Psalm 138
A PSALM OF DAVID
[Psalms 138:1] I WILL PRAISE THEE WITH MY WHOLE HEART: BEFORE THE GODS WILL I SING PRAISE  UNTO THEE.
THE GODS. Hebrew "Elohim". This can mean "God" Himself when applied in the singular or according to the context. [This is a plural noun but in Hebrew  a plural can sometimes apply to a singular.]  A class of angels is also known as "Elohim". So too, the word may be applied to "mighty men" and to "judges".    Amos Chacham (Daat Mikra) opines that here it means the gods whom the non-Israelite Kings of the earth worship.   In other words despite whatever other powers and influences they claim exist we will worship and obey the God of Israel.

[Psalms 138:2] I WILL WORSHIP TOWARD THY HOLY TEMPLE, AND PRAISE THY NAME FOR THY  LOVINGKINDNESS AND FOR THY TRUTH: FOR THOU HAST MAGNIFIED THY WORD ABOVE ALL THY NAME.
Even though the Temple is in ruins when we pray we should direct our intentions and physical orientation in the direction of the Temple Mount.

[Psalms 138:3] IN THE DAY WHEN I CRIED THOU ANSWEREDST ME, AND STRENGTHENEDST ME WITH  STRENGTH IN MY SOUL.
STRENGTHENEDST. Hebrew "Tarhivani" from the root "RaHaV" connoting pride and confidence. I was alone and I prayed to you. You answered me and gave me belief in my self. Often the first step to recovery from a disaster or for strength to overcome a crisis is merely the psychological attitude of surety that it can be done. This is what prayer does for us. God helps us when we call unto HIM. Sometimes we may find it difficult to pray properly but the Almighty still helps us.

[Psalms 138:4] ALL THE KINGS OF THE EARTH SHALL PRAISE THEE, O LORD, WHEN THEY HEAR THE WORDS OF THY MOUTH.
When they come to understand the Divine Plan behind all things they will acknowledge the truth of the God of Israel.

[Psalms 138:5] YEA, THEY SHALL SING IN THE WAYS OF THE LORD: FOR GREAT IS THE GLORY OF THE  LORD.

[Psalms 138:6] THOUGH THE LORD BE HIGH, YET HATH HE RESPECT UNTO THE LOWLY: BUT THE  PROUD HE KNOWETH AFAR OFF.

[Psalms 138:7] THOUGH I WALK IN THE MIDST OF TROUBLE, THOU WILT REVIVE ME: THOU SHALT  STRETCH FORTH THINE HAND AGAINST THE WRATH OF MINE ENEMIES, AND THY RIGHT HAND SHALL  SAVE ME.

[Psalms 138:8] THE LORD WILL PERFECT THAT WHICH CONCERNETH ME: THY MERCY, O LORD,  ENDURETH FOR EVER: FORSAKE NOT THE WORKS OF THINE OWN HANDS.
