Psalms 130
A SONG OF DEGREES
[Psalms 130:1] OUT OF THE DEPTHS HAVE I CRIED UNTO THEE, O LORD.           
          
 
[Psalms 130:2] LORD, HEAR MY VOICE: LET THINE EARS BE ATTENTIVE TO THE VOICE OF MY  SUPPLICATIONS.                     
 
[Psalms 130:3] IF THOU, LORD, SHOULDEST MARK INIQUITIES, O LORD, WHO SHALL STAND?
If God counts all our sins and offences and holds them against us we have no chance of getting away with anything. We are all culpable.                      
 
[Psalms 130:4] BUT THERE IS FORGIVENESS WITH THEE, THAT THOU MAYEST BE FEARED. 
God can punish and does so. HE can also forgive and does forgive. We should fear God as well as love HIM. All of us have done things we regret. We have also certainly done things that we should regret but have probably forgotten or do not realize how bad we have been. Sometimes through thougtlessness we offend others or we do things that are wrong and do not pay attention to them.  We have also done things that we may be sorry about but not to a great degree.  In many cases the Almighty does not punish us even though we deserve it. We should consider ourselves as on a kind of probation.  If we do something wrong we are liable to be punished not only for the actual offence itself but also for other things of a similar nature that up unto now we were being let get away with.
The bottom line is that God can forgive us and will do so if we endeavor to act properly and serve HIM as we should.                 
THOU MAYEST BE FEARED.  In Hebrew "Tivorai". It is translated correctly.  Nevertheless the word could ALSO be understood to mean "MAKE YOURSELF SEEN".  In Biblical Hebrew words can have two different meanings at one and the same time.  The Almighty foprgives us and through consciousness of this we may become aware of HIM.
 
[Psalms 130:5] I WAIT FOR THE LORD, MY SOUL DOTH WAIT, AND IN HIS WORD DO I HOPE.  
MY SOUL. Hebrew "nafshi" from the word "nefesh".  In the Hebrew Language there are different words for the soul corresponding to different levels of soul-consciousness.  The "Nefesh" is the lowest level. It overlaps with our mind in its primary state, our life-force, and the basic instincts that are similar to those found in other living creatures.  The Psalmist is saying that his  need for self-preservation in the physical and mental senses tells him to hold out.  
WAIT. In Hebrew "Kiviti" from the root "Kaveh" meaning "hope for".
We are hoping for God to come to us and show us the way, to deliver us from ourselves.
IN HIS WORD. We hope and wait for direction from God Almighty through what HE has said unto us in the Bible.
 
[Psalms 130:6] MY SOUL WAITETH FOR THE LORD MORE THAN THEY THAT WATCH FOR THE MORNING: I  SAY, MORE THAN THEY THAT WATCH FOR THE MORNING.                     
MY SOUL WAITETH. In light of what we have explained concerning the previous verse this expression may also be rendered,
MY MENTAL-EMOTIONAL LIFE-SUSTAINING FACULTIES [Nefesh] are keyed up and HOPING.
Like someone outside such as a security guard or shepherd overnight in the field who waits for the morning light to come shining through we wait for God Almighty to enlighten our spirit and give us the insight we need to receive from HIM.
 
[Psalms 130:7] LET ISRAEL HOPE IN THE LORD: FOR WITH THE LORD THERE IS MERCY, AND  WITH HIM IS PLENTEOUS REDEMPTION.
Up unto now this Psalm has been a private one, of the individual waiting and hoping for God to answer him or her. It now moves over into the national sphere. All of the Psalms have this quality of being applicable on both the individual and community level.  We should identify with our people. We should consider ourselves one with the Israelite Nation meaning both Judah and Israel.  We should consider our own good to be bound up with that of Israel and vice-versa. This was perhaps easier for David since he was the King and responsible for all the people. We too however should also take some responsibility and want for the good of the Israelite Nation.                       
 
[Psalms 130:8] AND HE SHALL REDEEM ISRAEL FROM ALL HIS INIQUITIES.
The Almighty will forgive us all of our sins. He will save us. He will redeem the Peoples of Israel and show us the way in which we should go.
