1. New Light on the Situation from Micah?
I was always puzzled by a passage in Micah chapter seven. I still do not
understand the passage but perhaps it is referring to a possible return of
Joseph to Bashan, Gilead (Syria), and Lebanon via the present invasion of Iraq?
Time will tell. I am not prophesying just suggesting. The passage is here
for your consideration.
[Micah 7:12] IN THAT DAY ALSO HE SHALL COME EVEN TO THEE FROM ASSYRIA,
AND FROM THE FORTIFIED CITIES, AND FROM THE FORTRESS EVEN TO THE RIVER, AND
FROM SEA TO SEA, AND FROM MOUNTAIN TO MOUNTAIN.
<<AND FROM THE FORTIFIED CITIES, AND FROM THE FORTRESS>>: The Hebrew
translated as "THE FORTIFIED CITIES" is "ari Matzor" and the word
translated as FORTRESS is "Matzor". This word "Matzor" can indeed mean
fortress or when used as an adjective "fortifed" but it can also refer to
an area in the northwest of present-day Iraq, i.e. Eastern Azerbaijan and
Kurdistan.
<<EVEN TO THEE FROM ASSYRIA>>: The Commentaries seem divided on this.
ALL AGREE however that FROM ASSYRIA means the return of those exiled to
Assyria, i.e. the Lost Ten Tribes.
It seems that, The rest of the verse is actually separate and describes the
future borders.
[Micah 7:13] NOTWITHSTANDING THE LAND SHALL BE DESOLATE BECAUSE OF THEM
THAT DWELL THEREIN, FOR THE FRUIT OF THEIR DOINGS.
[Micah 7:14] FEED THY PEOPLE WITH THY ROD, THE FLOCK OF THINE HERITAGE,
WHICH DWELL SOLITARILY IN THE WOOD, IN THE MIDST OF CARMEL: LET THEM FEED
IN BASHAN AND GILEAD, AS IN THE DAYS OF OLD.
BASHAN AND GILEAD mean the present-day regions of Syria and Jordan.
Zechariah 10;10 says that Ephraim will possess Lebanon and Gilead meaning
Lebanon and Syria! These areas actually also include parts of Turkey and Iraq.

3. Question: What does the USA get out of support for Israel?
Answer:
That Israel benefits from the US support goes without saying.
Much of this support requires Israel to use it to purchase goods and services
in the USA. This enables economies of scale for several key US industries
especially in the military field.
Israel often introduces changes and improvements into what it purchases and
this enables the US to frequently
upgrade its own products giving them a cutting edge on the world scene.
Israeli intelligence services help the USA against terror and enmity.
Israeli researches also contribute much. As far as innovation is concerned
Israeli research may be more valuable than
that of all Europe put together and the contribution is certainly more
accessible and pragmatic.
Israel is also an outpost of American influence. From a geo-political point
of view Israel, Britain, and the USA are in several respects
one entity.
Israel in a sense represents the symbolic essence of the USA and the
feeling in many senses is reciprocated.
