Psalms 96
[Psalms 96:1] O SING UNTO THE LORD A NEW SONG: SING UNTO THE LORD, ALL THE EARTH.
The Mairi says this Psalm is a song concerning the future Redemption. The Redeeming (in Hebrew "Geulah") of Israel should be a cause for joy for all the earth. All of mankind and creation itself will benefit.  In our days that rejoicing of all creation along with the Redemption of Israel has an extra significance since we are all aware of the ecological horrors  about us and which may worsen before the Redeemer appears.
Nowadays it is fashionable amongst "nationalists" and "right-wingers" to belittle the claims of the ecologically-conscious.
There are certain fields such as ecology and even respect for women and children which God-fearing patriots should by rights be in the forefront  on their behalf.  It is unfortunate that such concerns seem to have been hijacked by left-wingers and free-thinkers.
The claims of the ecologists may be often exaggerated, misplaced, and cloak other agendas. Nevertheless, real problems do exist, are very serious, and should be dealt with.

[Psalms 96:2] SING UNTO THE LORD, BLESS HIS NAME; SHEW FORTH HIS SALVATION FROM DAY TO DAY.
Every day we should thank the Almighty for helping us.

[Psalms 96:3] DECLARE HIS GLORY AMONG THE HEATHEN, HIS WONDERS AMONG ALL PEOPLE.
Bible-conscious believers and descendants of Israelites should do what they can to spread knowledge of the Almighty and believe in HIM. This does not have to take a form of advocating the particular belief system of the individual.
Scientists amongst the Israelite Nations also have a task of declaring the greatness of the Almighty by constantly revealing the intricacy and wonders of  Creation.

[Psalms 96:4] FOR THE LORD IS GREAT, AND GREATLY TO BE PRAISED: HE IS TO BE FEARED ABOVE  ALL GODS.
GODS: Hebrew "elohim". Sometimes "elohim" means "God Almighty" in the singular;  sometimes the woird means "gods" as here; at other times it connotes "judges" or mighty men".
God Almighty is to be feared before all other forces, influences, and confederations of men. Divine Providence may be seen in nature and makes itself felt through nature.

[Psalms 96:5] FOR ALL THE GODS OF THE NATIONS ARE IDOLS: BUT THE LORD MADE THE HEAVENS.
God of the nations represent the idyll of the nation. They are empty, little more than a bluff.
IDOLS: Hebrew "
elilim".

[Psalms 96:6] HONOUR AND MAJESTY ARE BEFORE HIM: STRENGTH AND BEAUTY ARE IN HIS SANCTUARY.
These qualities are desirable. We can appreciate them. Awareness of them enhances our existence.

[Psalms 96:7] GIVE UNTO THE LORD, O YE KINDREDS OF THE PEOPLE, GIVE UNTO THE LORD  GLORY AND STRENGTH.
KINDREDS OF THE PEOPLE: Hebrew "mishpachot amim" or literally "families of peoples".

[Psalms 96:8] GIVE UNTO THE LORD THE GLORY DUE UNTO HIS NAME: BRING AN OFFERING,  AND  COME INTO HIS COURTS.

[Psalms 96:9] O WORSHIP THE LORD IN THE BEAUTY OF HOLINESS: FEAR BEFORE HIM, ALL THE EARTH.

[Psalms 96:10] SAY AMONG THE HEATHEN THAT THE LORD REIGNETH: THE WORLD ALSO SHALL BE  ESTABLISHED THAT IT SHALL NOT BE MOVED: HE SHALL JUDGE THE PEOPLE RIGHTEOUSLY.

[Psalms 96:11] LET THE HEAVENS REJOICE, AND LET THE EARTH BE GLAD; LET THE SEA ROAR, AND   THE FULNESS THEREOF.

[Psalms 96:12] LET THE FIELD BE JOYFUL, AND ALL THAT IS THEREIN: THEN SHALL ALL THE TREES OF THE  WOOD REJOICE
Trees are important. They improve the air and purify it as well as helping to clean water resources and increasing precipitation. Trees also help lower the ground temperature.

[Psalms 96:13] BEFORE THE LORD: FOR HE COMETH, FOR HE COMETH TO JUDGE THE EARTH: HE   SHALL JUDGE THE WORLD WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND THE PEOPLE WITH HIS TRUTH.
<<THE PEOPLE: Hebrew "amim" i.e.  peoples.
<<HIS TRUTH: Hebrew "
emunatoy" connoting "faithfulness, loyalty"   Psalms Index
