(ca. 9 minutes)

ZAYIN
[Psalms 119:49] REMEMBER THE WORD UNTO THY SERVANT, UPON WHICH THOU HAST CAUSED ME  TO HOPE.
This set of eight verses in the Hebrew all begin with the letter "zayin" which is the equivalent of "z".
The word "zayin" itself in Hebrew connotes "arm", "weapon", "equip", "feed", and in "conjugate".  It is connected to the Hebrew "zoneh" meaning sexual immorality in general though strictly speaking its meaning is to depart from the norm in general, to sin.  The English word "sin" is derived from the same word-root.
Bcause the Almighty has called upon us to do right and made promises to us we have come to hope upon HIM. In principle it would be enough for us to do right because it is the right thing to do but God has made promises to us anyway.  We ask God to remember us.

[Psalms 119:50] THIS IS MY COMFORT IN MY AFFLICTION: FOR THY WORD HATH QUICKENED ME.
QUICKENED. Hebrew "Chiatani" from the root "Chaii" (sometimes pronounced close to "Haii") understandable as saying "kept me alive", "invigorated me".

[Psalms 119:51] THE PROUD HAVE HAD ME GREATLY IN DERISION: YET HAVE I NOT DECLINED FROM  THY LAW.
THE PROUD. Hebrew "zaydim" more correctly rendered as meaning "deliberate doers of evil", "the malicious".

[Psalms 119:52] I REMEMBERED THY JUDGMENTS OF OLD, O LORD; AND HAVE COMFORTED MYSELF.
I remember the times the Almighty helped me and others in the past and realize that this time as well HE will come through for me.

[Psalms 119:53] HORROR HATH TAKEN HOLD UPON ME BECAUSE OF THE WICKED THAT FORSAKE THY LAW.
David is shocked at the wicked. Evil is bad. This sounds like something superfluous to say since it is self-evident but we sometimes forget it.

[Psalms 119:54] THY STATUTES HAVE BEEN MY SONGS IN THE HOUSE OF MY PILGRIMAGE.
PILGRIMAGE. Hebrew "meguri" literally "my sojourning". The will of the Almighty should become our will and we should rejoice in it. We should not only do good but strive that things be good.

[Psalms 119:55] I HAVE REMEMBERED THY NAME, O LORD, IN THE NIGHT, AND HAVE KEPT THY  LAW.
I remembered at nighttime to learn and pray. In the dark hours both literally and figuratively I remained faithful.

[Psalms 119:56] THIS I HAD, BECAUSE I KEPT THY PRECEPTS.
I survived and did what had to be done because I sought out what the Almighty required of me.
