Psalms 117 [Psalms 117:1] O PRAISE THE LORD, ALL YE NATIONS: PRAISE HIM, ALL YE PEOPLE. S. R. Hirsch opines that one day the People of Israel will call upon all nations of the earth to praise the Almighty. NATIONS: In Hebrew "goyim" meaning says S.R. Hirsch people who are united for political and utilitarian purposes. PEOPLE. In Hebrew "amim" in the plural, i.e. PEOPLES. S.R. Hirsch points out that "amim" is from the root "AM" meaning "mother" i.e. people in the sense that they have a common ancestry. [Psalms 117:2] FOR HIS MERCIFUL KINDNESS IS GREAT TOWARD US: AND THE TRUTH OF THE LORD ENDURETH FOR EVER. PRAISE YE THE LORD. GREAT TOWARD. Hebrew "gavar olaynu" which may also be understood to say "has overcome us". The Sages said that in the future the enemies of the People of God will give praise because they will know better than anyone else what they planned and tried to do to the Jews and Israelites and how due to the mercies of God towards HIS people it did not succeed. An example for this phenomenon that has been given is the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The Russians had equipped the Arabs with sophisticated weaponry that was liable to have caused numerous casualties amongst the Israelis. Very often this weaponry was rendered ineffective not only because of Arab inepptitude (that we sometimes prefer to exagerrate) but also due to uinforeseen and even inexplicable factors. In this case it was our enemies who realized more than we did the measure of the miracles that had been performed for us. AND THE TRUTH OF THE LORD ENDURETH FOR EVER. The Promises made by the Almighty to HIS People have not all been fulfilled and will not be so until towards the Latter Days. At that time the Truth of the word of the Almighty will be upheld by the visible reality.
