1. Query from Nelson Thall re Overlap of Race and Tribe?
Dear Yair,
What can you say about the overlap between race and tribal identities.
For instance, Is Ephraim all white skinned?
What about Judah? My understanding is that there are both white Jews and Black skinned Jews. Is this correct. Are the blood descendants of Judah both black and white skinned?
Haiie Sellasie is black and claims to be a descendant of Judah?

Haille Selassie (1872-1975) was first regent (1916-1930) then Emperor (1930-1974) of Ethiopia until being deposed by Communist rebels.
Different photos give differing impressions. On the whole he had very curly hair, Semitic-Hamitic features, and skin that was basically pale but tanned quickly and deeply when exposed to the sun. Both he and his wife actually looked quite white and if he had have cut his hair close and lived in a cold climate for a few years he could have walked the streets and been considered a visitor from Southern Europe. In point of fact some photos indicate that he did not necessarily look much more "African" than Abraham Lincoln!
He did however come from Africa the region of black men and led the Ethiopian nation who are assumed to be black. We therefore assume he was black. This illustrates a cultural pre-conditioning for our concepts of race that may not always be consistent with reality.
Anyway this is all besides the point.
In answer to your question, concerning color and Israelites: We cannot say!
We are not qualified to decide who belongs and who does not.
Brit-Am sees itself as responsible for showing in what areas descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes are now concentrated.
Some sources (e.g. Zohar, "Vayechi") suggest that the Ten Tribes when they return will have remained "pure" i.e. unmixed racially.
Other sources say the opposite and that all those who come will be accepted.
In our private opinion:
Each Tribal group in effect will be entitled to make its own decisions.
The Israelite nation was permitted, or even encouraged to take in foreigners and give them full rights. We were also allowed in warfare to capture women and marry them (Deuteronomy 21:10-14).
No limitations were placed on which nations we could war against or take captives from.
The question of color is to a large degree irrelevant.
Despite this I still dislike Obama.
Even if Baruk Hussein was a pure white man I still would not like him!
To my mind, he is a destructive element.

...finally I have discovered Brit-Am website which have been a great teaching and blessing to me. I can truly say that the prophecy in Zachariah 8:23 was also fulfilled in my life. "Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days [it shall come to pass], that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard [that] God [is] with you. ". Another scripture is Jeremiah 16:19 "O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and [things] wherein [there is] no profit. "

This message is not intended as a criticism of your reply, "Write a letter to your President!" In fact, your reply was very appropriate.
Perhaps the author of the message has stumbled upon information that Mitzraim were Africans with black skin and connected this with Israelite slaves in Mitzraim. Although I have disagreed with you in the past about this, I have, however, seen images of Mitzraim with definitely African facial features. (One exception is Queen Nefertiti who was certainly not African and I believe she was Israelite, Neferiti has been described as the most beautiful woman of all time, Why, then, would she not be Israelite? - just my opinion)
The Israelite slaves would have most definitely been identified by ancient Greek and Roman historians as Mitzraim, even though they were slaves from a foreign country. Even today, black people in North America, whose ancestors were foreigners from Africa are not necessarily viewed as immigrants, just by the color of their skin. Black men during the 1930s were sometimes called "Porter" because porters and waiters on passenger trains were almost always black, This tradition carried well into the 1960s and they were never considered as foreigners. Probably by 1862, most slaves here had indeed been born in the US. Even in 19th century England, African servants would not have been viewed as foreigners if they were born in the British Empire.
