Psalms 108
A PSALM OR SONG OF DAVID
[Psalms 108:1] O GOD, MY HEART IS FIXED; I WILL SING AND GIVE PRAISE, EVEN WITH MY GLORY.
[Psalms 108:2] AWAKE, PSALTERY AND HARP: I MYSELF WILL AWAKE EARLY.
WILL AWAKE EARLY. Hebrew "a-ira Shachar" literally "I will awake the morning". This could be understood to say (as pointed out in "Daat Mikra") that David was accustomed to awaken early and to give praise to the Almighty on his musical instruments before sunrise.
[Psalms 108:3] I WILL PRAISE THEE, O LORD, AMONG THE PEOPLE: AND I WILL SING PRAISES UNTO THEE AMONG THE NATIONS.
AMONG THE PEOPLE. The Hebrew is more correctly translated as saying "among the peoples". David was a king and a believer in the Almighty. He was also attuned to the need to spread knowledge of the Almighty amongst non-Israelite nations.
In this he apparently succeeded for we find in the time of Solomon that Hiram King of Tyre on the Phoenician coast recalls his friendship with David and gives praise to the Almighty God of Israel.
AND HIRAM KING OF TYRE SENT HIS SERVANTS UNTO SOLOMON; FOR HE HAD HEARD THAT THEY HAD ANOINTED HIM KING IN THE ROOM OF HIS FATHER: FOR HIRAM WAS EVER A LOVER OF DAVID [1-Kings 5:1].
AND IT CAME TO PASS, WHEN HIRAM HEARD THE WORDS OF SOLOMON, THAT HE REJOICED GREATLY, AND SAID, BLESSED BE THE LORD THIS DAY, WHICH HATH GIVEN UNTO DAVID A WISE SON OVER THIS GREAT PEOPLE [1-Kings 5:7].
[Psalms 108:4] FOR THY MERCY IS GREAT ABOVE THE HEAVENS: AND THY TRUTH REACHETH UNTO THE CLOUDS.
God will have mercy upon us and upon the earth and HE will heal creation of ecological ravages we may have inflicted upon it.
[Psalms 108:5] BE THOU EXALTED, O GOD, ABOVE THE HEAVENS: AND THY GLORY ABOVE ALL THE EARTH;
This is a request to the Almighty to show HIS power and glory to all Creation.
[Psalms 108:6] THAT THY BELOVED MAY BE DELIVERED: SAVE WITH THY RIGHT HAND, AND ANSWER ME.
Israel is the BELOVED of the Almighty. If the gentiles truly learn to fear God they will not persecute and oppress Judah and will cease to vex Israel.
[Psalms 108:7] GOD HATH SPOKEN IN HIS HOLINESS; I WILL REJOICE, I WILL DIVIDE SHECHEM, AND METE OUT THE VALLEY OF SUCCOTH.
SHECHEM is in the territory of Manasseh on the "West Bank". "THE VALLEY OF SUCCOTH" is east of the Jordan River. These regions are destined to be re-settled by Israelites. If we fear the Almighty and endeavor to do HIS will we too may contribute to the unfolding of these events.
[Psalms 108:8] GILEAD IS MINE; MANASSEH IS MINE; EPHRAIM ALSO IS THE STRENGTH OF MINE HEAD; JUDAH IS MY LAWGIVER;
The Ten Tribes belong to the Almighty i.e. "GILEAD IS MINE; MANASSEH IS MINE; EPHRAIM ALSO".
So do the Jews, JUDAH IS MY LAWGIVER.
In the Latter Days the expression of Israelite Destiny concerning the Ten Tribes will be revealed more through North America, i.e. GILEAD and MANASSEH. Ephraim will also be important and future events will show that Ephraim will yet have a leadership role to fulfill.
Biblical understanding and revelation of the Law will come through Judah.
[Psalms 108:9] MOAB IS MY WASHPOT; OVER EDOM WILL I CAST OUT MY SHOE; OVER PHILISTIA WILL I TRIUMPH.
Who Moab is today is somewhat complicated. There are those who say that part of the population of present day "Jordan" are descended from "Moabites". Others identify Moab with Central Europeans and Poles.
PHILISTIA represents the Palestinian "Arabs" though Abarbanel identified the Genoese and Venetians as descended from the Philistines. Archaeology and linguistics indicate a possible Philistine presence along the Adriatic coast i.e. Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, etc.
[Psalms 108:10] WHO WILL BRING ME INTO THE STRONG CITY? WHO WILL LEAD ME INTO EDOM?
Edom is usually identified with elements in Continental Europe.
[Psalms 108:11] WILT NOT THOU, O GOD, WHO HAST CAST US OFF? AND WILT NOT THOU, O GOD, GO FORTH WITH OUR HOSTS?
[Psalms 108:12] GIVE US HELP FROM TROUBLE: FOR VAIN IS THE HELP OF MAN.
[Psalms 108:13] THROUGH GOD WE SHALL DO VALIANTLY: FOR HE IT IS THAT SHALL TREAD DOWN OUR ENEMIES.
God will destroy they who rise against us.
