1. History: Tartan in Scotland
http://www.scottish-tartans-society.co.uk/
The history of tartan is as old as the Scots people themselves dating back
to the 5th century when they arrived from Ireland with their "woollen cloth
of different colours", and it remains as it began as a symbol of clan and
national identity.
However, in its original form, a rough woollen cloth worn as a plaid,
tartan had a highly practical function of providing warmth and shelter from
the harsh Scottish weather. Over the years, the plaid became modified into
the kilt which was in fairly common use along side the plaid by 1795.
Tartan has fallen in and out of favour as the popularity of the Scots and
all things Scottish has grown and waned. In 1747, shortly after the
Jacobite rebellion, the Dress Act forbade the wearing of tartan with
offenders receiving a punishment of six months imprisonment or
transportation. Scotsmen were made to swear an oath pledging their
compliance with the law:
"I do swear... as I shall swear to God at the great day of judgement, that
I have not, nor shall l have in my possession, any gun, sword, pistol, or
arm whatsoever, and never use any tartan, plaid, or any piece of highland
garb."
Once the law had been repealed, tartan reappeared slowly, mainly as a
military uniform, and it was not until George IV's visit to Scotland in
1822 that it was in vogue once more. In Queen Victoria's day, fashion added
new checks, decorative sporrans, and skean dhu's, and these were formally
incorporated into our present idea of highland dress.
Over the years, each clan or family has developed its own distinctive
"sett" distinguished by the number of threads of each colour in the
pattern. Nowadays, tartan has virtually lost its function as a hardwearing
cloth for hunting and working purposes, and the more traditional and sombre
colours, based on vegetable dyes, have been replaced by dress tartans with
their brighter overchecks. To many Scotsmen and women tartan is emblematic
of something heroic and indefinable, and they continue to wear it with pride.
2. Quotations

3. Correction to The Tribes, ch.6 Monbaz
It was:
MEDIA
.....Monbaz, the local monarch of Adiabene was related to the rulers of
Parthia, converted to Judaism and assisted the Jews of Jerusalem against
the Romans as did other members of his family. His mother, Heleni, once
helped save Jerusalem from famine. There is a street named in her honor in
the center of the New City of Jerusalem adjacent to the Old.
It should be:
<<Monbaz, the local monarch of Adiabene was related to the rulers of
Parthia. He converted to Judaism. Monbaz once helped save Jerusalem from
famine, saying, "My father amassed treasures in this world, I will do so in
the next". Members of his family assisted the Jews of Jerusalem against
the Romans. His mother, Queen Heleni contributed artifacts of gold to the
Temple. There is a street named in her honor in the center of the New City
of Jerusalem adjacent to the Old.>>
Remark: To my understanding Monbaz was related to the ancestors of the
monarchs of the Anglo-Saxons. He was a Sacae. So too, in Sakastan to the
east of Iran was a Sacae polity ruled by dynasty that claimed descent from
King David.
I know that research has been done in the past on these matters but so far,
apart from brief references, have not been able to locate anything. Any way
it is all very interesting.
4. Religious Fiction?
Brit-Am concentrates on revealing where the Lost Tribes went to and in
spreading this knowledge to the people concerned and to Judah.
In the past we may have made remarks etc reflecting our religious beliefs
but then realized that this is not what is required of us.
Brit-Am is run from Jerusalem mainly by Orthodox Jews. There are many
advantages in this BUT we emphasize that we are trying not to overshadow anybody
and that our mission is to spread knowledge of Brit-Am Identity leaving
other matters to another time and greater people than ourselves.
The Almighty wants this knowledge to go out and those who are aware of
these truths have an obligation to do what they can to help us.
We say this since lately we have encountered a phenomenon from several
directions of people who were prepared to work with us or contributed to
us, etc, and then decided or were prevailed upon by others that since we do
not believe the same as themselves then we should not be assisted. In some
cases we were told this of this new position straight out and in others it
was implied.
To our mind the need for Brit-Am to go ahead is a mutual one. If this
mutuality is not appreciated then evidently there is no need for Brit-Am on the part of those
who lack the appreciation. Mutuality is based on the fact that:
Brit-Am needs to spread, deepen, and reinforce Brit-Am beliefs and truths
and those who they concern need to receive them and assist Brit-Am in its task.
5. History: Manasseh versus Ephraim?
Famous quote from George Washington:
"If all else fails, I will retreat up the valley of Virginia, plant my flag
on the Blue Ridge, rally around the Scotch-Irish of that region, and make
my last stand for liberty amongst a people who will never submit to British
tyranny whilst there is a man left to draw a trigger. "
-- George Washington, at Valley Forge.
>Based on surnames alone, 1/3 of George Washington's army was Irish, with
>many more disguised with anglicized surnames.

7. Psalms 7
Original Hebrew text (The first verse of each Hebrew Psalm for some reason
was deleted in the KJ Translation):
Shigaon Le-David: FROM DAVID IN ANSWER TO A MISCONCEPTION (S.R. Hirsch)
THAT HE SANG TO THE ALMIGHTY CONCERNING THE WORD OF KUSH THE SON OF YAMINI (Benjamin).
I do not know why the KJ neglects to translate the first verse of each of
the Psalms though admittedly these verse are difficult to translate and
other possibilities exist apart from the one we have adopted.
KUSH THE SON OF YAMINI: Traditionally is referring to Saul who came from
the tribe of Benjamin. Why he is called "KUSH" I do not know. Maybe he was
of a dark complexion? He was known for his beauty and aristocratic demeanor
as well as his exceptional size. Perhaps King Saul was tall, dark, and
handsome? Other explanations exist but this one is also possible. Just as
blonds and red0heads existed amongst the Ancient Israelites so did darker individuals.
[Psalms 7:1] O LORD MY GOD, IN THEE DO I PUT MY TRUST: SAVE ME FROM ALL
THEM THAT PERSECUTE ME, AND DELIVER ME:
It may be that david composed this Psalm when he was fleeing from King
Saul. Nevertheless it has now become a formulized prayer that all those in
trouble can make use of. We all have persecutors now and again whether in
the form of a bad neighbor, a creditor, an employer, the police, criminals,
or someone who just does not like us for no clear reason.
[Psalms 7:2] LEST HE TEAR MY SOUL LIKE A LION, RENDING IT IN PIECES, WHILE
THERE IS NONE TO DELIVER.
[Psalms 7:3] O LORD MY GOD, IF I HAVE DONE THIS; IF THERE BE INIQUITY IN MY HANDS;
It sometimes happens that a person is accused of doing something he did not
or of something he did but regrets or without intention and he finds it
difficult to avoid the consequences of guilt.
<< INIQUITY IN MY HANDS>>: Hebrew-English derivatives here.
INIQUITY - Hebrew "avel" or "evil" same as the English "evil".
HANDS - Hebrew "capi"; singular "caph" or "cap" from which we have the
English "cup" or drinking utensil that can be grasped by hand.
[Psalms 7:4] IF I HAVE REWARDED EVIL UNTO HIM THAT WAS AT PEACE WITH ME;
(YEA, I HAVE DELIVERED HIM THAT WITHOUT CAUSE IS MINE ENEMY:)
When David could have justifiably slain Saul (who was pursuing him) he did
not do so but instead let him go (1-Samuel 24:4-8).
[Psalms 7:5] LET THE ENEMY PERSECUTE MY SOUL, AND TAKE IT; YEA, LET HIM
TREAD DOWN M LIFE UPON THE EARTH, AND LAY MINE HONOUR IN THE DUST.
SELAH.
[Psalms 7:6] ARISE, O LORD, IN THINE ANGER, LIFT UP THYSELF BECAUSE OF THE
RAGE OF MINE ENEMIES: AND AWAKE FOR ME TO THE JUDGMENT THAT THOU HAST
COMMANDED.
[Psalms 7:7] SO SHALL THE CONGREGATION OF THE PEOPLE COMPASS THEE ABOUT:
FOR THEIR SAKES THEREFORE RETURN THOU ON HIGH.
[Psalms 7:8] THE LORD SHALL JUDGE THE PEOPLE: JUDGE ME, O LORD, ACCORDING
TO MY RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND ACCORDING TO MINE INTEGRITY THAT IS IN
ME.
<<THE PEOPLE>>: In Hebrew "Amim" in the plural. God will judge the
PEOPLES. The Psalm now swings over from the individual to the national
plane as is the wont of Scripture. The troubles of David are a microcosm
of each one on the individual level and also of Judahn and to an extent
also Israel in Exile.
[Psalms 7:9] OH LET THE WICKEDNESS OF THE WICKED COME TO AN END; BUT
ESTABLISH THE JUST: FOR THE RIGHTEOUS GOD TRIETH THE HEARTS AND
REINS.
[Psalms 7:10] MY DEFENCE IS OF GOD, WHICH SAVETH THE UPRIGHT IN HEART.
God protects righteous people of good intention.
[Psalms 7:11] GOD JUDGETH THE RIGHTEOUS, AND GOD IS ANGRY WITH THE WICKED
EVERY DAY.
[Psalms 7:12] IF HE TURN NOT, [if] HE WILL WHET HIS SWORD; [If] HE HATH
BENT HIS BOW, AND MADE IT READY.
[Psalms 7:13] HE HATH ALSO PREPARED FOR HIM[self] THE INSTRUMENTS OF DEATH;
HE ORDAINETH HIS ARROWS AGAINST THE PERSECUTORS.
The translation of S. R. Hirsch is better here:
<<THEN HE SHALL HAVE PREPARED FOR HIMSELF THE WEAPONS OF DEATH; HIS ARROWS
THAT HE WANTED TO TURN INTO SWIFT PURSUERS [will work against him].
Thiose who devise evil schemes will have them backfire upon
themselves.
[Psalms 7:14] BEHOLD, HE TRAVAILETH WITH INIQUITY, AND HATH CONCEIVED
MISCHIEF, AND BROUGHT FORTH FALSEHOOD.
[Psalms 7:15] HE MADE A PIT, AND DIGGED IT, AND IS FALLEN INTO THE DITCH
WHICH HE MADE.
[Psalms 7:16] HIS MISCHIEF SHALL RETURN UPON HIS OWN HEAD, AND HIS VIOLENT
DEALING SHALL COME DOWN UPON HIS OWN PATE [head].
[Psalms 7:17] I WILL PRAISE THE LORD ACCORDING TO HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS: AND
WILL SING PRAISE TO THE NAME OF THE LORD MOST HIGH.
<<ACCORDING TO HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS>>: The emphasis should be on "HIS" (HIS
RIGHTEOUSNESS). The Almighty knows better than us what needs to be
done. According to S.R. Hirsch this was the misconception on which the
Psalm was composed. David was indignant concerning the injustices done him
and the unfair way he was being treated. He prays to the Almighty and comes
to realize that everything is part of a Divine Plan. Justice will be done
even though we may not always be aware of it. We do not see the whole
picture. Nevertheless we have to do what we can and the Almighty will guide
us.
