Oil baron seeks gusher from God in Israel

Mon Apr 4, 2:55 PM ET

KIBBUTZ MAANIT, Israel (Reuters) - A Texas oilman is using his Bible as a guide to finding oil in the Holy Land.

John Brown, a born-again Christian and founder of Zion Oil & Gas of Dallas, can quote chapter and verse about his latest drilling venture in Israel, where his company has an oil and gas exploration licence covering 96,000 acres.

"Most blessed of sons be Asher. Let him be favoured by his brothers and let him dip his foot in oil," Brown quotes from Moses's blessing to one of the 12 Tribes of Israel in Deuteronomy 33:24.

Standing next to a 54-metre (177-ft)-high derrick at Kibbutz Maanit in northern Israel, Brown said the passage indicated there is oil lying beneath the biblical territory of the Tribe of Asher, where the agricultural community is located.

Geological surveys and an attempt by an Israeli-based company to find oil at the same site 10 years ago, a venture he said was abandoned for lack of funds, led Brown to pick the spot where new drilling will begin this week.

Brown said he raised money for "Project Joseph" from fellow evangelical Christians in the United States.

"From the investment standpoint, they certainly hope to have a return of the money," he said. "But the basis of it is Genesis, chapter 12."

In that passage, God promises to shower blessings on those who bless the "great nation" sired by the Hebrew patriarch Abraham.

3.Ted Dornan: RE: Beware of False Reports!

Shalom Yair:

Thank you for being a source of accurate reports. That is certainly more than we can expect from the media in general, and certain biased ones in particular.

It has been my general observation that if you tell people the truth, the majority of them will call you a liar. The bigger and more preposterous the lie, the more they will praise you for telling the truth.

Of one thing we can be certain: The culture whose foundation and building blocks are false reports will implode upon its members. The culture built and maintained on truth will outlast them all, to the glory of the Creator who founded it.

Shalom shalom.

Ted Dornan

We are commanded to make a house [i.e., a Temple] for Ha-Shem, as it says "And they shall make Me a Sanctuary".1 Since the time of David it is forbidden to make this Temple anywhere but on mount Moriah in Jerusalem, as it says "And David said: This is the house of Ha-Shem the G-d",2 and it says "This is My eternal resting place".3 The Sanctuary and the city of Jerusalem were sanctified by Solomon; they remain holy even when the Temple does not exist. They can be added to only by a king, a prophet, and a Sanhedrin. We are commanded to respect the Temple, as it says "And you shall fear My Sanctuary".4,a

On this day in 1951, the Stone of Destiny was returned to Westminster Abbey in England after being found in Abroath Abbey. All Scottish kings were crowned sitting on the stone before its theft by Edward I of England. Scottish nationalists had stolen the stone from Westminster the previous year. Legend has it that the Stone of Destiny was used as a pillow by Jacob, whose sons founded ten of the twelve tribes of Israel. For more stories on Scotland's heritage

9. Meaning of the Name "Celt"
Subject: Re: "Brit-Am Now"-542
Question
I have also read that "Celt" comes from "keltoi", meaning foreigner, stranger, barbarian. Which definition is correct?
N. J.

That is a new explanation to me but it could be. The word "Wales" is also said to be derived from a Germanic root meaning "foreigner".
The Ancient Peoples (Hebrews, Greeks, Romans, etc) were in the habit of interpreting every foreign word they heard according to the meaning of a similar sounding word in their own language.
Also a name could originally have one meaning and be-interpreted or modified later to have another. Explanations from Ancient writers (as well as modern ones) concerning the meaning of the names of OTHER peoples have therefore to be considered with some reservation.
I recently saw that the name "Celt" in Gaul was widely spread amongst people who are considered Celts and who applied the name to themselves. Assuming the report is correct, the name "Celt" was therefore unlikely to mean "foreigner" but you never know.
The two most widely accepted explanations for the name Celt appear to be: a. A derivation of "ceilt" meaning concealment.
b. A shortened form of Galatae (Calatae? in Spain).
The term "Scott" is also said to connote "Hidden" in Greek whereas in Scottish(?) is said to mean "wanderer". The word "Hebrew" (Ivri or "Ibri" in Hebrew) could also be understood to connote "wanderer" or "migrant".
All these names and their various meanings DO have significance when considered in the light of traditions, folklore, and legends concerning the Lost ten Tribes.
