining it like this. I agree
100% with their statement regarding the fact that they're assuming that Bush
would go for the 2-State Road Map to Oblivion push, thus their "title" at
the beginning. And what did Bush do when he got there? Just as they
predicted! So the "title" fit perfectly. The only people who should have
been "offended" by this letter are the Goyim/Yehudim that support the
Palestinians and the genocidal "two state" solution. If President Bush fits
that profile, then that's his prerogative, but it is not a biblical one,
just a political one. Just my thoughts on this.
