Psalms 119-19 Psalm 119-19
KOPH
This section is named after the letter Koph.
Three of the verses begin with a word based on the root "KRA" meaning "call" or "cry out". The English word "cry" is probably derived from the Hebrew "KRI"  or "KRA".
One of the verses begins with the word "koli" i.e. My voice. "KOL" in Hebrew is voice and the verse (119:149) begins " HEAR MY VOICE". This is where the English word "call" comes from. We thus have four out of the eight verses begin with a word denoting "crying out" or calling".   One other verse (119:147) also speaks of "Crying out" (CRIED) though the Hebrew word used here does not start with "K".

[Psalms 119:145] I CRIED WITH MY WHOLE HEART; HEAR ME, O LORD: I WILL KEEP THY  STATUTES.
He is asking God to hear him and help him. He will keep the laws.  He does not mean that he will keep the laws on condition that God hear him only he is prepared to do the will of the Almighty.

[Psalms 119:146] I CRIED UNTO THEE; SAVE ME, AND I SHALL KEEP THY TESTIMONIES.
We need the help of the Almighty.  Without this help concerning our well being and that of those dependent on us it will be difficult to keep the laws. This is a physical fact not a statement of condition.  They who do not have problems of health and wealth may well find it easier to do what the Law requires.

[Psalms 119:147] I PREVENTED THE DAWNING OF THE MORNING, AND CRIED: I HOPED IN THY  WORD.
I PREVENTED. Hebrew "Kidamati" i.e. I got up before.

[Psalms 119:148] MINE EYES PREVENT THE NIGHT WATCHES, THAT I MIGHT MEDITATE IN THY WORD.
Here too the Hebrew is similar to the previous verse. My eyes are open before the earliest watch of the night.

[Psalms 119:149] HEAR MY VOICE ACCORDING UNTO THY LOVINGKINDNESS: O LORD, QUICKEN  ME ACCORDING TO THY JUDGMENT.
QUICKEN  ME. Hebrew "chayaayni" i.e. give me life and vitality.

[Psalms 119:150] THEY DRAW NIGH THAT FOLLOW AFTER MISCHIEF: THEY ARE FAR FROM THY LAW.
MISCHIEF. Hebrew "zima" connotes sexual immorality. They who want illicit intercourse pursue it
And draw near unto it but in doing so they distance themselves from the Almighty.

[Psalms 119:151] THOU ART NEAR, O LORD; AND ALL THY COMMANDMENTS ARE TRUTH.
God of HIS nature is close unto us. His commandments are true. HE will stay close to us if we do not distance ourselves from HIM.

[Psalms 119:152] CONCERNING THY TESTIMONIES, I HAVE KNOWN OF OLD THAT THOU HAST  FOUNDED THEM FOR EVER.
OF OLD. Hebrew "Kedem" literally from before the beginning.  We have within us somewhere an instinctive inborn recognition of the Truth of the Bible. This was with us from the beginning. Within our souls we know that the Torah is true.
