Hello Yair, Stephen,
I don't think there is a need to apologize when sincerely debating
scripture. I'm often in error too. That's how we learn. The only reason I
brought up the history of past battles between Manasseh and Ephraim is that
it goes to my point that I can't conclude that Isaiah 9 was pointing to
recent history.
Certainly we all agree than one of the warnings is that M and E should stand
together with Judah and that we'll all suffer if we don't. My hope and
prayer is that somehow the US and all Israelite nations will come to their
senses and support Israel.
Sincerely,
Dave
[1-Chronicles 4:38] THESE [from the Tribe of Simeon] MENTIONED BY THEIR NAMES WERE PRINCES IN THEIR FAMILIES: AND THE HOUSE OF THEIR FATHERS INCREASED GREATLY.The Book of Chronicles in the verses above, in effect tells us that there were two major movements of Simeon. One movement was to the Plains of Gedor formerly possessed by Hamites. The second movement was initiated by 500 men under the sons of Ishi. The second movement was a continuation of the first. It involved "THE SONS OF ISHI": According to the Talmud (Baba Batra 123, 300-500 CE) "the sons of Ishi" were descended from Ishi who is listed later (1-Chronicles 5:23-26)?amongst the Princes of half Manasseh east of the Jordan who were taken into Exile by the Assyrians. The men of Simeon led by the sons of Ishi went northward. They had placed themselves under the leadership of the sons of Ishi who were a Princely Family of the half-tribe of Manasseh. The father of this family was listed amongst the Princes of Manasseh who in the exile of the Northern Israelites were taken to "HALAH, AND HABOR, AND HARA, AND TO THE RIVER GOZAN" [1-Chronicles 5:26]. Rabbinical Tradition linked this movement of Manasseh-led Simeonites to the foundation of the Khazar nation.
[1-Chronicles 4:39] AND THEY WENT TO THE ENTRANCE OF GEDOR, EVEN UNTO THE EAST SIDE OF THE VALLEY, TO SEEK PASTURE FOR THEIR FLOCKS.
[1-Chronicles 4:40] AND THEY FOUND FAT PASTURE AND GOOD, AND THE LAND WAS WIDE, AND QUIET, AND PEACEABLE; FOR THEY OF HAM HAD DWELT THERE OF OLD.
[1-Chronicles 4:41- AND THESE WRITTEN BY NAME CAME IN THE DAYS OF HEZEKIAH KING OF JUDAH, AND SMOTE THEIR TENTS, AND THE HABITATIONS THAT WERE FOUND THERE, AND DESTROYED THEM UTTERLY UNTO THIS DAY, AND DWELT IN THEIR ROOMS: BECAUSE THERE WAS PASTURE THERE FOR THEIR FLOCKS.
[1-Chronicles 4:42] AND SOME OF THEM, EVEN OF THE SONS OF SIMEON, FIVE HUNDRED MEN, WENT TO MOUNT SEIR, HAVING FOR THEIR CAPTAINS PELATIAH, AND NEARIAH, AND REPHAIAH, AND UZZIEL, THE SONS OF ISHI.
[1-Chronicles 4:43] AND THEY SMOTE THE REST OF THE AMALEKITES THAT WERE ESCAPED, AND DWELT THERE UNTO THIS DAY.
Talmud (Baba Batra 123,b) Ishi was of the Children of Manasseh as it says,
AND THESE WERE THE HEADS OF THE HOUSE OF THEIR FATHERS [of Manassseh] , EVEN EPHER, AND ISHI [1-Chronicles 5:24].
[1-Chronicles 5:23] AND THE CHILDREN OF THE HALF TRIBE OF MANASSEH DWELT IN THE LAND: THEY INCREASED FROM BASHAN UNTO BAALHERMON AND SENIR, AND UNTO MOUNT HERMON.So far the Khazars are not mentioned but Simeon being lead by Princes from Manasseh are.
[1-Chronicles 5:24] AND THESE WERE THE HEADS OF THE HOUSE OF THEIR FATHERS, EVEN EPHER, AND ISHI, AND ELIEL, AND AZRIEL, AND JEREMIAH, AND HODAVIAH, AND JAHDIEL, MIGHTY MEN OF VALOUR, FAMOUS MEN, AND HEADS OF THE HOUSE OF THEIR FATHERS.
[1-Chronicles 5:25] AND THEY TRANSGRESSED AGAINST THE GOD OF THEIR FATHERS, AND WENT A WHORING AFTER THE GODS OF THE PEOPLE OF THE LAND, WHOM GOD DESTROYED BEFORE THEM.
[1-Chronicles 5:26] AND THE GOD OF ISRAEL STIRRED UP THE SPIRIT OF PUL KING OF ASSYRIA, AND THE SPIRIT OF TILGATHPILNESER KING OF ASSYRIA, AND HE CARRIED THEM AWAY, EVEN THE REUBENITES, AND THE GADITES, AND THE HALF TRIBE OF MANASSEH, AND BROUGHT THEM UNTO HALAH, AND HABOR, AND HARA, AND TO THE RIVER GOZAN, UNTO THIS DAY.

##Whether these 500 really did found the Khazar nation or not is largely irrelevant. The point is that Khazar traditions, early Jewish reports, and the writings of their Gentile neighbors all recall the belief that the Khazars were descended from Israelites Tribes with Manasseh and Simeon usually being mentioned.##
Greetings Yair,
You mentioned in your email on ?Parshat Korach? that your KJV version is missing verses 14 through 28 for Numbers 17.
http://www.britam.org/numbers/5korach.html
You then mentioned that you have quoted those verses from the Jewish translation of the Masoretic text; however, they are missing also from your email?your chapter 17 ends with verse 13, as it does also in the KJV. You then immediately move to chapter 18.
Are we are to understand, perhaps, that verses 1-15 of Numbers 18 should have instead been numbered 14-28 and added to chapter 17, and that the remaining verses of chapter 18 (16-32) should have been numbered 1-17 instead? In other words, was this simply a variant chapter break by the translators of the KJV, and in actuality all of the verses are accounted for in these two chapters?
Regards,
Bob Briggs

Brit-Am Reply:
Yes.
You are correct.
We will be altering the relevant notice from our Commentary to Korach
http://www.britam.org/numbers/5korach.html
It should be pointed out that the chapter numbering used in our Jewish Masoretic
text is itself of Christian
origin. The Hebrew original has its own divisions that are quite different.
In the New Koren editions the original divisions are given alongside the
conventional Christian ones.
So too in The Living Torah by Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan the traditional Hebrew
divisions are given alongside the
Christian ones.
The particular Christian division (why this version and not another, I do not
know) used by the Jews is found only in the Printed book texts.
Anyway the particular Christian division used by Jews differs in our portion
from the King James.
In my Jewish version chapter 16 ends at 16:35.
We then have chapter 17 which corresponds with the KJ 16:36-50 AND THEN
CONTINUES.
The KJ chapter 17 corresponds with 17:16-28 in my version.
From chapter 18 they return to synchronization.
The Tie That Binds
Even those who don't follow theTrumpet.com can see from newspaper headlines that the brotherhood nations of the United States, Britain and Israel are, even now is in the midst of an astonishing free fall from their former positions of world dominance. Coinciding with this precipitous decline in world power and influence is the unraveling relationship that once bound these three brothers so tightly together. The Prophet Isaiah described this dramatic unraveling: "Manasseh shall devour Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh; Together they shall be against Judah ." (Isaiah 9:21, New King James Version).
This is clearly happening before our eyes.
Earlier this week, the United States concluded a deal that allowed four Guantanamo detainees to settle in the British colony of Bermuda, without first telling British officials about the arrangement. According to the Independent, Whitehall officials accused the United States of treating Britain "with barely disguised contempt." It quoted one senior official as saying, "This is not the kind of behavior one expects from an ally."
Even as the United States and Britain exchange blows with one another, both of them remain united in their contempt for Israel. President Obama's Cairo speech perfectly summarized Washington's renunciation of any special relationship it once had with Israel.
Britain has followed a similar course for some time now. In December, Gordon Brown wrote a letter to the Palestinian Authority prime minister to express his "frustration" over the settlement activity. That same month, the British government issued an advisory warning to British citizens telling them not to purchase property in East Jerusalem, the West Bank or the Golan Heights-territories 10 Downing Street envisions as a future Palestinian state.
In Israel, the advisory was viewed "as the latest in a series of less-than-friendly steps toward Israel" (Jerusalem Post).
Yet, despite the unraveling ties that once bound these three brothers together, all three nations are inextricably linked together by another end-time prophecy, which points to our simultaneous downfall (Hosea 5:5). Both prophecies, in fact, are closely related. For the weakening of those once mighty ties that bound together the United States, Britain and Judah is only making our peoples more vulnerable to the threat of invasion by ascending world powers!
