Dear Yair, A question concerning MBJ

I read through the related commentary concerning Messiah ben Joseph and the prophet Elijah as well. Is it at all possible MBJ will identify himself with Judah, thus giving Him a very good knowledge of torah, tanak and the sages, yet be from, or at least residing at the proper time in the nation from which he should emerge? is this at all possible? Thanks for your time, and best regards, Robert

Answer: Different sources give different impressions and often contradict each other.
The important thing is that as well as being a specific individual it is also a process.
We can work for it and be part of it.
This is the Principle of Zionism which is preparing the way for both Messiah ben Joseph and Messiah ben David.
I see a parallel in some ways with Napoleon.
Napoleon was a controversial figure but he achieved much.
He served as a general in the Revolutionary armies of France, then became dictator, made himself Emperor, conquered much of Europe and was eventually defeated. Everywhere he went he and those who served under him introduced important reforms. Many of these reforms endured after him and still remain in effect in Europe.
Napoleon did not emerge from a vacuum.
Under the French Monarchy there was a movement of intellectuals and other activists towards reform and progress. Then came the French Revolution and a release of energies that had been building up over the previous decades. This was followed by the Napoleonic Era that brought all the different elements together and gave them expression.
Napoleon was driven by impure motives and failed in part though he also left much that was positive behind him.
None of us  (who are normal) imagine ourselves to be either the Messiah ben Joseph or the Messiah ben David.
[There are however a surprising number of otherwise regular people who do suffer from such delusions.
It was once proposed that they form their own political party!]
Nevertheless we can all still do our part. By studying these matters, especially Brit-Am Biblical and Secular Proofs concerning the Lost Ten Tribes, deepening our awareness of them and helping spread knowledge of them will be making a contribution. All this should be done while leading good lives and remaining useful members of society.
