2.craving to return to the land

From: "Helms, Scott A"
Subject: DnCMidd's letter about the
house of Israel's craving to return to the
land
I must agree wholeheartedly. When I
visited in 1995, I felt as if I were
finally home. I have lived in the U.S.A.
all my life. Nevertheless, when I
walked in Jerusalem and prayed at the
Kotel, America was no longer
beautiful to me. I felt such a great,
overpowering sense of belonging that
I had never felt anywhere in the U.S.
When it became time to leave, I felt
as if I were leaving home, and I felt
numb - as if from a loss too great to
dare to feel. My heart longs and I
weep for the day when I may return to
stay. If only Israeli immigration laws
were not so strict. I would gladly
give my last drop of blood to win but
an inch of ground, though it were
lost the next moment. What I prayed
for at the Kotel was the return of all
Israel.
3.Aram Paquin: Re: Importance of "Academic" Research"
Yair,
if it weren't for "Academic Research",
I would most likely have remained an
atheist. It was my curiosity about
science that eventually led to my
conclusion that, absent a Creator or
"Prime Mover", the universe and
everything in it simply can not be
explained. Having once taken that first
reluctant, intellectual step of accepting/admitting
His existence, I was
enabled to continue what has become
a lifelong journey of seeking Him out &
finding Him not only in Scripture but
also in the laughing eyes of my 2 1/2
year old granddaughter and in the majestic
glory of a sunrise.
First, I came to know of Him. Later,
I came to know Him. Now, I love Him &
wish only to serve Him.
True, God did reveal himself to us
through Scripture. But, isn't the moving
of His hand also evident in the details
of His creation? Those tempted to
take Sola Scriptura to the extreme
of rejecting the importance of searching
for Him in the arena of secular study
might do well to realize that His
prophecies come to pass as events and
phenomena that take place in the
physical world we live in today.
Yours is just as much a sacred responsibility
as that of any prophet.
May He continue to guide you &
strengthen you as you do His will.

4. Chariots of the Sun
Concerning King Josiah of Judah it
says:
[2-Kings 23:11] AND HE TOOK AWAY THE
HORSES THAT THE KINGS OF JUDAH HAD
GIVEN TO THESUN, AT THE ENTERING IN
OF THE HOUSE OF THE LORD, BY THE
CHAMBER OF NATHANMELECH THE CHAMBERLAIN,
WHICH WAS IN THE SUBURBS, AND
BURNED THE CHARIOTS OF THE SUN WITH
FIRE.
The chariots of the sun were apparently
calendar disks representing the sun
drawn by chariots. Metallic statuettes
representing chariots of the sun
have been found in Europe. See the
following notes: Ignore the dates
given. It is unlikely that any of them
date from before 500 BCE.
Trundholm in Denmark(best known example)

The example was found in Denmark but
it is now claimed that metallurgical
examinations show it was produced further
to the south.
Also a golden sun-disc from Moordorf
in Lower Saxony,
which may once have belonged to a wagon
as well.

and a very similar bronze wagon from
Strettweg, Austria, which also
has the worship of the sun in its centre.

Bronze Age observatory to be rebuilt
in Germany
September 10, 2002, 20:15
Archaeologists hope to rebuild as a
tourist attraction a Bronze Age
observatory where ancient priests in
Germany divined the right days
to sow and harvest crops 3,600 years
ago.
They said the site on a hill in the
middle of a forest is the
world's oldest surviving astronomical
observatory. The location has
been kept secret so artefacts robbers
will not disturb it, but the
media are to be granted a first glimpse
September 25.
Treasure hunters stumbled on the site
four years ago and dug up the
world's oldest astronomical map, a
32-centimetre bronze disc, but
the first scientific excavation of
the site only began last month.
Harald Meller, head of the Halle Prehistoric
Museum, said the dig
had shown the structure was probably
built of logs, not stone.
Dating of artefacts suggested the ancients
used it for more than
1,000 years. "The structure and the
map told them the date, which
they had to know to sow and harvest
crops," said Meller. "Here they
could track the sun's variation from
the winter to the summer
solstice."
The circular site, 200 metres across,
has features that line up with
rising points of the sun. The circle,
somewhere near Nebra, 180
kilometres southwest of Berlin, had
a wall and ditch around it. The
site's significance for world history
is such that a replica
observatory is being planned to show
visitors how it worked.
Since August 20, archaeologists have
found more than 100 artefacts
including half a ring with a spiral
decoration. It has been dated to
2,700 years ago. "It would have been
worn on the neck," said Meller.
The bronze-and-gold map of the heavens
was seized by Swiss police in
February in a sting operation. Two
German treasure hunters face
charges of failing to declare treasure
trove. The stash included two
swords, two axes, a chisel and a set
of arm-rings.
The identity of the Bronze Age people
of Europe has been lost in the
mists of time, with only their hut
sites, graves and treasures left.
It is impossible to guess the language
they spoke. - Sapa/DPA
