1. Question on Sephardim and Captive Jews
>Any recent info. on returning Sephardim. The site you posted
>www.sephardim.com, is a very interesting site with lots of info. I found
>my family Coat of  Arms (two lions and two olive branches divided into
>four) and  information on locations of  jewish communities where my family
>name was located. Thank you for posting it!
>How much proof is proof, to where Israel would allow a lost sephardim to
>return ?
>Thank you again
>Hashem bless you and keep you,
>Rhonda
Answer:
No matter what the evidence it is very unlikely that you would  be accepted
as Jewish by the authorities
at present  if a lapse in observance of several generations  has occurred.
You would be classifiable as a "Marrano" or Captive Jew.
The "Captive Jews" are in the same category as the Lost Ten Tribes.
Their legal status is usually discussed in Jewish Law alongside that of the
Lost Ten Tribes.
Prophecy and Commentaries indicate that their destiny is bound up with that
of the Lost Ten Tribes.
Brit-Am  by rights endeavors to represent both the Lost Ten Tribes and the
"Captive Jews"
God bless you

2. Questions on the reaction of others and the purpose of it all

Answers:
(a) My request to spread the message meant that one should perhaps inform
acquaintances and relatives who MIGHT be interested
and even that once only.  Let them know that these ideas exist and are
respectably represented. That may be enough.
We will keep going and eventually should see results. Even now things
appear to be changing for the better.
I received your letter just after I saw the beginning of a movie (Conquest
of Paradise by Ridley Scott) about Christopher
Columbus.
Columbus was quoted as saying:
"Nothing that results in human progress is achieved by unanimous consent.
Those who are enlightened before the others are condemned to pursue that
enlightenment despite the others".
Your question as I understand it was, "Supposing one knows oneself to be of
Jewish or Israelitish origin What use is all this information?"
First of all you yourself apparently began collecting information  about
your family before you became acquainted with us.
Nearly everyone has some interest in who their forebears were even though
the information is unlikely to be of any practical
assistance in day to day life.
The information we help provide does more than satisfy curiosity. It also
tells us something about ourselves and families
and what our future obligations and destiny may well be. It raises our
consciousness to another plain.
In the future it will have importance.
The whole of what is good in the world today directly or indirectly owes
much to the Bible. The Bible is the greatest and most important book ever
written. The Bible is the word of God. Most of the Bible speaks about and
speaks to the Children of Israel.
Would it not be in your interest to be aware that you physically are part
of the people spoken about?
3. Question about Israel and Judah in the Bible
>Shalom, can you tell me why in several places in the book of Judges and
>Samuel it speaks of the House of Israel and Judah.  It doesnt make sense
>to me because at that time it was just the 12 tribes of Israel.  This
>obviously was before King David united the Kingdom and of course before it
>split into 2 Kingdoms. See 1 Kings 1:35, 1 Sam.11:8 and 1 Sam.17:52 but
>there are others as well.
>
>Thanks alot
>John
Answer:
It appears that from the very beginning the two groups had become
differentiated: Judah dominated  the south, and Joseph the north.
[1-Samuel 11:8] AND WHEN HE [Samuel] NUMBERED THEM IN BEZEK, THE CHILDREN
OF ISRAEL WERE THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND, AND THE MEN OF JUDAH THIRTY
THOUSAND.
[1-Samuel 17:52] AND THE MEN OF ISRAEL AND OF JUDAH AROSE, AND SHOUTED, AND
PURSUED  THE PHILISTINES, UNTIL THOU COME TO THE VALLEY, AND TO THE GATES
OF EKRON. AND THE  WOUNDED OF THE PHILISTINES FELL DOWN BY THE WAY TO
SHAARAIM, EVEN UNTO GATH, AND UNTO EKRON.
[1-Kings 1:35] THEN YE SHALL COME UP AFTER HIM, THAT HE MAY COME AND SIT
UPON MY  THRONE; FOR HE SHALL BE KING IN MY STEAD: AND I HAVE APPOINTED HIM
[Solomon] TO BE RULER OVER ISRAEL AND OVER JUDAH.
Even in the story of Joseph and his brothers: It is Judah who makes the
final decisions (Genesis 37:26) and Judah who entreats Joseph on behalf of
Benjamin (Genesis 44:18).
Judah was promised the rulership but Joseph received the right of firstborn
and this too entailed a potential for division.
[1-Chronicles 5:2] FOR JUDAH PREVAILED ABOVE HIS BRETHREN, AND OF HIM
CAME THE CHIEF RULER; BUT THE BIRTHRIGHT WAS JOSEPH'S:)
This ties in with the Brit-Am explanation (derived from traditional
sources) that the division between the two halves of Israel that later
occurred had a Divine purpose.
Judah was to keep the Law and Joseph to elevate humanity.
4. British Israel Sources
>Hello Brit-Am   Would you please give the book and verse of the Bible when
>you say " The Bible says"
>Some of what you say is true. Some is very similar to British
>Israel.Historically this is very interesting.
>Thank You,   Sincerely,
>
V. Potvin
Answer:
In our research we used British Israelite literature and whatever material
we could obtain even if it was only remotely connected and even if the
sources were not consistent with our own beliefs. The sources for claims
made in our statement " The Bible says" are to be found in
our List of Biblical Proofs that was sent out to the list and which I am
re-sending to you.

Answer:
We believe that certain tribes became predominate in specific nations.
This is indicated by Biblical precedent, the historical names of Israelite
groups who settled in definable areas, national characteristics,
symbols, and Biblical Prophecy.
6. Tithing and Descent by Mother or Father

Answers:
(a) Tithing strictly speaking applied to agricultural produce. Jewish
custom in most communities
has been  to put aside between 10 and 20 per cent of net income for charity.
Some opinions consider this a religious-legal obligation, others say it is
only a worthy practice.
Charity can include any needy cause including helping grown members of
one's family.
Assistance to religious causes and learning was especially recommended.
Roughly speaking in Biblical times 10 per cent of agricultural produce
would go to
the Levites (paralleled by religious purposes and learning) and 10 per cent
to charity
or to the festival needs of one's own family or to a member of one's family
who dwelt permanently in Jerusalem.
Commentators have said that the aim was to have at least one member of each
family group dwelling with his wife and children
permanently in Jerusalem and learning, and supported by the tithes of
family members.
(b) I do not know about the Arabs. Jewish law says that whether or not one
is Jewish depends on whether your mother
was Jewish. On the other hand which tribe you belong to is determined by
your father.
7. Biblical Proofs  nos 41-111. THE TRIBE OF BENJAMIN
Most of Benjamin went with Judah and are to be found amongst the Jews,
possibly especially in the East European section of Ashkenazi (European) Jews.
Nevertheless, a segment of Benjamin also was attached to the Lost Ten Tribes.
THE CLANS OF BENJAMIN
BENJAMIN
Archaeological finds from Mari on the central Euphrates report the
existence of a group of Benjaminites together with elements of Reuben in
the region. This shows that ALREADY IN Biblical times a segment of Benjamin
had broken away and gone northward. The association with Reuben was to be a
recurring feature of Benjaminites in exile.
Belah (Bela-g-h) = Belagae (in Gaul, Ireland, and Britain).
Becher = see Becher of Ephraim, similarity of name often presaged future
combination.
Ashbel
Gera -
Ashbel and Gera are similar to tribal names found in ancient Northern
germany and Scandinavia but the association is not certain.
Naaman = Nemetae (north of Gaul), Namnete (in Brittania - Normandia
possibly also from Nemuel of Simeon).
Ehi (Ahi).
Rosh = Rus (Vikings in Russia), Ross (Scotch Highlands).
Muppim = Menapi (in Ireland, Celtic Britain, and Belgium, and in Bactria
east of the Caspian).
Huppim = Heath (in Anglo-Saxon England).
Ard = Ardueni (in Belgium).
