Psalm 129
Psalm 129  A SONG OF DEGREES
[Psalms 129:1] MANY A TIME HAVE THEY AFFLICTED ME FROM MY YOUTH, MAY ISRAEL NOW SAY:
This present Psalm applies to both Israelites from the Ten Tribes and to the Jews from Judah.
Judah and Israel  have had many many enemies who wanted to see their complete obliteration.
The term "Israel" in the Bible has three possible applications:
a. All the Twelve Tribes of Israel or part of them.
b. The Ten Tribes from the Northern Kingdom who were exiled and lost consciousness of their identity. They are know as the Lost Ten Tribes".
c. The Jews of  the Kingdom of Judah or their descendants in Exile.
Judah in the Bible is sometimes also referred to as "Israel". People who say otherwise are mistaken. In the Books of Ezekiel and Ezra the term "Israel" sometimes refers only to Judah.
e.g.   Ezra 2:2, Ezra 2:59
If you want more examples download the Books of Ezekiel, Ezra, and Nehemiah. Save these books in a word program, open "Find", enter "Israel" and you will come up with numerous examples where the term "Israel" applies to Jews from Judah.

Israelites from the Lost Ten Tribes are often hated by non-Israelite Peoples. The USA is hated for no good reason. The USA has done more good on the whole than any other nation on earth yet many of the heathen non-Israelite peoples hate it.
Britain is also hated.
So too is the West in general, especially Israelite nations such as France, Holland, etc.
Even though this Psalm may be applied to both the Jews (Judah) and the Ten Tribes (Israel, Joseph, Ephraim) we have decided to concentrate on its application to Judah in this present Commentary since its applicability to the case of Judah and the State of Israel is the most obvious.

The Jews of Judah are hated all over the world.
A double standard is applied towards the Jews.
The State of Israel cannot even defend its own citizens from attack without all kinds of lies being spoken about it.
The Hamas Arab Organization in Gaza has in its founding constitution statements taken from Nazi type propaganda conspiracy theories against the Jews and wants to exterminate the Jews in the Land of Israel. Look it up in the Wikipedia article on Hamas. They openly declare their intentions. They take money and supplies given them to feed their population and use them to buy weapons to kill Jews with.
Even so President Obama of the USA has just promised million of dollars in aid to Hamas.  Hamas almost daily fires rockets at Israel but if Israel reacts it is condemned as the aggressor.
The Jews are denied the most basic rights of all human beings. They are begrudged the very air they breathe.
Even good Christian friends of Israel have anti-Jewish prejudices. They make remarks about Israelis and Jews at times that are not of place and unfair. Look at how many of them believe in Conspiracy Theories that are basically lies and at bottom anti-Jewish. Even some right-wing Jews are infected with anti-Jewish sentiment to say nothing of the left-wingers who systematically sell the Jewish people down the drain at every chance they get. Look at the Oslo Accords that put guns in the hands of Arab assassins when it was obvious that these weapons were to be used to kill Jews with.
A friend of mine, Chaim Hayman, was present (March 6, 2007) in the building of the Yeshiva, "Mercaz HaRav", in the attack by an Arab maniac who shot young eight Jewish boys who were learning. The Arab was using a Kalashnikov that reached him because of the Oslo Accords.

[Psalms 129:2] MANY A TIME HAVE THEY AFFLICTED ME FROM MY YOUTH: YET THEY HAVE NOT PREVAILED AGAINST ME.

[Psalms 129:3] THE PLOWERS PLOWED UPON MY BACK: THEY MADE LONG THEIR FURROWS.
They laid me down and ploughed over me. They treated me worse than an animal.

[Psalms 129:4] THE LORD IS RIGHTEOUS: HE HATH CUT ASUNDER THE CORDS OF THE WICKED.
God has freed us from the yoke of oppression.

[Psalms 129:5] LET THEM ALL BE CONFOUNDED AND TURNED BACK THAT HATE ZION.
Everyone who hates Jews and hates Zionism will be shamed and shown to be the blaggards that they are.

[Psalms 129:6] LET THEM BE AS THE GRASS UPON THE HOUSETOPS, WHICH WITHERETH AFORE IT  GROWETH UP:
Grass on the rooftops grows in the dust and mud that gathers on the roofs. This is very shallow and therefore the grass does not put down any substantial roots. It is very easily removed. In fact it is usually enough to sweep it away with a broom or stick. Everyone who is against the Jews and against Zionism will suffer the same fate.

[Psalms 129:7] WHEREWITH THE MOWER FILLETH NOT HIS HAND; NOR HE THAT BINDETH SHEAVES HIS BOSOM.
The grass upon the housetops has no substance. It is easily taken up and thrown away. So too will be the case of all the enemies of Israel. They will be discarded.

[Psalms 129:8] NEITHER DO THEY WHICH GO BY SAY, THE BLESSING OF THE LORD BE UPON YOU: WE BLESS YOU IN THE NAME OF THE LORD.
They who oppress Israel and who work against the Jews will not be blessed. They shall not even receive the basic good will that others extend to others who work for a living.

In short whosoever blesses Israel and Judah will be blessed.
He who does not seek the good of Zion and Jerusalem will not receive goods  themselves.
God wants the good of Israel, the good of the Jews, and the good of the Jewish settlement in Jerusalem and in the Land of Israel.
Anyone who goes against these matters goes against the God of Israel and will be punished accordingly.
