Psalm 132
A SONG OF DEGREES

[Psalms 132:1] LORD, REMEMBER DAVID, AND ALL HIS AFFLICTIONS:
David asks the ALMIGHTY to remember all that he endured.

[Psalms 132:2] HOW HE SWARE UNTO THE LORD, AND VOWED UNTO THE MIGHTY GOD OF  JACOB;
THE MIGHTY GOD OF  JACOB in Hebrew "Abir Yaacov" possibly meaning "Bull of Jacob". See
verse 132:5 below.

[Psalms 132:3] SURELY I WILL NOT COME INTO THE TABERNACLE OF MY HOUSE, NOR GO UP INTO MY  BED;

[Psalms 132:4] I WILL NOT GIVE SLEEP TO MINE EYES, OR SLUMBER TO MINE EYELIDS,

[Psalms 132:5] UNTIL I FIND OUT A PLACE FOR THE LORD, AN HABITATION FOR THE MIGHTY GOD OF  JACOB.
David promised God that he would build him a Temple. The Almighty replied through Nathan the Prophet that not he but rather his son would merit to build the Temple.
Netherelss it was counted to David as if he had done that which he wished to do so. His good honest intention was considered as merit.
THE MIGHTY GOD OF  JACOB. In Hebrew "Abir Yaacov".
ABIR can mean "powerful one" or anything that has power. It is also claimed that Abir means "bull"
And that Abir Yaacov could be translated as "Bull of Jacob".
Cf.
THE BULLOCKS [Hebrew: "Abirim" plural of "abir"]WITH THE BULLS (Isaiah 34:7).
STRONG BULLS OF BASHAN [Psalms 22:12] in Hebrew: "Abiri Bashan" i.e. The Abirs (strong bulls) of Bashan.
"Abir" in Modern Hebrew means "knight".
It can also mean "the chief" cf. 1-Samuel 121:8 where Doeg is called "THE CHIEFEST".

A related word "AVER" (spelt in Hebrew with the same word-root-letters as "Abir") means wings.

We have here the possibility that Abir Yaacov means the Bull of Jacob and that it was another name for God. We need not take this at face value. The whole subject requires additional examination.  Nevertheless if true it helps explain both the Golden Calf in the Wilderness and the two golden calves the Jeroboam King of Israel set up, one in Bethel and the other in Dan (1-Kings 12:28-29). Commentators have suggested in both cases that the initial intention was not necessarily outright idolatry but rather an alternate means of serving the Almighty that was not authorized by the Prophecy and that degenerated quickly.

Cf. The blessing of Jacob to Joseph:
[Genesis 49:24] BUT HIS BOW ABODE IN STRENGTH, AND THE ARMS OF HIS HANDS WERE MADE STRONG BY THE HANDS OF THE MIGHTY GOD OF JACOB; (FROM THENCE IS THE SHEPHERD, THE STONE OF ISRAEL:)
THE MIGHTY GOD OF  JACOB. In Hebrew "Abir Yaacov".

[Psalms 132:6] LO, WE HEARD OF IT AT EPHRATAH: WE FOUND IT IN THE FIELDS OF THE WOOD.
EPHRATAH is another name for the region of Bethlehem. David was from this region and according to Daat Mikra (Amos Chochom) men from that region and from Kiryat Yaarim helped David bring the Ark of the Coventant up to Jerusalem.
THE FIELDS OF THE WOOD in Hebrew "Sedeh Yaar". Amos Chocham says this is another name for "Kiryat Yaarim" whose name in Hebrew can connote "Township of the Forests" [or  in our opinion, "Townships of the Forest"]. The Ark of the Covenant had been stationed in "Kiryat Yaarim" until David had it brought up to Mount Zion.

[Psalms 132:7] WE WILL GO INTO HIS TABERNACLES: WE WILL WORSHIP AT HIS FOOTSTOOL.
We want to go to the Place of God and worship HIM.

[Psalms 132:8] ARISE, O LORD, INTO THY REST; THOU, AND THE ARK OF THY STRENGTH.
This Psalm celebrates the elevation of the Ark.

[Psalms 132:9] LET THY PRIESTS BE CLOTHED WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS; AND LET THY SAINTS SHOUT FOR  JOY.

[Psalms 132:10] FOR THY SERVANT DAVID'S SAKE TURN NOT AWAY THE FACE OF THINE ANOINTED.

[Psalms 132:11] THE LORD HATH SWORN IN TRUTH UNTO DAVID; HE WILL NOT TURN FROM IT; OF  THE FRUIT OF THY BODY WILL I SET UPON THY THRONE.

[Psalms 132:12] IF THY CHILDREN WILL KEEP MY COVENANT AND MY TESTIMONY THAT I SHALL TEACH THEM, THEIR CHILDREN SHALL ALSO SIT UPON THY THRONE FOR EVERMORE.
There will be always be a descendants of David ruling over at least part of Israel.  This is our opinion. The actual verses dealing with this subject may be interpreted in several ways.
They could be understood as saying that a candidate from the seed of David will always be available so that if Israel merits it and if the candidate is worthy he can be made king. If either the childtren of the candidtate or his subjects go off the right path then their kingship will be removed.
We however understand the prophecies to imply that somone descended from David will always rule over at least part of Israel. If they merit it then this rulership in the future may be extended over all Israel. The final KING who at all events will rule over all the twelve Tribes in the End Times will be the Messsiah who will be descended from David and is referred to by the Almighty as David.
AND MY SERVANT DAVID SHALL BE THEIR PRINCE FOR EVER [Ezekiel 37:25].

[Psalms 132:13] FOR THE LORD HATH CHOSEN ZION; HE HATH DESIRED IT FOR HIS HABITATION.
God wants to dwell in Zion meaning in Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is the Holy City.

[Psalms 132:14] THIS IS MY REST FOR EVER: HERE WILL I DWELL; FOR I HAVE DESIRED IT.

[Psalms 132:15] I WILL ABUNDANTLY BLESS HER PROVISION: I WILL SATISFY HER POOR WITH BREAD.
HER PROVISION. Hebrew "Tsaidah". Those who live in Jerusalem will make their livelihood with ease (Amos Chacham). Jerusalem today can actually be quite expensive. Rents are high. Wages are low due to the proximity of a large Arab population prepared to work for less. Most people however somehow or other get by.  Those who live there usually manage to stay.
Brit-Am may have to move out because we cannot really afford the rent here. Nevertheless we know in advance that if we do leave we will not necessarily benefit from it even from the economic point of view. When someone has been in Jerusalem for a good while and then leaves you always want to come back.

[Psalms 132:16] I WILL ALSO CLOTHE HER PRIESTS WITH SALVATION: AND HER SAINTS SHALL SHOUT  ALOUD FOR JOY.
CLOTHE HER PRIESTS WITH SALVATION i.e. the priests who minister to the people will have the ability of giving advice and direction that will save people both in the physical realm and in the spiritual.

[Psalms 132:17] THERE WILL I MAKE THE HORN OF DAVID TO BUD: I HAVE ORDAINED A LAMP FOR  MINE ANOINTED.
THE HORN. In Hebrew "Keren". The horn represents power and exaltation. The future Messiah will grow powerful and reveal himself from Jerusalem.
A LAMP. From out of Jerusalem the future Messiah will find his pathway enlightened. He will know what he must do and how to do it.
Be aware of the "Jerusalem Syndrome". It is a known phenomenon that otherwise normal people arrive in Jerusalem and get wafted away in a mystical fairyland and start thinking they are the Messiah or Elijah or something like that. Though none of us are liable to delude ourselves to that degree we should be careful of even being wronlgy effected even in a small way.
MINE ANOINTED. In Hebrew "Meshichi" i.e. My Mashiach, my Messiah. The "ch" sound at the end of the word in some dialects is pronounced something like a "h" sound with a slight guttural emphasis.
David is the Annointed of God.

[Psalms 132:18] HIS ENEMIES WILL I CLOTHE WITH SHAME: BUT UPON HIMSELF SHALL HIS CROWN  FLOURISH.
The Messiah will have many enemies.  They will be confounded and ashamed.
The crown of the Messiah will develop and blossom like a flower. It will not happen at once.
Its beginnings may be quite modest but once it starts flourishing it will keep doing so at a quickening pace.
