A SONG OF DEGREES
[Psalms 128:1] BLESSED IS EVERY ONE THAT FEARETH THE LORD; THAT WALKETH IN HIS WAYS.
Everyone that fears God and goes in the ways of the Almighty to the best of his ability as he understands them shall be blessed.
BLESSED. The Hebrew word translated here as "Blessed" is "Ashrei" which more correctly means "happy".
If one goes in the way of the Almighty one will find true happiness.
[Psalms 128:2] FOR THOU SHALT EAT THE LABOUR OF THINE HANDS: HAPPY SHALT THOU BE, AND IT SHALL BE WELL WITH THEE.
You will be blessed. You will be able to work and be enabled to do so. You will have work that you are able to do and that expresses yourself. You shall be remunerated and requited for your efforts. It shall go well with you and you shall be a source of well being for others. The results of your endeavors will be paid to you and you shall delight in them.
[Psalms 128:3] THY WIFE SHALL BE AS A FRUITFUL VINE BY THE SIDES OF THINE HOUSE: THY CHILDREN LIKE OLIVE PLANTS ROUND ABOUT THY TABLE.
Yor wife will be beside you, helping you in your house. The wife is the foundation of the house. You will be blessed with a wife who will help you build a house and your children will be around your table, close to you and attached to their home and to you. They will be like planted saplings of olive trees, each one will be a source of blessing in their own right and grow up to give forth fruit in their own right. The fruit that your children will bring forth will be good works and children of their own who will live on and give honor to their name which will be your honor.
[Psalms 128:4] BEHOLD, THAT THUS SHALL THE MAN BE BLESSED THAT FEARETH THE LORD.
This is how God bless those who do HIS will and who try and go in HIS paths. This is what we understand. You can talk about heaven and hell and spiritual satisfaction and reincarnation and all kinds of possibilities. All this might be true and we do believe that there is something beyond this physical existence. We are even conscious of it to a degree. Nevertheless a human being exists within the parameters of their physical existence. This is what we understand and this is what God has promised us. If we do good it will go well with us and if not with us at least with our children or those about us for whom we care.
Statistically it is true. Even in this world on the whole they who do good receive a blessing. God blesses us and looks after those who seek to do HIS will and go in the path HE shows us how to go in.
[Psalms 128:5] THE LORD SHALL BLESS THEE OUT OF ZION: AND THOU SHALT SEE THE GOOD OF JERUSALEM ALL THE DAYS OF THY LIFE.
Zion will be blessed. You shall see the deliverance of Israel. All they who fear God will participate in the rebuilding of Jerusalem. There are also matters concerning the Messianic Era and the Resurrection of the Dead. We believe in this and know that the Almighty will look after those who believe in HIM. We do not have to know the details but we should be aware that there is also life after death both in heaven and in this earth through a future resurrection.
[Psalms 128:6] YEA, THOU SHALT SEE THY CHILDREN'S CHILDREN, AND PEACE UPON ISRAEL.
You will see the children of your children.
PEACE. In Hebrew "Shalom" which connotes wholeness and well-being as well as lack of conflict.
