Psalms 119-tet

To Hear a Talk based on the Text below:

(ca. 13 minutes)

TET
[Psalms 119:65] THOU HAST DEALT WELL WITH THY SERVANT, O LORD, ACCORDING UNTO THY  WORD.
This set of eight verses in Hebrew all  begin with the letter Tet" which is the equivalent of "T".  Four of the verses begin with the word "Tov" meaning "good" and one begins with "Toov" which is in effect the same as "Tov" with a slightly different pronunciation. Five of the eight verses thus start off with a word connoting "goodness".
These eight verses comprise the acknowledgement of someone who had sinned and was then afflicted. He understands that his affliction was punishment for his sin. Now he has repented and thanks God for accepting him back and teaching him the right way.
ACCORDING UNTO THY  WORD.   God promises in the Bible that they who go in the right path will be rewarded and will be conscious of Divine Providence in their lives.

[Psalms 119:66] TEACH ME GOOD JUDGMENT AND KNOWLEDGE: FOR I HAVE BELIEVED THY COMMANDMENTS.
FOR I HAVE BELIEVED. Hebrew "he-emanti" which also connotes "I have affirmed, upheld". We do what we can and ask God to help us go further.

[Psalms 119:67] BEFORE I WAS AFFLICTED I WENT ASTRAY: BUT NOW HAVE I KEPT THY WORD.
WENT ASTRAY. Hebrew "shogeg" which more correctly means "was mistaken".

[Psalms 119:68] THOU ART GOOD, AND DOEST GOOD; TEACH ME THY STATUTES.
You God are good and do good which therefore includes showing someone like myself also how to do good (Amos Chacham, Daat Mikra).

[Psalms 119:69] THE PROUD HAVE FORGED A LIE AGAINST ME: BUT I WILL KEEP THY PRECEPTS  WITH MY WHOLE HEART.
THE PROUD.  Hebrew "zaydim" more correctly (as translated by S.R. Hirsch) to be rendered as "wanton sinners".  Sinners tell lies about good people.  I just received a letter from a Conspiracy Freak telling horrible lies about the Jewish People. The person who sent the letter is almost certainly an evil person themself.

[Psalms 119:70] THEIR HEART IS AS FAT AS GREASE; BUT I DELIGHT IN THY LAW.
AS FAT.  Hebrew "Tapash" literally meaning "made stupid".  Their heart (the faculty of understanding) is encased with thick lard that makes them stupid and lacking in comprehension.  Through the Torah I receive revelation.

[Psalms 119:71] IT IS GOOD FOR ME THAT I HAVE BEEN AFFLICTED; THAT I MIGHT LEARN THY  STATUTES.

[Psalms 119:72] THE LAW OF THY MOUTH IS BETTER UNTO ME THAN THOUSANDS OF GOLD AND  SILVER.
