Forgiveness RE French saying 'to understand is to forgive'. Shalom Yair Today in your commentary on Proverbs 10 verses 9 - 15 you mentioned the French saying 'to understand is to forgive'. Brit-Am links Reuben to the French. I have been reading Genesis through Genesis and I am up to the point where the sons of Jacob have gone down to Egypt to buy grain because of the famine. Joseph reveals his identity and the brothers are afraid. Joseph explains the big picture to them, that all is good. G-ds plan was to get him in Egypt to find favour with Pharaoh and therefore secure sustenance for all Israel/Jacobs people in their hour of need. Joseph understood therefore he was able to forgive. Selected European Countries. http://britam.org/stats/StatsAntiS.html Extracts: The Netherlands was the least anti-Semitic followed by Britain, then France. Paradoxically both the British and the Dutch have a relatively strong negative image of the State of Israel. [Figures on this issue were not given for France.] Italy was somewhat worse overall than France but not overwhelmingly so. The Report: Almost half of Polish and 69 percent of Hungarian respondents believe that Jews in their countries have too much influence, whereas at the other end of the scale only 14 percent in Great Britain and 6 percent in the Netherlands are of this opinion. The same is found for statements 8 and 9, which attribute avarice and egotism to Jews. Here again we find the strongest agreement in Poland and Hungary, although more than half of Portuguese respondents also agree with these statements, and the least agreement in the Netherlands and Great Britain where about one fifth judge Jews to be profitseeking and self-interested. In all surveyed countries, however, a majority agrees with the statement that Jews are an enrichment for their culture. 3. Query About Hosea Book. David Jackson: Hello, When will your new book on Hosea be available? Dave Brit-Am Reply: We are close to finishing it. It is quite good. The information is important. After that we have to worry about getting paying for it to be printed amongst other matters. |
