Psalms 127
A SONG OF DEGREES FOR SOLOMON
"FOR SOLOMON". Amos Chacham ("Daat Mikra" Commentary) tells us that different explanations have been given for this expression. Some say the Psalm was composed by Solomon. Alternately it means that it written for Solomon, or in his honor, or about him.

[Psalms 127:1] EXCEPT THE LORD BUILD THE HOUSE, THEY LABOUR IN VAIN THAT BUILD IT: EXCEPT THE LORD KEEP THE CITY, THE WATCHMAN WAKETH BUT IN VAIN.
The builiding of the Temple, the construction of Jerusalem, and everything connected with it would have been in vain if God had not wanted it. So too, our own lives and efforts will be worth nothing if God is not with us.
This analogy can also be extended to our family existence.
If God is not with us we will not succeed in establishing a family on solid lasting foundations.
We should endeavor to include recognition of God in our family life.
If you already have a family and just now are beginning to strenthen your association with God and with Biblical values, be careful. Do not try to force or pressure other family members to think as you do.  Nevertheless in a pleasant manner and by good example with positive input you may well be able to influence them. Make God your partner in these and all other projects of yours.

[Psalms 127:2] IT IS VAIN FOR YOU TO RISE UP EARLY, TO SIT UP LATE, TO EAT THE BREAD OF SORROWS: FOR SO HE GIVETH HIS BELOVED SLEEP.
Other verses in the Bible speak in favor of working hard and working late at night if necessary. Everything needs to be taken in its correct perspective.
It does happen that people who are confident, do what they must, and go with God often succeed with relatively little effort.
On the one hand,
It is good to work hard. Sometimes only through hard work can one succeed.
On the other hand,
Look after yourself. Eat properly, sleep well. Avoid stress. Do not over-exert yourself but keep going.
Be moderate but consistent and very often you will find that this is more than enough.
It happens that by trying too hard we sometimes make serious mistakes and would have been better off going more slowly.

[Psalms 127:3] LO, CHILDREN ARE AN HERITAGE OF THE LORD: AND THE FRUIT OF THE WOMB IS HIS REWARD.
Children are given you by the Almighty. They are what you have. Value them and invest in them. When you are gone that is what will remain.

[Psalms 127:4] AS ARROWS ARE IN THE HAND OF A MIGHTY MAN; SO ARE CHILDREN OF THE YOUTH.
Make hay while the sun shines.
Have children while you can, if you can.
This should be obvious but many of due to the worries of day-to-day existence put the question on a back burner. It would be better to put it before you and do something about it while you still may be able to do so.

[Psalms 127:5] HAPPY IS THE MAN THAT HATH HIS QUIVER FULL OF THEM: THEY SHALL NOT BE  ASHAMED, BUT THEY SHALL SPEAK WITH THE ENEMIES IN THE GATE.
"Children" in Hebrew can also mean "works", "effects", "result".  Do what you can. Do good things if you can. Think about what good things you can do. Think about it: What needs to be done and can you do anything about it.
